December 25th
Attarah and the guards had not seen the Kings for the rest of the day but it had given them time to prepare the decorations. They had taken the main room and removed all the furniture, setting up a giant Christmas tree and putting so many presents beneath it that it was fit to burst. A table had also been set up along the windows with an array of food for Attarah and Miranda. That night Attarah went to bed in excitement.
In the morning, Attarah was awoken by Jane who helped her to get dressed in a festive dress. It was red with a sleigh design and her hair was pulled up with fake flowers being weaved into it. She giggled happily, excited for the day.
Attarah walked along the halls in bubbly happiness before she found where she knew her mates would be. She did not knock for it was Christmas and she was overexcited. As a queen, the book nearly forbade her to knock anyway and she better begin practices. "Good morning" she didn't address the day as she entered, wishing for them to catch on. The three men were sat on couches talking with glasses of blood.
Attarah walked behind Caius, taking the glass and swirling the liquid content, inspecting it before returning it to his hand. None of them said a word as she made her way to the desk and glanced over the desk contents. Knowing what was there, Caius called her over. "Attarah my dear, what is this you are wearing?"
"you mean to tell me you forgot?"
"forgot what exactly gorgeous?" Caius asked it was unlike Kings, let alone vampire to forget anything.
"I expected Kings so old to remember what the day is. The birth of Christ is a very widely celebrated day" she informed and they snapped their gazes to look at her.
"it's Christmas?"
"it is" she announced and left with them quickly tailing.
"I dare say, brothers, our mate is shaping up to be destined a brilliant Queen." aro notices.
"I take it her book studies came in handy. She certainly appears a changed woman" Marcus remarks.
"Unlike the pair of you, I do not want a moulded mate, I want Attarah, she was perfect before the pair of you began to shape her into what you believe the model vampire queen to be" Caius argued.
"Caius, adjustments must be made, Attarah is to be Queen. We are all born normal Caius, as she often reminds us. We have adjusted as she shall. The Attarah you love is still there, she will always be there but she is evolving. Changes do not change the love someone has for a mate. Correcting her outer appearance to the public is not changing who she is as a person" Aro reasons as they continue into the decorated sitting room.
"When did you do all of this?" Aro asked with wide eyes, the room was decorated to the max yet somehow did not appear overdone.
"When you were working" Attarah smiled and she made her way over to him, her arms snaking around his waist and her fingers locking behind his back, in return he placed his hands on either side of her face with a smile. Pressing a kiss to her forehead they twisted so they faced the room, his arm remained around her shoulders and hers around his waist.
"right" Felix claps "let's make a tradition" the other guards stared at him wide-eyed, it had somehow not crossed his mind that Aro was present. Before any of the other Kings, the guards could act as they please but Aro was different.
"Felix" Jane whispered angrily.
"I apologies your majesty" Felix stumbled and stepped into line with the other guards. Attarah looked up at the anger on Aros's face and frowned.
"Do not fret Felix, as it is Christmas I am sure it can be excused. Don't you think Aro?" Attarah smirked and Aro frowned but didn't protest in any way. Attarah made her way over to Jane who smiled and accepted her in a gentle hug.
"for future reference, 'wouldn't you agree' is much more formal than 'don't you think'" the bubbly blonde guard informed in a hushed voice and Attarah nodded in appreciation.
"Thank you"
"When you become Queen you shall be appointed what we think of as advisors, that is what the Kings have established considering you do not yet know all the rules. You shall also have hand ladies, they are just friends in which you can confide. The Kings have one another yet you need your own. You shall have professional dressers also." Jane informed.
" And what of Miranda? "
"she is not a vampire, she was appointed part-time for you whilst you were human but a vampire should replace her as you become a vampire as you will be seen more regularly" Chelsea informed her.
"where shall Miranda go?"
"I have a place within the kitchens, I shall be fine." the human informed herself and Attarah frowned before nodding in acceptance.
"Come, let's not discuss such matters today, it is Christmas after all." Caius ushered. "You have many years before you have to think of such things"
--
Attarah, Jane, Chelsea and Heidi sat around together talking with giggles, the family had collectively decided to wait until after lunch to open presents. "You say I need hand ladies?"
"Indeed your majesty"
"How many exactly?"
"Three to four" Jane informed her and Attarah thought for a moment.
"Well, then I wish to have the three of you" the human informed them and they all stared at one another in shock. They had never before had a queen as such and to be asked by their future Queen to be hand ladies meant the world to them.
"Are you sure? You may wait until nearer the time to decide"
"I am near certain, there are no greater females than the three of you." Attarah beamed and the hugged collectively.
"Now I'm not sure that is entirely acceptable," Aro interjected as they pulled apart.
"Now Aro, do not be such a scrooge. Appreciate the glory of Christmas, my love. It truly is a magical time of year." Attarah smiled and pecked his cheek before following Felix to the tree.
"That's twice today brother." Caius teased.
"Perhaps she should be taught a lesson, she embarrasses me" Aro growled.
"Give into her brother, I feel she will have a very positive effect on you. Allow her to do so."Marcus informed, Caius and Marcus had enabled her to somewhat encourage them and It was for the better. They gave her power due to their immense love for her.
" No, I shall not bend the knee like the pair of you. She may be our one true love in this world but we are kings, she does not have the allowance to treat us like anything less."
"Not today Aro" Caius growled. He did not wish any harm to come to his dear one, not now or ever. He needed her happy and healthy for eternity.
"She shall not come to harm by my hand but I see no reason why she should not be put into place today, especially if she continues to humiliate me in this manner"
"she is not attempting to do so Aro, for the most part, she is teasing. She is merely adjusting to being the queen you wanted, you did not want a gentle queen and so she shall not be. I believe it is your fault she acts this way."
"Nevertheless, she is human and no human demands me without punishment."
"Human or not, she is your mate Aro" Caius hissed.
"she should think herself lucky, should she have not been my mate, I would've killed her by now"
"How dare you!" Marcus roared and the guards and Attarah snapped their heads up to stare at him with wide eyes, they had never before witness Marcus lose his temper quite so violently. He was infuriated and it was evident. Wishing to help, Attarah moved to stand but Caius flashed her a look and she came no closer. Why did perfect days have to be ruined by feuds?
"Attarah, library, now." Aro roared a demand and she halted for a moment and stared at the fury between the Kings. Jane and Felix knew not what to do, they had been instructed to protect their future queen no matter what yet, in the situation where the king does the harming. What is the protocol? "I said now!"
Without a single sound, Attarah made her way out of the room. She didn't let a tear break but fear flooded her, she had only wished to act as the queen they wanted. She followed every rule in the book, she'd studied them and nearly everything she said was scripted from her learning. How could she possibly have made such a terrible mistake? What had happened? Yet somehow she knew that it was Aros fault, and not her own that he felt so much anger within him.
Attarah made her way to the library and took a seat upon one of the many couches. She was shocked that the house even had a library but her lings wouldn't go anywhere that didn't have an abundance of books and a desk. As she sat, she thought. She knew that her mates wouldn't allow any harm to come to her even from one another.
When Aro eventually entered, anger was spread across his face, his lips tight with range and his eyes practically flashing with anger. "Do you understand how much you embarrass me?!"
She did not know whether the question was truly to be answered or not, did Aro even ask rhetorical questions? He was so straight forward that she was unsure.
"We were in front of only our family Aro and I didn't embarrass you, I did what you told me to do, what the book told me to do." she attempted, her voice never changing. She was proud of herself.
"I did not give you permission to speak Attarah! I have not finished! You embarrassed me! You are a human! You may be my mate but that doesn't give you rights above anyone else. And they are not my family! They are guards, they are here for a purpose and know their place which is more than I can say than about you!" he showed pure anger.
"what do you want from me, Aro?! Do you want me to leave? Do you want to be a lonely old king with nobody to love him? Do you want us to end? Do you retract your decision to love me? I know you're a king and I'm trying to be your queen! I am not like you! I have no way of knowing how to act, all I have is a dusty old book that you gave me! You! And now you want me to act differently. You took me from my home! I lost my family because of you! You changed me! My hair, my voice..my face! I have done nothing but change for you and I loved you anyway! All I have done is love you. All I have done is be what you wanted! And now you speak to me as though you have a created a monster! If you want me to leave. Just say it! "
