Chapter 1
Sara's POV
I hated going anywhere there were people, but I had to do this, I needed pads, woman
trouble lol.
I made my way to the toiletry aisles, my head bowed and my face almost fully covered with
my hoodie, as I unexpectedly bumped into that hard-as-rock chest.
"I _ I am so _ so sorry sir. I didn't see you there". I apologized, partially looking up, with zero
assurance that I'd be forgiven by the man.
"Are you fine"? He asked, concerned, with a baritone voice that almost startled me.
"I'm okay sir". I politely replied.
"Then watch where you are going". He scolded and walked away.
I was shocked and at the same time offended by the way he spoke to me because I thought
he was showing concern with the question he initially asked me. What a jerk, I thought.
I turned to take another look at him, but he seemed to have disappeared. I suddenly
remembered I had menstrual cramps. Oh! It hurts.
I walked briskly to the sanitary product section, but this time, more carefully so I don't bump
into someone else and picked out my favorite pad, Pink Roses.
Now, the next mission was to take it to the cashier to make payment, and that was the
hardest part because everyone would see what I was paying for. Whew!
So, because I was shy, I hid the sanitary pad I just picked in my hoodie, another shopper
saw me doing this, and thought I was stealing it, then gave me that (your secret is safe with
me) look. I tried to explain that I wasn't stealing but decided to ignore the shopper and
proceeded to the counter.
"You know it's not something to be ashamed of; you are a woman and this (pointing to my
pad) happens to every one of your genders".
I recognized that baritone voice, it was the man I bumped into earlier. He was also about to
make payments.
His words really offended me, and for the first time that night, I took a good look at him, and
wow, he was so handsome and tall.
He had strong jawlines and, oh, those eyes! They were hazel. He didn't need to be that
gorgeous, I thought. But all those qualities made me get even angrier.
"Everyone of your gender? I guess you meant to say every one of 'our gender' because you
sound like you do this every month."You know what? You sound nosy as hell, you sound just like Mrs. Brentwood, my annoying
and nosy neighbor. I already apologized for bumping into you, didn't I? So why are you trying
to bully me?
"Listen I know I may be a little shy...well maybe not so little, but hey, I'm not a pushover, so
respect yourself and get out of my face, sir!"
Those words rolled out of my mouth. It was like I was possessed, or under the influence of
some drug. Neither of which was the case. It was just my hormones I suppose.
I couldn't tell if the look on his face was either amusement or anger.
"Well, you seem to be having a bad day Miss, so I'll go now, enjoy the rest of your horrible
evening". He said with a smirk, took his shopping bag, and left.
"What a bully". I muttered. Made payments and left for home.
My house was just four blocks from the supermarket and eight blocks from the abandoned
park where I used to play as a kid.
It was an abandoned park, but to me, it was my safe haven. It was at that park where I first
met Puppy.
Puppy was a stray dog that became my friend after I lost my mom, and my dad remarried my
wicked stepmother.
"Aww! Puppy, today is not the day we hang out". I said bent over, groaning in pain by the
roadside.
My abdominal pain grew worse by the second, I kept grabbing my tummy, wishing the pain
away, but it only grew worse.
The pain I was feeling was unbelievable. I was still contemplating crawling back to the
supermarket to get a painkiller when I saw Puppy! He came to me wagging his tail, and
sniffing me.
Puppy had something in his mouth, I took it and it was a container of pain relief medicine.
"Where did you get this Puppy"? I asked as I took the medicine container from his mouth,
looking around for clues. He only kept wagging its tail and I didn't see anyone else.
Puppy always did amazing things like playing catch, dancing, and raising his paws but never
had he read my mind.
I quickly took one of the pills and a few seconds later I was feeling a bit better. I walked
Puppy back to the park and I went home.
Kyle's POV
As soon as I saw that cute slender figure, hiding behind her hoodie, I knew she was trouble.
I am not the type to get easily fascinated by anything or anyone, but that girl got me good!...
Oh, Kyle, what are you doing? She's a nobody…
"Sir, you have a call from the mayor". Saul's voice jerked me from my deep thoughts back to
reality. I took the phone from him and waved him to leave.
"Good evening Your Excellency, I am sorry I haven't gotten back to you on the matter we
discussed... I".
"I have another assignment for you Commander, it's a matter of State security". The mayor
interrupted me.
"Claws are at it again. They have attacked five members of the City Council: one dead and
the other four are at the city hospital. They are a major threat to the city and the State as we
speak.
"This is a matter of urgency and I am giving you a direct order to take care of this problem by
any means necessary".
The mayor added.
"I'll do the needful Your Excellency. You can count on me and my men". I assured him.
"Your city counts on you, and Kyle, thank you for your service". The mayor said and ended
the call.
After the call from the mayor, my mind went back to that girl. I wanted to see her again. I
needed to know who or what she was, but now wasn't the time to start obsessing over a
nerdy-looking girl.
There was an urgent situation on ground that needed my immediate
attention.
