Sara's POV
Puppy's action that night still baffled me. I knew the dog was smart and affectionate towards
me, but I never saw the painkiller part coming.
How did he get it? How did he know I needed it? Where did he find it? All these questions
kept running through my mind, till I fell asleep.
"Sara, wake up! There's news". Mona yelled excitedly as she jumped on my bed.
I opened my eyes, still half asleep, and saw Mona, my roommate looking so happy. I
grabbed my glasses to see more clearly and waited for the big news. She flashed her phone
at my face. I still didn't get it, so I asked.
"What is it, Mona? It's too early". I said grumpily.
"Guess". Mona said."You are rich now"? I asked sarcastically.
"I wish that was it, but no. Guess again". Mona continued.
"Mona please, I am feeling tired right now. Just tell me what it is so I can go back to sleep!" I
yelled.
"Okay, fine I'll tell you, only because you asked nicely. Mona said quirkily and continued.
"I just read on the school news that Mr. Kyle Quincy is going to be giving a speech at our
graduation next week, yay!"
Mona was jumping so excitedly like a kid who had been promised a trip to Disneyland and I
just didn't understand why.
"Umm, who is Kyle Quincy"? I asked genuinely unaware of who that was.
"Huh? You are kidding, right? You don't know who Kyle Quincy is?" Mona looked at me in
utter disbelief.
"He has been a great benefactor to our university. He built the new Security Department and
equipped it with state-of-the-art facilities. Do you know who he is now"?
Mona asked with the hope that I'd know who Kyle Quincy was.
"Nope, doesn't ring a bell. I'm dying of pain here, so, shut up and don't make me murder
you". I groaned in pain softly.
The pain was back, so I turned to lie flat on my tummy because that was the best position for
me at that moment. The second day of my period is usually the worst. I could feel all my
internal organs screaming for help.
I became pressed and tried to get up from my bed to use the bathroom, but I fell. Mona
quickly helped me up.
"Sorry love, but are you okay"? She asked, concerned.
"I don't think I can go to the graduation photoshoot today, let's make it tomorrow please, my
cramps are getting worse". I said.
"Nonsense, photo shoots can wait, who needs a photo shoot anyway? Besides, we can
always take pictures with our phones, so don't worry your little head.
"But, you know, they say a good d**k can take care of all these problems". Mona joked.
"I don't understand what you mean". I said.
To give me a visual explanation, she playfully molded her left hand into a fist while she used
her right-hand index finger to give a thrusting motion.
"Eww, you dirty pig. Get out of my room". I said with a frown.
"But it's true. Before I started doing it, my cramps were unbearable, I'd almost die every
month...but when I started doing it, girl. It became less unbearable ha-ha ha-ha".
She laughed knowing fully well, that I wouldn't take her silly advice. I had never heard that
sex solved menstrual cramps before, moreover, I didn't have a boyfriend and never felt a
need for one.
I suddenly remembered Puppy and what he did last night, so I decided to share it with Mona.
"Mona, something strange happened last night. After you went to see Brian, I went to the
supermarket to get my menstrual pads...". I paused.
"Yes? Go on". Mona urged, looking concerned.
I wanted to tell her about the man I bumped into, and how I stood up for myself, but I didn't
even know how to begin. So, I skipped all of that and only told her about Puppy bringing me
painkillers.
"How's that even possible? Puppy is just a dog. Right"? Mona asked, worried I might be
seeing things and maybe gradually going insane.
She continued.
"I feel you spend too much time with that dog that you now see him as human".
"Shut up Mona, I knew you wouldn't believe me". I pushed her off my bed with my feet and
she fell to the floor, laughing hysterically.
"Okay, let's say you didn't dream this, and it happened, there are questions we need
answers to.
"Number one: where did he get the medicine from? Two: how did he know you needed the
medicine; I mean he's just a dog. Three: how did he locate you"? Mona asked.
"Wait... That's true!" I exclaimed.
I suddenly realized Mona was right. I didn't go to the park and Puppy found me. How did that
even happen?
"Mona, I think something strange is happening to me, you see, I stood up for myself
yesterday; there was this man, he was rude to me and I told him to get lost.
"Something of sort had never happened before, you know I'm very shy and really timid
around people, but I stood up to a total stranger, and it felt really good". I said with a smile.
"Maybe it was your hormones, that thing does crazy things to women. I remember yelling at
my mom one time during my period. I yelled so loudly that afterward I lost my voice, then my
car keys, and my debit card, I even lost my phone, because my mom took everything from
me for one whole week! But that's not the case here."The fact that you have always been very quiet and never been heard talking back at
anyone, well except for me, and now you found your voice, just yesterday. That’s a great
development. I'm proud of you girl.
"And what did you mean by 'I'm always shy and timid around people', you liar, you have
always been mean to me, never timid around me". She said with a fake frown.
That got me laughing because Mona knew I loved her and I wasn't mean to her, she was just
too goofy, never serious and she knew I was quite the opposite of that.
"How's the tummy, still hurting? Or should I make you some mint tea"? Mona asked.
"No need for that, I feel better now, thanks babe. You have been my real family since my
mom died. You and Puppy".
"No, just me, Puppy is a homeless dog and not family". Mona said quirkily.
"Puppy has been my friend for over fifteen years. My stepmother always warned me never to
bring him home, that he had ticks, and he was sickly and could infect us with diseases.
"So, I started playing with him only at the park. You know he can play Catch? He's very
smart like that. He also... Wait, are you snoring"? I woke Mona up from her pretend sleep.
"I'm drying up just listening to you. I see why I'm your only friend, you need some spice in
your life. Now, get up, go take a shower, and get dressed, we are going out". Mona
commanded me.
"No, please I don't want to go anywhere today". I pleaded.
"When do you ever go anywhere? You need to really go out, this house is so f*****g
depressing, you need to feel the breeze on your face, you need to meet someone". She said
looking all serious.
"But I have you and Pup, what more do I need"? I was trying to convince her.
"You are twenty-three and you are still a virgin, that's not good enough. I Mona, your fairy
godmother will match you with someone today, or tonight... Whichever works". Mona started
to drag me off the bed.
"Fairy godmother". I called sweetly to Mona.
"Yes? Cinderella". She responded blinking rapidly like a doll.
"Kiss my ass". I said hissing.
"Gladly". She said, dragging me off the bed.
