The bending didn’t feel like falling. It felt like being unfolded. Light stretched into impossible angles, colors she didn’t have names for sliding over one another like sheets of glass. Anna clutched Lexus’s hand as the device in his palm thrummed harder, vibrating up her arm and into her chest. For a terrifying moment she felt transparent—like the universe could see straight through her and decide she didn’t belong anywhere. Then— Ground. Solid. Warm. Air rushed into her lungs, sharp and clean, tinged with something metallic and electric. The light collapsed inward, snapping back into a single point before vanishing entirely.
