Jane is the most beautiful she-wolf alive. She is 5’3 in height with an hourglass figure. Long super silky dark brown hair which reaches her thighs. She has big almond-shaped sea-green eyes. It is said that her eyes are so intoxicating that no one can look into them for longer than a few seconds. Moon Goddess has blessed her in every way.
She’s 17 but unmarked because she doesn’t want to be and being the daughter of one of the most powerful wolves no one including the Alpha can force her into the marking and engagement.
The Green Valley pack is an ancient respected pack. Its leaders are the descendants of the royal family of werewolves and so they are respected everywhere.
But many years ago something happened that made them make some strange rules. In Green Valley pack no one is allowed to be with their fated mate. Every wolf after their first shift is supposed to choose a mate within the pack or is engaged to another pack for alliances.
Finding one’s true mate is really difficult nowadays, almost nonexistent so not many people have a problem with this rule.
My friends arrive at my home in the afternoon and we all start working on our assignment. It takes not much time because Ray, Amelia and I have gathered all the information we needed for it.
Jo has done nothing regarding the assignment. She is not a good student because she never tries hard. She’s lucky to pass the exam every time.
After the assignment, while eating snacks and watching Netflix, our conversation shifts to the relationships of our friends.
After graduation, Ray and Amelia will shift with their mates and live with them for all their life. And none of them seem happy about it. Sometimes I feel really bad for them. You shouldn’t be with someone you don’t love.
Well, not that I believe in love. I am a person who gets impressed more by people’s looks and personality and their mates lack both of it and they’re not even rich. I know it sounds materialistic but you got to occupy yourself with something if you don’t love the person.
Almost everyone in my class has a crush on someone except for me and it makes me wonder whether something is wrong with me. But it’s not that I don’t like people, it’s the fact that I have a perfect image of the person I want to be with.
All the qualities that I want in my mate are impossible to get in a person. I want to be with someone who is 6’2 tall—well I’m just 5’3 but imagination hurts no one—is very good-looking, chiseled face, expressive eyes, rich and obviously an Alpha. I don’t want to be with someone less than that.
It sounds really materialistic and obnoxious but we all want something special in our other halves. My friends also had some dreams about their mates but they were shattered because they had to be marked after their first shift at 16.
I’m 17 and I’ve not shifted yet, well it's considered normal for our bloodline but it is so depleted and changed now that some members are actually concerned for me. What if I never shift? Will I remain weak forever because I’m not even trained with other wolves or will I become an outcast? Let the future decide but I’m sure if I don’t shift on my 18th birthday, I’m in a lot of problem.
We finished our assignment and after almost two hours of gossiping our conversation shifts to the upcoming Claiming ceremony. In this ceremony all single adult wolves who haven’t found their mate claim one for themselves.
My friends being marked are excited for no reason or maybe it’s because this time our pack will host the ceremony and wolves from all over the world will come. The ceremony is held every 4 years and all the packs attend.
This time it is going to be a huge affair cause a lot of Alphas and Betas are single and will be looking for mates and alliances.
After putting the plates on the table I turn to the hall and ask everyone to come for dinner.
Mance and his family are here on a family dinner. I really like his Mom and Dad, they're very cool and friendly but Mance...
He is the most annoying, irritating person I’ve ever met in my life. I don’t know what makes him think I’ll end up with him but he’s always possessive around me which I hate the most.
Sometimes he behaves as if he has some kind of rights over me and treats me so, pissing me off to a next level.
He sits next to me ahhh! “Have you finished your assignment?” he asks as if he really cares about studies. Yes, I have. “I’m glad it's going to be over soon, we’re gonna graduate, no more high school.” He is so enthusiastic as if the world is waiting to embrace him the moment he leaves high school.
Mance is the typical macho guy with an ego bigger than him, he thinks he’s always right and super intelligent (his grades say the opposite though). I tolerate him because of our family relation. I still can’t forget how much jealous he was seeing me talk to a guy in our class. I just loved the look on his face and whenever he gets too annoying I do the same thing to him.
Aww! You two look so good together, says Mrs. Summer, Mance’s mother. She’s adamant on marrying us but I’m sure my parents hate the idea. “They do look like they’re siblings, many people misunderstood them for being siblings,” answers Mom.
I hardly control my laughter because no one thinks we’re siblings, we’re definitely poles apart. But Mom just wants to shut the topic before it's even brought up.
Finally, the dinner is over and I can go to my room. Our parents start talking about the upcoming Claiming ceremony and that the Blood Moon pack will be attending it. As the name indicates it is the most dangerous, powerful, wealthiest, and ruthless pack in the world. Their Alpha is 24 and unmated so he’ll be looking for a mate.
Our pack had good ties with Blood Moon in the past but things have changed especially in the leadership of the present Alpha’s father and grandfather.
They were powerful and wealthy maybe from the beginning of times but they wanted to be the most powerful one, the one that will rule all other packs. And they’ve succeeded so far. All the packs are either under them or their allies.
No one dares to stand against them. Because of their power-hungry nature and the fact that they achieved most of their power because of a member of our pack, our alliance became weak.
Our pack is descended from royals and in every 100 years a Rare One was born into royals. The striking features about the wolf were sea-green eyes and pure white fur.
The Rare One was supposed to have supernatural powers like healing others, controlling the elements i.e. water, fire, air and earth, a magical shield that can protect a whole pack of hundreds of wolves from supernatural power of other creatures like vampires and witches and obviously everyone was supposed to submit to them because of their super powerful Alpha aura.
That’s the reason everyone in our family has powerful Alpha aura. Most of the Rare Ones were males and so our pack became powerful and respected in past. After the death of the last male Rare One there was none born for almost 300 years.
Then after 300 years a Rare One was born. This time it was a girl—Catherine White—the most beautiful she-wolf ever born, she is said to be one of the most powerful Rare Ones too. On her 16th birthday it was discovered that she is the fated mate of the then Blood Moon’s Alpha and had to go with him.
A lot of pack members especially the elders protested but no one had the guts to oppose Blood Moon directly. Their union brought more power to Blood Moon and hence made it invincible.
Since then no Rare One was born, maybe because the bloodline got impure due to interclan marriages. The last Rare One, Catherine White—then Catherine Black after her marriage—was born 500 years ago.
So no one is happy for the Blood Moon coming to our territory but no one can stop them because it will cause a lot of trouble for our pack and also for our allies.
Some elders think that Moon Goddess has stopped blessing us with the Rare Ones because Catherine chose to go with Blood Moon Alpha and used her powers for extending theirs.
Her crime was choosing her fated mate over her pack and some 500 years ago our pack decided to ban fated mate unions.
And since then our pack has lost a lot of power and respect but no one seems to link it to the fact that maybe Moon Goddess is angry with us because we rejected one of her most precious blessings.
It’s been many decades since anyone has found a fated mate in our pack, fated mates have become nonexistent in Green Valley Pack.
That’s why mates are chosen by the pack leadership for forming alliances, by parents strengthening relations or by wolves themselves in the Claiming.
Dad and Mr. Summers, who is a Gamma, discuss the security plan for the Claiming and how much men they will need for border patrolling to avoid any unpleasant event.
As some of the most important wolves will be here, it is a great responsibility to safely organize the ceremony. So Dad will be working nonstop for the next 5 weeks. I hate it when Dad has to do all the work and Uncle James just sits there and gives his Alpha speech. Dad needs to take care of his health. The whole pack depends on him.
Our pack is nothing without Dad and won’t even survive a day without him, with such an incompetent Alpha.
