Going To School
Jane’s POV “Sweetheart, you’re gonna be late for school. It’s already 7:00 a.m., get up!” my mother calls from downstairs. I hate nothing more than Monday mornings. Everyone does—back to school, seeing again the faces you don’t really like but life demands you to endure them (gosh). After getting up, washing, and changing, here I am, sitting at the table ready for breakfast. My little brothers talk nonstop. Ahhh! They’re super irritating. Why are all younger siblings like that? As I’m not a morning person, I just hate every living thing in the morning—or at least for an hour after I wake up. Maybe nothing is wrong with my little bros, it’s just me. But I really don’t wanna listen about how one of my brothers scored so well in his not-so-important test and how everyone was impressed with his “genius,” and the other one being a spoiled brat, nagging and throwing tantrums. Geez! I wish I could escape to some faraway land. Finally, breakfast is over and we’re on our way to school. After dropping off my brothers, my mother turns left to drop me. We live in a beautiful green valley. It’s surrounded by sky-high mountains and lush green fertile fields, with amazing pleasant weather and breathtaking scenery. Our valley is one of the most famous tourist destinations. The weather today is really good. After a little pour last night, the mountains seem relaxed and kinda neat and tidy—which is so satisfying to look at, especially the tallest one. It’s completely white in winter and always half-covered in snow during summer. Everything in this valley looks otherworldly beautiful—even the inhabitants. We belong to the Green Valley Pack, named after our beautiful valley. We’re one of the oldest and most respected packs in the world, which was once very powerful but, due to poor leadership and some terrible decisions made by our ancestors, has lost its power and throne. Our wolves are considered the most attractive among all the werewolf population—and inside info: some of them are super mean and bad, especially the ones in my school. At last, we reached the school. “Try to be open to people and make some new friends,” says Mom. Okay, Mom. The most ancient and repetitive dialogue of my life. I’m an ambivert with just three friends, and nowadays, kids my age have a lot of friends, which makes my parents wonder if I have some sort of social anxiety. Well, I am uncomfortable in social situations and prefer to be left alone. “There you are, I’ve been looking for you everywhere!” I turn after closing my locker. My friend Ray is standing with a bunch of books in her hand. She is an intelligent student, one of my toughest competitors in school—but my bestest friend. I can’t even imagine my life without her. She’s also 17, but a few months older than me. Ray is also an ambivert and straightforward person. Of a petite stature, she’s 5 feet tall with long black hair. She doesn’t have a single striking feature but overall appears attractive. “Did you hear about the new Lit teacher?” Of course I didn’t. “Nope, tell me.” “Well, first of all, he’s younger than the last one and appears kinda hostile.” I roll my eyes. “In his first class, he scolded and insulted some of our juniors terribly. Everyone is saying he’s vicious.” Yes, as if our juniors are angels, I answered. Everyone hates their class. It’s no wonder they get scolded a lot. “The teacher belongs to the small neighboring Great Falls Pack,” Ray added, “but carries himself with air.” Well, there’s nothing great about that pack. They’re famous for their two-faced personalities. We enter the classroom and there is Mance—my family friend and my enemy. I really hate him, especially the way he acts possessive about me. Sometimes I wonder why my parents even befriended his. “Hey Angel, why didn’t you come to dinner?” Ugh, I hate that name he calls me—or maybe I just hate him calling me anything at all. “I was working on the Geography project,” I answered, hoping he’d shut up and leave—but he doesn’t seem to get the hint. So, he starts narrating everything that happened at dinner and boasts about his barbecue skills. God, I’m fed up with this crap. Please someone make him shut up. Door opens. The teacher enters and everyone takes their seats. The class was super boring and I slept through it—figuratively—with my eyes open. I sit in the café with Ray and we’re shortly joined by Jo and Amelia. They’re both 5’1" tall. Jo is brown-colored with amazing skin every girl would die for, and short curly hair. She is attractive, but the most attractive thing about her is her skin. Amelia is super cute—light-skinned with medium-length silky black hair. With all her physical beauty, she also has a heart of gold: an amazingly caring and loving person you’ll never find anywhere else. Ray and Amelia are marked and engaged. I don’t think their fiancés are good enough for them. Honestly speaking, if it weren’t for our stupid tradition of marking and engagement as soon as you have your first shift, they would’ve found someone better. But fated mates are discouraged in our pack. The strangest thing you’ll ever hear about werewolves. School is finally over and we’ve got a group assignment. Thankfully, my friends are my project partners. “Let’s work on it tomorrow,” says Ray. “Tomorrow?” I hate working on weekends, but I guess I’ll have to. “Okay, see you then,” I say, and leave after saying bye. When I reach home, my parents are already present and discussing something. I greet them and go directly to my room to change. “Dinner is served, sis! Come down!” shouts Cole, my brother, with all his capacity. Sometimes I wonder whether I live in a zoo or a house. “Coming,” I answer while going down the stairs. Mama has cooked lasagna, which I love more than anything else. We have our usual chat about how everyone’s day went, and my brothers Cole and Will start fighting and nagging again. Dad seems really exhausted but still spends time with us, talks to us, kisses us goodnight, and goes to his office for some work. Dad is the Beta of our pack and has to work a lot—sometimes late into the night. He is literally responsible for the whole pack, everything that happens in it, and everyone who lives here. Dad is a powerful wolf—6’2", muscular, dark-skinned—with an aura more powerful than all the Alphas we’ve met so far. The Alpha of our pack, James, is Dad’s cousin. He was made Alpha only because he’s older than Dad. Everyone in our family are stronger wolves than other pack members. Maybe it has something to do with our bloodline. After dinner is done, I help Mama with the dishes. My mother is very beautiful. I’ve inherited my looks from her—especially my figure and hair—but I got my eyes from my father, which I’m proud of because they are damn beautiful. Mama is originally from Diamond Falls Pack and was married to Dad in a pack alliance. But she has gracefully adapted to our pack as if she was born here, admired and loved by everyone. When the dishes are done, Mama gets me a cup of hot chocolate and I go to my room to work on my assignment. After preparing the materials, I immediately doze off. I am tired as hell.
