Unexpected Met

The bitter taste of betrayal lingers on my lips, a constant reminder of the heartache that has become reality. My once promising future is now falling apart, torn apart by the lies of those closest to me. As I gripped my suitcase tightly, the weight of my belongings felt heavier than ever. Each item inside holds a memory, a part of the life I once knew - a life that now feels like nothing more than a cruel illusion. I had given him everything - my love, my trust, my heart and soul. Yet, he has repaid me with lies and betrayal, leaving me broken and alone. How could I have been so blind? How could I not see the truth hiding behind his charming face? However, there was no time for self-pity now. With each passing moment, the reality of my situation grew more dire. My landlord, oblivious to the turmoil raging within me, had thrown me out onto the streets, a victim of my ex-fiancé's deception. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my trembling hands as I scanned the deserted street in front of me. There were no familiar faces, no friendly voices offering comfort or solace. Just empty buildings and desolate streets, stretched out before me like a barren desert. I had nowhere to go, nothing to turn to. The world felt like a cold and unforgiving place, a harsh reminder of the loneliness that now engulfed me. Yet, even in the depths of despair, a glimmer of resistance rose within me. I refused to be defeated by the cruelty of fate. I may be alone, but I am not helpless. I will find a way to rise above this adversity, to carve a new path for myself, no matter how daunting the journey may be. I've lived worse than this and I can survive. When my parents died, my entire inheritance was taken away by my uncle and aunt, to being abused in an orphanage, to almost being sold as a s*x slave on the black market. These were just small pebbles. Not knowing where to go, I decided to go to the motel where I used to work until the morning after my shift at the restaurant ended. Although I had resigned three days ago, I was confident that Julia, the manager of the motel, would accept me back. "Hi, Julia," I greeted Julia, who was sitting at the guest waiting table. "Oh, Aurel, why are you here again? Isn't today your wedding day? Don't tell me you want to spend your first night in a small motel like this," Marina asked, raising one eyebrow. Julia was a friendly person, but the look on her face was one of displeasure at my arrival. "It's a long story, I'll tell you later. But, can I come back to work here? I won't ask for a salary, I just want that empty back room as a place to live." Julia grinned, then sneered at me. "Aren't you the wife of a neurologist, why would you want to work here again and ask for a place to stay?" "Just for a while. Once I receive a salary at the restaurant and can rent an apartment, I'll leave. Do me a favor just this once." "After that insult from your husband, do you think I'd still accept you here?" My forehead wrinkled at Julia's words. "What do you mean?" "No need to pretend you don't know. Your doctor husband haughtily told me that I didn't belong at your wedding when I came to your blessing. Now, you come and ask me for a favor?" "Look, I'm not married to that jerk. He married Jessica, not me." Julia's eyes widened as she said, "No way, wasn't Jessica your friend when you were a kid." I nodded, then told her everything that happened, from me catching Kyle and Jessica making love to me being kicked out by the landlord. Only my and Alexander's wedding I missed. "In that case, you can stay in that room for a while. Unfortunately, I can't hire you anymore because since yesterday there has been a new employee replacing you," It was a decision made by Julia out of pity for me. “That's okay, I really appreciate it, Julia.” *.*.*. Today I have to start working again at the restaurant. Being broken up with and betrayed is no reason for me to be lazy and shut myself away. I need money, the more the better. I'm going to get another job soon and work from morning to morning so I can get rich quick and make that jerk regret hurting me. Before my dream came true, I only wished for one thing, peace of mind during my shift at the restaurant. However, the moment I stepped into the restaurant through the back door that was only accessed by workers, I could already hear the laughter of my coworkers. They must have been waiting for the moment to attack me again. "Aurel, what's up with your neurosurgeon? He finally realized that your brain is empty, huh?" one of them scoffed sarcastically. I remained silent, trying hard to contain my anger. But the insults continued to haunt me every step. "Poor Aurel, another failure to find a husband. Maybe you should try looking in the trash, who knows if anyone wants one," another teased, greeted with painful laughter. I'd love to fight back, but I don't have the strength to do so. I just want to work in peace and not cause any trouble. Money, yes, all for money. The bell rang to signal that there were orders to be delivered. I quickly made my way to the table where the orders were to be delivered. As I lifted the tray containing a bottle of wine and two glasses for delivery to table ten, I felt tense. But I tried to stay focused, ignoring the taunts that kept coming from my co-workers. However, when I arrived at the table, my world came crashing down. In front of me were Kyle and Jessica. My heart was racing, and I tried hard to stay calm. However, fate had other say. The tray I was carrying suddenly fell over, hitting the floor hard. A bottle of wine and two glasses shattered, leaving an embarrassing trail on the floor. All eyes immediately fell on me. I felt immersed in deep shame. But Jessica, she didn't care about me. She stood up, her dress soaked with wine splashes, and her eyes filled with anger. "What are you doing, i***t?!" she exclaimed, her voice piercing my heart even deeper. "I'm sorry, Jessica. It was an accident," I said in a shaky voice, trying to explain. "Accident? You think that's going to bring back my wine-soaked dress?" She said in a sarcastic tone, leaving me even more devastated. The customers around began to whisper, adding pressure to my already shattered self. "I'm sorry, I'm really sorry," I said with teary eyes, trying to hold back the tears. But the insults didn't stop there. Kyle joined in, adding more hurt to my already wounded heart. "Maybe it's better if you find a job more suited to your abilities, like cleaning toilets," Kyle chided in a condescending tone. I could only stand there, feeling helpless. Their insults pierced my heart deeper than the broken glass on the floor. I just wished I could disappear and forget all about it. "Honey, we shouldn't eat at this restaurant. I thought it was a classy and luxurious restaurant, but it turns out they employ women like her. I lost my appetite," Jessica said, folding her arms across her chest haughtily. I looked at Kyle sharply, hoping that there was some remnant of his feelings for me in his eyes. However, there was only a look of disgust directed at me in the man's eyes. It made me smile bitterly. That jerk, I wanted to claw his damn face so badly! Mr. Theodore, the on-duty manager on that shift, came straight to me. He immediately bowed to Jessica and Kyle. "I apologize for the negligence of my staff, Mister and Miss." "It's good that you came, Mr. Manager. I don't know where you get incompetent waitress like this foolish woman. You see my dress, wet with wine. It's an expensive dress that even a month's salary can't buy." "I'm sorry ma'am, as an apology, I will arrange a special VIP room for you," Mr. Theodore said. Kyle stepped in to protect his wife. "You think we can't afford the VIP room? We can afford it if we want to. But what's the point of a VIP room when your staff are as useless as they are?" "Honey, we've wasted enough time here, we'd better go to a restaurant that has more class and knows how to serve well. I don't want to come to this shitty restaurant again" I grinned at the couple's words. It's crazy that I didn't realize that they were so good together, both shameless. Not wanting to lose the loyalty of her customers, he kept trying to persuade, "Sir, Madam, don't be like this! Stay here, I will serve you myself. Please come with me to the VIP room, come on, sir, madam. I am not disappointing you anymore. I will also pay for your laundry. Please, come with me." Jessica and Kyle looked at each other for a while. Then Jessica said, "Well, darling, it might not hurt if we try to see if their waiter can satisfy us or not." Kyle nodded slowly. "Yeah, you're right, honey. Let's at least give them one last chance." I, who couldn't stand watching them, blurted out in annoyance, "Just say that you guys are just taking advantage of the situation because you want to enjoy the VIP room for free." "Aurel, don't be a jerk to the customers of this restaurant! Hurry to the back and wait for me in my room!" hissed Mr. Theodore, not wanting to voice his anger at the customers. Even though I had already walked away from the place, I could still hear Kyle saying, "If I were you, I would fire a brazen waitress like her." Brazen waitress? Me? Isn't he the fat bastard who used me for his own benefit? After waiting for a few minutes, Mr. Theodore finally arrived. It was obvious that the grumpy man's face was worse than usual. He scrunched up his waist and glared at me. "From now on you're fired! Do you know what you've done? This restaurant almost lost customers. You're useless!" One eyebrow went up. "And the wine you dropped was a twenty-year-old wine. One bottle costs more than your salary for one year. And of course you'll have to replace it plus the cost of the VIP room used by the customer will be charged to you." "But, sir, I really didn't drop the wine on purpose. I think I tripped over my foot and fell." I made my excuses, though I had to swallow my pride because I really needed a job right now. And with my savings already depleted, there was no way I could afford the compensation for a bottle of wine and a very expensive VIP room charge. After thinking for a moment, I began to remember that before the tray I was holding fell, my foot tripped. And the only person who could have done it was Jessica who was closest to me. "No need to make excuses. I don't want to know, you have to pay for the wine you broke and the VIP room charge by tomorrow night. If not, then you will have to deal with the police." "Sir, if I get fired, how can I pay the compensation? Give me some leniency, sir. I'll pay in installments every month from my payroll deduction." I tried to persuade Mr. Theodore that he might give me a chance. Mr. Theodore approached me with narrowed eyes while licking his lips with his tongue. My eyes widened as he stroked my shoulder. "Actually I can forget what happened earlier, how about spending one beautiful night with me. I think the beauty of your face and the beauty of your body are worth that bottle of wine," he said with eyes filled with desire for me. I immediately backed away from Mr. Theodore while slamming his hands on my shoulders. I was really creeped out and sickened by his words. "I'm sorry, sir, but I can charge you with workplace harassment." Mr. Theodore chuckled at my words. "What a stupid woman! You obviously don't have any evidence to report me. Well, I'll see you tomorrow, either at the hotel or the police station." She smiled a wide, triumphant smile. "Now, get out of here!" With the rest of my pride, I left the restaurant that was my only source of livelihood. My steps were slow because my body was so weak from despair. No matter how hard I tried to brace myself, there was always a reason for me to fall. My steps stopped at a bridge. I held on tightly to the metal bridge while staring at the moon reflected in the dark river. However, I turned my head as soon as I heard a car stop right behind me. The man, Alexander Moriarty, stood tall with both hands stuffed in his pants pockets. "Good evening, my bride. I finally found you. You missed our hot first night."
