Whispers of the Ocean

Whispers of the Ocean :-
The waves crashed gently against the shore, their rhythmic melody blending with the soft hum of the evening breeze. Elena Carter pulled her shawl tighter around her shoulders as she walked along the secluded beach, the fading sunlight painting the sky in hues of pink and gold. This little coastal town had been her refuge for the past six months, a place to heal from the scars of a love that had once felt unbreakable.
She hadn't expected to meet anyone here. She had come for solitude, for the peace that only the ocean could offer. But life had a way of surprising her.
As she reached the old wooden pier, she noticed him again—Caleb Hart. He stood near the edge, his hands tucked into the pockets of his jacket, gazing at the horizon like a man searching for something he had lost. He had moved into the small cottage next to hers a month ago, and since then, they had exchanged little more than polite nods and fleeting glances.
Tonight, however, something felt different. Maybe it was the way the wind carried his scent of sea salt and pine toward her, or the way his eyes, deep and unreadable, met hers when he turned.
“You always walk alone,” Caleb said, his voice smooth, tinged with curiosity.
Elena hesitated before answering. “I like the quiet.”
He nodded, stepping closer. “Me too.”
Silence stretched between them, comfortable yet charged. The waves whispered secrets to the shore as if urging them closer.
“You’re not from here,” he finally said, a small smile playing on his lips.
“No,” she admitted. “And neither are you.”
A chuckle escaped him. “Guilty as charged.” He leaned against the wooden railing, watching her with an intensity that made her heart stutter. “Maybe two outsiders can find something in common.”
Elena wasn’t sure why, but for the first time in a long time, she found herself wanting to know someone again.
Maybe the ocean had more than just healing to offer.
