Chapter Two

We found a row of seats that offered a clear view of the stage, and we settled in, getting ready to watch the proceedings comfortably. I initiated a conversation with the two girls to break the silence while we waited for the ceremony to continue. "Glad you chose NU?" I asked them. One of the girls smiled and replied, "Yes! We liked the courses here and the vibe of the school." She mentioned how they enjoyed the courses offered at NU and the overall atmosphere of the school. The other girl nodded in agreement, adding, "Plus, it's close to our homes, so it's more convenient to study here." She mentioned the convenience of studying at NU because of its proximity to their residences. I asked the two girls, "Which section are you from? I honestly didn't know where my classmates were seated, even though they had messaged me. However, I felt too shy to join them on my own. Is it okay if I join you for now?" One of the girls smiled warmly and said, "Sure, no problem! Come join us. I'm from section 102." I nodded. "We were just chatting during the parade since I don't know anyone else here," she added. After the parade, my parents went to the mall, and they called me, inviting me to join them for lunch. "Hi, dear! Come join us here in the food court. We've already ordered your favorite dishes," my mom cheerfully said over the phone. I replied excitedly, "Sure, Mom! I'll come over there." As I walked towards the food court, I realized that I forgot to ask for the names of the two girls I had talked to earlier. "Oh, I forgot to ask for their names earlier," I muttered to myself, feeling a bit embarrassed for forgetting such an important detail. When I arrived at the food court, my parents welcomed me with warm smiles. "How was the parade?" my dad asked, curious about my experience. "It was okay, Dad. It was nice because I had a conversation with some new friends earlier," I replied, recalling the pleasant chat I had with the two girls. "That's great to hear, dear. Let's eat," my mom said, gesturing towards the table filled with delicious food. Stepping into my first year of college, I was hit with a profound realization—I was now entering the realm of adulting. It was a thrilling yet daunting prospect, filled with uncertainties and new responsibilities that I had yet to fully grasp. As I sat in my first college class, surrounded by a sea of unfamiliar faces and the buzz of excitement, I couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. The transition from high school to college was not just a change in educational setting; it marked a pivotal moment in my life where I was expected to take on more independence, make critical decisions, and navigate the complexities of adulthood. At first, the prospect of adulting was intimidating. The questions swirled in my mind—what would happen to me in the coming years? What were the next steps I needed to take? The uncertainty of the future loomed large, casting a shadow of doubt and apprehension. Yet, amidst the fear, there was also a sense of excitement and anticipation. I was eager to explore new horizons, meet diverse people, and dive deep into subjects that piqued my curiosity. College offered a world of possibilities, a chance to grow intellectually, socially, and personally. As the days went by and I settled into the rhythm of college life, I realized that adulting was not just about facing challenges; it was about embracing opportunities for growth and self-discovery. Each lecture, discussion, and interaction opened my eyes to new perspectives, broadened my horizons, and challenged me to think critically and independently. The journey of adulting was a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows. There were moments of self-doubt and uncertainty, but there were also moments of triumph and clarity. I learned to navigate the intricacies of time management, decision-making, and personal responsibility. Looking back, I realized that the fears I had initially were natural and part of the process of transitioning into adulthood. What seemed daunting at first became a journey of empowerment, resilience, and self-realization. Adulting was not just about growing older; it was about growing wiser, more confident, and more capable of facing life's challenges with courage and determination. As the first chapter of my adulting journey came to a close, I felt a sense of pride and excitement for the chapters yet to unfold. I was ready to embrace the unknown, chase my dreams, and carve out my path in this vast and dynamic world of adulthood. I arrived at the college campus bright and early, eager to kick-start my first day of classes. As I made my way to the designated room for our first subject, I noticed that it was still locked. I glanced at my watch, realizing that I had arrived well before the scheduled start time. As I stood there in my white uniform, waiting near the stairs for my first college class, a feeling of unease crept over me. "It's so scary in here," I muttered to myself, noticing how eerily quiet and empty the hallway felt. The silence seemed to envelop the entire floor, amplifying every little sound - the soft hum of the air conditioning, the faint echo of footsteps in the distance. It was a stark contrast to the bustling energy I had expected on my first day of college. The emptiness of the hallway added to my nervousness, making me feel a bit isolated and out of place. I wondered if this was a common occurrence on this floor or if it was just because it was still early in the morning. Despite the eerie atmosphere, I tried to stay calm and composed, reminding myself that it was just the beginning of the semester and that things would soon pick up as more students arrived and classes got underway. A few minutes later, as I stood in the eerily quiet hallway, I noticed someone walking towards me. It was a girl, and I had a hunch that she might be one of my classmates. Her steps echoed softly in the silent corridor, breaking the stillness that had enveloped the floor. As she approached closer, I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and curiosity. Was she indeed heading to the same classroom as me? Would she be a friendly face in this new environment?
