14. A Father's Permission, a Brothers Promise and an Alpha's Threat

1852 Words
The room fell to a hush silence, the faintest pin drop could've been heard as the Alpha stood up, and circled the room to come back and stand next to his wife. "Come on, Edward, remember when we snuck out, that didn't end well for the both of us," his wife reminded him as she gushed over the two. Mason had his arm around Danica. Christine had already given her approval to the two; Mason now awaited the Alpha's. "You got our blessing," Chris spoke up, seeing as his father wasn't making a move to speak. "Edward," Christine called getting annoyed. "You have to give the boy some credit seeing he is asking for your blessing." The Alpha sighed, looking at his wife his gaze softens. "You have my blessing." He spoke begrudgingly, eying Mason. The Alpha looked at Danica who beamed back at him; he nodded at her gesturing to come towards him. Danica let go of Mason, and went to her dad who engulfed her in a hug, "I'm happy as long as you are." He said letting go. "Why don't you girls go up, I'm sure you got a lot of catching up to do, we'll see you there in a bit?" "Danica I'm so happy for you!" Avery pulled her into a hug as they made their way out of the room. The Alpha and Chris stood one side of the room, facing Mason who was on the other. "Mason," the Alpha began. "You may have my blessing now, as an Alpha but don't you ever think you will be safe if you ever hurt my daughter-this is coming from a father." The Alpha threatened in a low voice. Mason for a second didn't doubt the man, the threat may be empty right now but he could see it being acted upon. "Mason," Chris called. "I don't care how this sound, future alpha or not, I will come for you the day I see my sister with tears in her eyes, seeing as you are her mate you're suppose to keep her happy for as long as you live, and if that day comes I will be there in a heartbeat, for your sake I sincerely hope you don't f**k up." Chris promised, his wolf trying to come out, "This is your warning." He muttered as his canines grew and eyes changed the colour of his wolfs. The look in Chris's eye told Mason he wasn't just joking and if the drive was there, he would go to the lengths to hunt him down, even though the way he said it wasn't threatening, the promise made was believable and Mason knew Chris wasn't someone to mess with especially when it came down to family. Mason involuntarily shivered, at the thoughts and possibilities. Mason nodded taking it all in. Ultimately he was screwed. * Danica paced the room, nervously she hadn't seen Mason over the past few days which were getting to her seeing something or another kept getting in the way. "Danica," Avery called knocking on the door. "Come in." Danica continued to pace. "Nervous?" "Who, me, of course not," She scoffed. "Course you are, I was too. You're going out with your mate not only that he's a teacher." Avery wagged her eyebrows suggestively. "Go shower and I'll doll you up for tonight." She ushered her into the shower. As Danica freshened up, Avery picked out an outfit for Danica. Once Danica stepped out of the shower wrapped in a towel, Avery began on her hair and makeup. "Ave, what's new?" "The ceremony of the transition of Chris becoming Alpha is going to be held in the New Year seeing there is too much going on with the seasonal holidays coming and most people will be going out the country to spend their holidays and what not." Avery explained. "That's good right?" "It is, the preparations are being made, so much work for Chris but I think he'll be able to live up to it all, though your dad is worried with you not attending pack meetings as promised and knowing the pack business is going to affect us somehow." "I know I promised but I do attend as many as possible," Danica tried to defend herself; "I've at least made it to seven pack meetings." Avery finished with Danica's hair and makeup, sending her off to get dressed. "Quickly get dressed; I think he's already arrived. See you downstairs." Danica descended from the staircase, in white jeans and a floral top, which was matched off with a leather jacket. Mason as well as the rest of her family stood at the bottom of the stairs waiting for them. Mason leaned in towards her as he pulled her closer to his body. "You look gorgeous." He murmured in her ear. "You kids have fun," her mum said as her dad stood next to her saying nothing until Christine elbowed him in the gut. "Right have fun, my only concern is, what kind of transport are you planning on using, as you know Danica has a way with persuasion since she can persuade anyone and everyone and you are her mate I'm guessing not much persuasion is needed, there." "I can assure you no motorbikes will be involved, I will be driving." "What car?" "An Alfa Romeo" The Alpha nodded approvingly, with that they bid good night and left for the evening. Mason opened the door for Danica and helped her in, then hopped in the seat next to her and put the car in ignition. The car purred to life, and soon they were cruising down the street. "Danica," Mason called, getting her attention. "I know this isn't much of a first date, but I'm hoping the night would suffice as night progresses." He said pulling into a chip shop, turning off the ignition he helped her out. "Doesn't really matter, even if we were to go out to a fancy restaurant I'm too underdressed." Mason pulled her closer to his body as they entered the shop, "you still look stunning." He pecked her on the lips, quickly. "What would you like?" He asked queuing up. Danica wasn't as hungry as she would've usually have been seeing she was nervous with the jitters, she shook her head declining. "Can I have a portion of chips, and a cheese burger and two cans of coke?" With their orders in hand, they headed out. "Here's your cheese burger," Mason handed her the bag taking out the portion of chips. "Err, thanks, I'll have it later." She put the bag in the car. "Come, this way." He locked the door taking her by the hand leading the way through the back street, "It's not far from here, we got to walk the rest of the way because the streets are blocked off." The two reached the town centre where the fireworks were going off, the show had started as they took their seats, the sky filled with vibrant colours, songs filled the air coming from different directions. Mason tarred away the packaging revealing the chips, he offered Danica which she took happily. The firework display was interrupted by a gunshot. Followed by a loud growl. Mason shot up out of his seat, lifting Danica up. "We must go," his voice urgent as another gunshot cut through the cheers of the crowd, within second the crowd turned to an uncivilised mob of scarred civilians. "Danica, it is not safe, come on." He pulled her through the crowds trying not to break into a run, taking her through the back streets of dark alleyways. "This was a terrible idea," he muttered to himself. "Actually, I'm having fun." Danica told him, as she broke into a run taking the lead, soon Mason picked up the pace, leading the way to the car. It wasn't a problem for Danica to keep up she did so without an issue. "Who's driving me or you?" He shot her a look, "Get in," he ordered unlocking the car from afar. No way in heaven or hell was Mason going to let her drive not if he wanted to come out it alive. Danica rolled her eyes jumping into the car with grace. Mason put the car into ignition and reversed out of the spot without a problem, flooring it away from the city centre putting as much as distance as possible between them. "What was all that about?" Danica asked, the adrenaline wearing off. "Hunters were there." Mason said with a grim look on his face, as he looked at Danica who wore a grin. "I honestly didn't expect that, I didn't expect any wolf to be there tonight." Mason drove as if his life depended on it, speeding the way back to the pack house, only to stop at the red lights. Mason pulled up in front of the pack house, swiftly parking. Danica jumped out of the car before Mason could get out himself, Danica opened the door to the pack house letting herself in, leaving it open for Mason. "Danica," James wrapped her up in a hug before she even made it through the door. "You're okay right? You're not hurt are you?" "I'm fine, tonight was awesome." Danica said cheerfully. Her family looked at her like she had lost her mind. "Wherever Danica is, danger is nearby." Chris said, ruffling her hair. "Now that you're safe I can leave." James said bidding farewell. "Night James, be careful." Danica called after him. "Aren't I always?" He smirked. "You're the same as me." "Where's Danica?" The Alpha burst into the room. "Right here dad," Danica waved at him. "Do you have any idea what just happened, your mum's worried sick!" "Care to elaborate?" "A group of hunter's decided today was the best day to attack some wolves." Chris summed up. The Alpha turned to Mason with a pointed finger. "You, better count your blessing that she is fine, tonight and nothing happened to her." His eyes blazed black for a quick flash turning back to normal. "That," Danica piped in, "was an awesome first date, next time we should go quad biking." Danica suggested cheerfully. "I'm going to head in, Avery's waiting for me, dad before I go to bed I need to go over some arrangements for the ceremony." Chris led their father upstairs. "Don't think I don't know what you're doing," the Alpha muttered to his son, which didn't go unheard by Danica or Mason, Chris escorted their father away giving Danica and Mason some alone time. Once out of sight, Mason pulled Danica towards him by the shirt, pressing her up against him. "Did you really have fun?" He murmured his lips hovering above hers. The closeness had her choked up, all she could do was to nod. "Good," he whispered leaning into her, crashing his lips on hers. Mason pulled back leaving Danica breathless. "Good night," he smirked loving the effect he was having on her. "Night." She muttered, turning back and up the stairs without a second glance at him.
