~Issahil~
I wanted to leave here. This pack was the worst, a lot of illegal things were going on in this pack. Drug trafficking and using, street brawls, thieving and thuggery, the list is endless. I could not condone the things I was seeing. I had to find a way to escape and leave this madhouse termed a pack. Though it was almost impossible to successfully undergo such a feat but I would try.
“Issahil?”
I raised my head from the clothes I was laundering.
“The Alpha wants to see you.”
“Any reason why?”
I asked the maid who had come to deliver the Alpha’s message.
“I don’t know. He just specifically asked for you.”
I hope I had not done anything to offend him. I racked my brain but I couldn’t remember doing anything to offend him.
“Did he sound angry?”
I already knew how scared of him I was and didn’t bother to conceal it anymore.
“Relax, Issa. He doesn’t seem angry. Moreover, might you have done anything to infuriate him recently?”
I paused to think again, then shook my head.
“I don’t think so, but then, maybe he might have some grievances with me.”
“You can’t just stand there and keep guessing, go and find out. You fear too much.”
“And you don’t?”
I wiped suds from my hands and rinsed them in the big bowl of water I was using to rinse the clothes.
“Unless I’ve done something wrong.”
I wondered when I’d become most people who didn’t get scared at every little thing. Emotionally and physically, I’ve been bruised ever since I was a little girl. Being the only Omega in the family of Alphas and Lunas, that had increased my grandfather’s hatred for me, made Lillian mocked me more while uncle Duncan treated me with disdain.
“Yes, Alpha. You called for me.”
I stood before him, stance was fear-filled and nervous.
“Yes, I did call for you.”
I waited for him to tell the reason why he called me or to send me errands as he usually did but instead his eyes were roaming over me. It felt like I had stood they forever with the time he was taking to stare.
“Alpha?”
I called respectfully.
“Yes?”
His gaze came back to my face, and fixed there.
“Uhmm…you called for me.”
“Yes, I did. Henceforth, you’ll be working as my personal maid.”
“Huh?”
I became shocked, unable to form words. Ever since he’d brought me into his pack, I’d been working with the other maids attending to either kitchen duties or laundry services. And while it wasn’t the best of life for me, it was all I had and I had to be contented with it, and I mostly appreciated it because it made it rare for me to see the Alpha. I’ve never really had any personal meeting with him except the day he’d spoken to me in the carriage.
“Are you deaf?”
“No, Alpha. I’m sorry. I’m just…”
I trailed off, unable to really describe how I felt.
“Surprised? Shocked? Honored? Speechless?”
He provided. And for the first time, I saw him grin, it was quite smug. And for some reason, I thought it was appealing. No doubt, Alpha Logan was handsome but in a rugged sort of way.
“Ignoring me?”
His grin was about to morph into strong disapproval.
“Uhmm…no, Alpha. I’m speechless.”
I opted for the last one. Truly, I was. I didn’t know what to say.
“Hm. Anyways, you start working for me.”
I guess that decision was final. I had no say whatsoever.
“Okay, Alpha.”
“And you know what that entails?”
“I don’t understand, Alpha.”
“I mean the things you’re supposed to do as my personal maid.”
“Oh, I think I’ve got an idea.”
“Tell me.”
“I’d be responsible for your food, clothes, room and every other duties you wish to personally assign to me.”
“Good. And also, don’t forget you are to stay by me every time should I be in need of anything. Is that clear?”
“Yes, Alpha.”
“Now go get me my lunch.”
I bowed and hurried out of his presence. What did this mean for me? This new unexpected position was something I did not see coming. Alpha Logan was a man not to be trifled with and without mincing words, I was scared of him. Waiting on him round the clock was just another unfortunate situation life had to throw my way, as if I’d not gone through enough already.
“What was he calling you for?”
The maid that had come to call me asked as soon as she saw me step into the kitchen.
“Story of my life.”
I sighed. Then looked out the window to see that someone else had already taken over the laundry. I gave her an accusing glare. She just smiled.
“You knew.”
She shrugged.
“Not really, but I suspected.”
“And you didn’t care to give me a heads up?”
“I wasn’t sure. I just had my suspicions. Moreover, he didn’t bite, did he?”
“No, he didn’t. But now, he has the full access to.”
She laughed at that.
“So you just guessed, hm?”
“Yes.”
“Guessed enough to tell someone else to take over my washing?”
“Lucky guess.”
Another innocent shrug. Only she wasn’t innocent.
“Really? Just a guess?”
“Alright fine, I knew.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“And spoil the surprise for you?”
“This is far from the kind of surprise I ever want to receive.”
“It’s still a surprise.”
“But I thought he already has a personal maid, what happened to her?”
“No one knows.”
“No one knows?”
“Yes. She should be gone, I presume?”
“Gone where?”
I was already carrying out my first ‘personal maid’ duty. A pot was already on fire and vegetables were been sliced and diced by me. But some kitchen gossip might help me get acquainted with this role, especially if I understood what happened to the last personal maid.
“Sacked.”
“Why was she sacked?”
“I don’t know, though it’s just rumors but I don’t really see the truth in those rumors.”
“What rumors?”
“Are you even in this pack?”
“I don’t understand.”
“You don’t know?”
“If I did, I won’t be asking.”
“Rumors has it that the Alpha got tired of her.”
“Tired of her?”
“Their affair.”
“Oh.”
