Lyria didn’t have to wait long in the dark silence of the dungeons. Every so often, despite the warm furs piled around her and Sirre Firesell’s comforting presence, despite the knowledge that the cell she sat in was unlocked, she felt a passing shudder and spasm of fear. After some time, the dungeon filled with a dim light. A torch, held aloft by someone at the other end of the chamber, cast little shadows that reached all the way to Lyria. Somehow, the light made things more eerie, as if shining a light on the space was somehow wrong. Some things, Lyria thought, were better left in darkness. This wasn’t one of them, though.
