At around three p.m. that afternoon two things happened. First, the helicopter carrying Wilhelm Koenig and his newly distilled plague vaccine touched down on the village green, and within seconds of the German scientist setting foot on the green grass of Olney for the second time, a lumbering yellow beast in the form of a full size JCB excavator trundled along Olney’s main street escorted by two black police cars, one in front and one behind, blue lights flashing to announce their arrival.
