The story that Michael Sweeney related to the assembled gathering was in fact quite simple. When the first bomb had exploded, killing Flight Sergeant Taylor and the excavator driver, he’d gone to fetch refreshments for himself and the two men. When the explosion occurred, Sweeney had instantly run from the home of Graves intending to help in whatever way he could in the aftermath.
