“doctor come here, fast,” the man called for me, he was the head among the firefighters. He was giving orders to the others on every step. I ran to him holding my phone to my ears. There was a woman, almost at the end of the bus. Pregnant. Pale and fainted. I ran my eyes through her body and I can tell she was in her last trimester. Blood was flowing from her head from a big slit and dripping down to her floral dress. She must be in her mid-twenties. She had many small opens wounds on all over her body, she was sitting by the window and has many glass pieces piercing through her pale skin making way for blood to flow. Seeing that my heart rose up to the throat and started racing. This time is very critical for a woman. And being in such accidents can be fatal for both mother and child. I grabbed her hand to check on her pulse. It was slow, almost dead. “hello, doctor Salvatore are you there?” I heard a faint voice, from my phone. Doctor Robbins was still on the line. “take her to the hospital, fast.” I yelled and the man grabbed her and took her to the stretcher. Putting the phone back on my ear I said, “doctor, we have a pregnant woman here. Trimester. Her pulse rate is very low. “okay send her to the hospital.” He said in a stiff tone, almost like an order. Ezekiel “doctor and nurses gather here.” I spoke. “we have a bus accident reported by a fellow doctor. He is on the scene helping the rescue team.” I continued. “we have a pregnant woman, in her last trimester, on her way in the ambulance. her condition is very critical. She will need immediate medical attention.” I declared. “okay doctor, I will go and contact the OB-GYN department and prepare for every possible situation.” Head nurse Mrs. Stella said. “also prepare NICU.” I added. “yes doctor.” She said walking away in a fast pace. “how many causalities do we have there, doctor Salvatore?” I asked putting the phone on the speaker and signalling everyone standing here to come nearer. “I can see about twenty of them.” He replied. “doctor Grace, you are the in charge of the trauma centre until I come back. Make sure no patient stays unattended.” “any critical patients?” I asked again. “twelve of them have serious injuries, five are very critical.” He answered in a huffed voice. “doctor Owen you are coming with me. Do you have any operations before lunch time today?” I asked my assistant doctor and my friend, doctor Owen Harris. “no, doctor.” He answered. “great, prepare for field response kit and you both interns you are coming with us. Drop everything you have right now.” He said to the interns of his team. “yes sir”, they said in unison. “nurse, prepare Beds on the entrance.” He spoke. “yes sir, we’ll prepare for every situation and be on standby.” “let’s do it.” he cheered and ran out to the ambulance. “doctor Salvatore, we are coming with other doctors.” I said on the phone.
