Chapter 12

781 Words
Seeing Sophie's mocking smile, Ella couldn't hold back her anger. "People die on the 22nd too, why don't you join them?!" Ella snapped. Sophie's eyes widened as she raised her hand to slap Ella. "Sophie, you can leave now," Sabrina said coldly. As Sophie turned to leave, she muttered, "The 22nd will really be a great day. Just wait, Sabrina, you'll be the laughingstock of the city once again." After Sophie left, Ella tried to comfort Sabrina, whose face had darkened. "Sabrina, don't listen to her nonsense..." Sabrina forced a bitter smile. "Three years ago, on the 22nd, I married Adrian. I was so distraught back then. But now... I've come to terms with it." "Who's the jerk that chose the 22nd? It's clearly to spite you!" Ella fumed. The date would inevitably stir up gossip in Rainford City, bringing back memories of Sabrina's wedding and drawing unkind comparisons. *** After leaving the UFO building, Adrian went to buy an Audi A6. The weather was getting hotter, and he didn't want to torture Sabrina with his electric scooter anymore. He chose an Audi A6, modestly priced at 50,000 dollars. He always kept things low-key. Not far away, a red Ferrari roared to a stop, drawing the attention of passers-by. A young, handsome man stepped out. He removed his sunglasses and glanced at Adrian with disdain. "Hey buddy, going to pick up your girlfriend?" The man smirked at Adrian's Audi A6. "My wife," Adrian replied coolly. Adrian recognized the man as David Carter, one of Sabrina's suitors. The Carter family was one of the top families in Rainford City, and they were the first to secure a partnership with Eternal Love Real Estate. David, the favored heir, was known for his business acumen but also for his sleazy, womanizing ways. It was a fact well-known in high society. David had been infatuated with Sabrina for a long time. Even after she got married, he refused to give up. He believed that Sabrina's marriage to a poor man meant he still had a chance. He had even told Sabrina that if she divorced Adrian, he would move heaven and earth for them to marry and give her a grand wedding that would make headlines. "Impressive, getting married so young. I wasn't so lucky. The woman I like married a loser, but I know she hasn't let that loser touch her these three years, so if she's willing, I can marry her anytime," David said smugly. Adrian ignored him, acting as if he hadn't heard a word. David narrowed his eyes, feeling annoyed. As the future heir of the Carter family, he was used to being treated like royalty wherever he went. Adrian's indifference felt like an insult. He rubbed his chin, thinking of a way to humiliate Adrian, but before he could say anything, Sabrina walked out of the office building. Ignoring Adrian for the moment, David ran over to her. "Sabrina, I've booked a restaurant. Have dinner with me tonight," David said with a smirk. Sabrina detested David a lot. He saw women as playthings, and every woman he pursued ended up in misery. Some became infertile after multiple abortions, others were passed around his friends, and one high school girl he r***d had been driven to suicide with no compensation or justice given to her family. Even the sight of him made Sabrina sick. "David, I'm married. Please stop bothering me," Sabrina said firmly. David chuckled, "That loser—does he even deserve you? Can he give you luxury cars and mansions? If you're with me, I'll give you all the wealth you could ever want." "Sorry, my husband is here to pick me up." Sabrina walked straight to Adrian, unwilling to waste her breath on David. David was momentarily stunned. 'So, this guy is Sabrina's loser husband? Fine, you ignored me earlier—let's see how you handle this.' "So, you're Sabrina's infamous loser husband. Well, seeing you in person is something else," David sneered at Adrian. Adrian remained calm. "Glad I didn't disappoint you." David laughed derisively. 'What a pushover. He can't even defend himself when insulted.' "I can give Sabrina a better life. What can you offer her? If you know what's good for you, you'll disappear," David continued to mock him. "Oh? And what can you offer her?" Adrian asked, curious. David glanced proudly at his Ferrari. "Do you have a car like this? I have three of them in my garage. Plus, I booked the entire Crystal Restaurant for Sabrina, just the deposit alone cost me three hundred grand. Do you even know how much that is? It's enough to bury you in cash!"
