“Dianne! Are you going home, ride on, we’ll send you.”
Dianne was a bit surprised when she turned and see Eli, she shook her head, “Thanks, but I’m going somewhere else.”
Eli was a bit disappointed not only because Dianne turned her down, but also, the girl returned to being aloof to her.
“Where are you going then? We’ll take you there.” persisting hoping she will not be rejected again.
“I don’t want to be a bother, you will be too out of the way,” Dianne politely said and started to walk while the car is slowly following her.
Eli slightly panicked, Dianne was getting away, she rummages her bag and picks out the pen that she borrowed from the girl.
“Hey Dianne, forgot to return your pen” she sticks it out the window and waves it to Dianne.
Dianne tried to reach for her pen but Eli jerks her hand away,
“You’ll only get this if you get in the car,” Eli flashing her sweetest smile.
Dianne blushed and slightly hesitates but started to walk again, “I really can’t, I’ll just get it from you tomorrow, sorry”
“Then how about this?” Eli showed the notebook that Dianne left in the library.
Dianne turned to her again and seemed stunned that she was holding her notebook.
Eli acted as she was about to flip the pages
“You left it in the---” but the other girl swiftly opened the door, got in, and shoved her to the other side of the seat.
Eli who was slightly baffled by the sudden closeness, tried to laugh it off, “H-ey why the sudden hurry?” she felt something fluttering in her stomach as her nose fills with Dianne’s scent.
“I’m already in; now give it back to me.”
Eli can hear a slight annoyance in the tone.
“Are you mad?”
Dianne tried to calm herself, “No…It just feels like I am being played…”
The second part of the statement was said in a whisper hoping it would not be heard, but Eli heard it well, she slightly felt guilty. She just pretended, she didn’t hear her.
“If I knew, this notebook is going to get you here; I should have shown it to you earlier, is there some secret in here?”
“Give it back,” Dianne said consciously.
“I’m gonna keep this first until we get you to your destination”
Dianne just folded her arms and turn her gaze outside the car in surrender.
“Mr. Shin let’s go,”
“Where to?” the driver asks
“To our first destination, I’m really hungry”
“Where are we going?” the other girl seemed puzzled by the exchange between Eli and the driver.
“You’ll know when we get there,” Eli flashes a smile and a wink gaining a blush from Dianne.
“I don’t have the time for a detour, I really have to go home.”
“Huh? I thought you’re going somewhere else? Aha! You’ve been caught Dianne Park, are you trying to avoid me?” Eli acted as if she was hurt.
“No, I was just…I don’t want to bother you.”
“It’s okay you know we’re classmates anyway. Have you been commuting to get home?”
“Yeah, I’m really not used to drivers; I’ve learned how to be independent of my parents.”
“Uh I see, ah right, I haven’t introduced you to my driver yet, Mr. Shin, meet Dianne Park; my classmate and my newfound friend, Dianne; say hi to my favorite driver Mr. Shin,” Eli said proudly.
The two exchange greetings while looking at the rearview mirror.
“As expected, Miss Elise, really have beautiful friends ” The driver continued.
“Thank you, sir,” Dianne said shyly.
“But earlier, if I haven’t known that Miss Dianne is a girl, I would have thought you were talking your boyfriend,” Mr. Shin told Eli.
The two girls exchanged glances and blushed.
“What?! How could you say that Mr. Shin?”
“Well, you sounded so eager and cheerful.”
“Of course, I’d sound cheerful, she’s a new friend that I’m really happy to see,” Eli replied hoping she didn’t sound too defensive.
The driver just smiled, oblivious that he just made the atmosphere between Eli and Dianne very awkward.
“Do you want to some…chocolates?” Eli offers the one that she has been munching earlier.
Dianne just looked at her and shook her head.
“Why? Don’t you like it? Or you just don’t want to accept anything from me?” Eli was discouraged by her thoughts.
“No! It’s nothing like that, as much as I want to, I don’t eat chocolates,” Dianne shook her head earnestly to convince the other girl.
“You don’t eat chocolates? Why? Allergies? They’re my favorite though.”
“No, I don’t have allergies, but does,t it tastes like crayons?” Dianne answered
“Really? Do you think chocolates taste like crayons? That’s weird.” Eli smiled, slightly amused by the other girl’s explanation.
The car stopped by a drive-thru, they bought burgers and fries, and this time, Dianne wasn’t able to turn down Elise's offer to buy her one too.
As Mr. Shin proceeded to drive, he asked Dianne, where they’ll drop her off.
Dianne was a bit wary and instead, of giving the exact address, she just told Mr. Shin when to turn left, right, or go straight.
Elise finds it a bit weird but she didn’t say anything until they reach an awfully familiar road. She is almost sure but she waited until Dianne told Mr. Shin to stop.
Dianne turned to her and snatched the notebook that she’s been holding hostage on her lap, and immediately got off the car.
Dianne wordlessly bowed to express her gratitude to Mr. Shin and her and ran towards the gate of a huge house.
Eli was left in shock, she couldn’t explain her feelings, it felt like someone she likes just stole a kiss from her, it felt good but she felt cheated.
“What the hell, Dianne Park, we’re neighbors?! Since when…?”
