Kate woke up the next morning feeling terrible. She couldn't sleep a wink the previous night, the events of the previous day kept tormenting her. She found herself staring at Brandon Card without notice.
Oh well, f**k her instincts, she was going to take the offer.
She picked up her phone and dailed
the number and when it began to ring, Kate knew she was going to regret that decision.
"Brandon Lewis here" the deep rich voice said and she got tongue tied. There was something about his voice today, or maybe it was his morning voice but all together it was beautiful.
"Brandon, this is Kate". She found herself say.
" I have been expecting your call Kate, about time you made a decision don't you think?". His deep voice said slightly amused and Kate cringed.
"Lower your ego Brandon, it's not like I'm signing to marry you" She sneered.
"You don't know about that love, or do you?".
This was the first time he had called her "love" and her heart was going berserk.
"Meet me in my office by ten, you have to sign the contract as soon as possible love, I have things to do so don't be late". With that he hung up before Kate could protest.
It was eight already and Kate found herself running round the apartment in a bid to make breakfast and get ready at the same time. She wouldn't want Brandon be on her case all morning.
Clad in jeans and a ruffled top, she slipped in her flats and ran all the way to the garage.
The receptionist was chirpier than she remembered today and she brushed a smile in her direction. Stepping into the elevator, she silently prayed for a saving grace. Brandon's secretary flashed her a smile and motioned her to keep moving all the way to Brandon's office.
The large wooden door reminded her of what happened when last she came here and all of a sudden she was nervous. She couldn't afford to embarrass herself more than she already has.
Pushing open the door, she voice she had been dreading spat roughly.
" About time you got here princess."
Kate froze and mentally cursed. She didn't fail to notice the slight disgust when he said the word princess.
"You know what, you should actually decide what you want to call me, love or princess". She spat angrily.
The amusement on Brandon's face was unnoticed. He had the guts to even smirk at her and all Kate wanted to do was go over there and rip out his throat. She was just two minutes late and he was already making a big deal out of it.
"Calm down there princess, you look like you are ready to faint any minute. Come have a seat, we can't keep Mr Williams here waiting." Brandon said with a smile that Kate knew was evil.
Her eyes looked to the right and saw a man sitting there and watching the both of them through his glasses.she didn't even realize they had company all these while. Plastering a smile on her face, she extended her hands and said.
" Hi, I'm Kate"
"Mr Williams, Brandon's lawyer". The man replied.
" Take a seat Kate, or do you want to keep standing?" Brandon interrupted.
Her face once again turned sour.
" I'd very much like to sit down dumbass". She muttered.
" what did you just call me?" A slightly irritated Brandon asked.
"Nothing" she muttered and sat.
After minutes of silence, Mr Williams cleared his throat, with a smile he said.
"Since you both are done bickering like little kids. We should get down to business now. Shall we?"
"Now here is the contract Kate, I assume Brandon has briefed you of things you are likely going to see here. Go through it and sign so we can get this over and done with and I can leave this place so you guys can have enough time to kill yourselves".
With that Kate smiled knowingly and took the papers he extended. Brandon has grown quite while she read the contract over and over again while Mr Williams tapped furiously on his phone. Everything Brandon has told her previously was under-listed here, the only difference was that this was just a longer and explanatory version.
"Sorry mr Williams, I have a question"
The old man looked up immediately and answered
" Go on dear, I'm pretty sure everything written down there is self explanatory but anyways you could still ask me".
Kate chucked and nodded. She really didn't have any issues with the papers. She just wanted to piss someone off.
" I didn't see where it says Brandon could call me love or princess, been looking for it quite a while now".
Brandon's face shot up in a smile and Mr Williams groaned.
" it's my choice love. Does it affect you? I'd gladly give you a new name. Does baby substitute?" Brandon replies calmly.
This time Kate was infuriated. Just as she was about to speak Mr Williams cut in.
"How about you sign these papers already and I get out of here, you both infuriate me, for Christ sake I have a place to be and the both of you are not making my work any easier",
He said with a groan.
Kate signed the papers hesitantly and Mr Williams scampered out of the office mumbling incoherently with the papers tucked inside his bags.
"You are a little minx, you know that don't you love?" Brandon said with a huge grin plastered on his face.
Kate couldn't help but ignore his comment, she had no words for him. He'll just end up giving her more reason to try to strangle him.
"Silence doesn't fit you love" he cooed.
"Whatever" Kate mumbled.
" I have news for you by the ways, our first outing as a couple begins today love, I expect you to be ready by seven, I'll come pick you up. Remember, dress beautifully." With that he stood up and left.
And for a zillion times, Kate had found herself speechless and in rage once again.
