His biggest regret
CHAPTER 1 Her entire world shattered before her eyes in the space of forty-eight unbearable hours. The man she had loved with every beat of her heart walked away without looking back, abandoning the vows he had once sworn would last forever. Before she could even begin to comprehend that betrayal, fate dealt her an even crueler blow. Her precious little girl....her sunshine, her reason for waking up every morning, the tiny heartbeat that made every sacrifice worthwhile was gone. One moment, Lizzy had a home filled with laughter, tiny footsteps, and dreams for the future. The next, she was standing in the middle of a life that had turned into ruins. She had given everything to build her little family. She had sacrificed sleepless nights, career opportunities, her own happiness, and pieces of herself just to make sure the people she loved never lacked anything. Every decision she made was for them. Every prayer she whispered was for their happiness. Yet none of it was enough. In less than forty-eight hours, the husband she trusted became a stranger, and the daughter she loved more than life itself became nothing more than a heartbreaking memory. The walls that once echoed with her child's laughter now felt painfully silent. Every toy scattered across the floor, every tiny dress hanging in the closet, every photograph smiling back at her became a cruel reminder of everything she had lost. Her heart wasn't merely broken, it had been ripped apart... leaving behind a hollow ache no tears could wash away. Breathing became painful. Existing became unbearable. The future she had spent years building had crumbled into dust before she even had the chance to fight for it. How could life be so merciless? How could everything she loved be taken from her in just forty-eight hours? She wasn't just grieving the loss of her husband and child. She was mourning the death of the woman she used to be. Lizzy Scroff was a beautiful twenty two years old woman whose life seemed picture-perfect. Intelligent, hardworking, and fiercely devoted to her family, she had built a successful career while raising her three-year-old daughter, Lou, alongside the man she believed was the love of her life. To everyone around her, Lizzy had it all—a thriving career, a beautiful home, a loving husband, and the sweetest little girl anyone could ever meet. She would have done anything to protect the family she had worked so hard to build. But all of that changed on one fateful afternoon. The memories remained painfully fresh, as though they had happened only yesterday. Lizzy arrived home earlier than usual, hoping to surprise her family by preparing dinner herself. "Good afternoon, ma'am," Lou's nanny, Anastasia, said politely as she picked up her handbag. "I'll see you tomorrow." "See you tomorrow, Anastasia," Lizzy replied with a warm smile. "Mummy!" three-year-old Lou squealed happily, waddling toward her with tiny outstretched arms. Lizzy scooped her daughter into a tight embrace and kissed her forehead. "I missed you too, sweetheart," she whispered. "Where's Daddy?" she asked. "Upstairs," Lou answered, pointing toward the master bedroom. Lizzy smiled. "Come on. Let's go surprise him." Carrying Lou in her arms, she climbed the staircase. As she approached the bedroom, she heard muffled voices behind the closed door. Her smile slowly faded. Something didn't feel right. With a trembling hand, she pushed the door open. The sight before her shattered her world. Her husband, Nicholas, was in an intimate embrace with her personal assistant, Chyna. Lizzy instinctively covered Lou's eyes before the little girl could understand what she was seeing. Silence filled the room. Nicholas froze. "L-Lizzy..." he stammered, scrambling to compose himself. "What is going on?" Lizzy asked, her voice barely above a whisper. She wasn't angry. Not yet. She was simply... broken. Chyna quickly grabbed her belongings. "Ma'am... I... I can explain..." Lizzy looked at her with tear-filled eyes. "No," she said quietly. "You can't." After a long pause, she pointed toward the door. "Leave." Without another word, Chyna hurried out of the house. Lizzy turned to face her husband. "Nick..." she whispered. "Why?" Nicholas sighed impatiently. "You've been too busy with work. Every time I asked for s*x you were exhausted or occupied. I got tired of waiting." Lizzy stared at him in disbelief. "So this was your solution? To betray me... with my employee? and besides we have s*x every f*****g night no matter how tired I am so what do you mean" "I wanted more Lizzy! more rough longer s*x! but that doesn't matter now...I've made up my mind," Nicholas replied coldly. "I want a divorce." The words struck her like lightning and the walls around her started spinning. "A divorce?" she repeated weakly. Nicholas walked to the bedside drawer and pulled out a large brown envelope. "I've already prepared the papers. Sign them this instant" Lizzy felt her knees weaken. "Nick... we've spent ten years building this life together. We have a daughter. Doesn't any of that matter to you?" He remained expressionless. "I've moved on." Her heart pounded painfully. "You... you're seeing someone else?" "I have been for a long time." Tears streamed down Lizzy's cheeks. "I worked day and night to provide for this family. Everything I did was for us." Nicholas shrugged. "I never asked you to." Lou looked between her parents, confused by the raised voices. "Mummy... don't cry," she said softly, wiping away her mother's tears with her tiny hands. That simple gesture broke Lizzy completely. She hugged her daughter tightly. "I'll always protect you," she whispered. Nicholas grabbed the divorce papers and tossed them onto the table. "sign them now Lizzy, or I'll do something we'll both regret!." he yelled already getting furious Lizzy shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "No, Nick. I'm not signing anything. We can fix this. We owe it to Lou." Nicholas let out a bitter laugh. "You're still living in a fantasy." Without warning, he strode toward Lizzy and snatched Lou from her arms. "Daddy!" the little girl cried in confusion. "Nick!" Lizzy gasped. "Give her back!" Instead of answering, Nicholas carried Lou toward the large bedroom window. He unlocked it and pushed it open. A rush of cold wind filled the room. Lizzy's heart skipped a beat. "Nick... what are you doing?" she whispered, frozen with fear. Nicholas turned around slowly, a chilling smile spreading across his face. "I'm done playing games." He tightened his grip on Lou and positioned her dangerously close to the open window. The little girl burst into frightened tears. "Mummy!" Lizzy's legs nearly gave way. "Please... don't do this." "Then sign the papers." "Nick, she's your daughter!" "Then sign them!" His voice thundered through the room. Lizzy's entire body trembled. "You're scaring her!" "I don't care." He shifted Lou even closer to the opening. "If you don't sign these papers right now, you'll regret it for the rest of your life." Lizzy's vision blurred with tears. She looked at her terrified daughter, then at the divorce papers lying on the table. Every instinct screamed at her not to give in. But she couldn't risk Lou's life. With shaking hands, she grabbed the pen. "I'll sign..." Nicholas lowered Lou slightly but kept his cold eyes fixed on Lizzy. "Hurry." Unable to stop crying, Lizzy signed every page. The moment the final signature was complete, Nicholas snatched the documents from her hand. He walked back and thrust Lou into Lizzy's arms. The little girl clung tightly to her mother, sobbing uncontrollably. Nicholas slipped the papers into his briefcase. A satisfied smile crossed his face. "It was fun while it lasted." He picked up his suitcase and walked toward the door. Just before leaving, he glanced over his shoulder. "My lawyer will take it from here." The front door slammed shut. The sound echoed through the silent house. Still holding Lou close, Lizzy collapsed onto the floor. Her marriage was over. Her family had been torn apart. And the man she once loved had become a stranger she no longer recognized. As Lou cried against her chest, Lizzy silently made a promise. One day... Nicholas would regret everything.
