No man would leave you for anything at all. Today is going to be memorable” May told her best friend It was Evelyn’s engagement ceremony and everyone had gathered to celebrate with her . She was scared out of her mind about it but she had been with Julius for practically her entire life. Enough reason for her to feel like he was the one for her. Evelyn gathered enough courage and walked out of the car. She stared at the hall while her hand was hooked to that of her childhood best friend May. They both stared into each other eyes and back at the hall and smiled. The hall was beautifully lit with bulbs everywhere, flowers arranged and also guests in their colorful attires. May spotted a friend and left Evelyn alone letting her know that she would be back. “Evelyn, my daughter you look soooo gorgeous today baby” Mrs Jandre said. “Awn mummy, you know I had to look my best for today. Today we are celebrating nothing else but love.” Evelyn said back to her mother. Her mother stared back into her eyes and smiled at her. “You are blessed my child”. She smiled and walked away to attend to other guests. When her mother walked passed, she began looking around for her fiancé but he was nowhere in sight. The hall was getting hot so she took a step out for a little fresh air. She drank a few while still waiting for her fiancé but there was no sight of him around. She was worried sick to her guts but couldn’t do anything. The night ended and there was no sight of him still. Guests had already began leaving but still nothing. She had tried calling too but nothing. His phone was switched off. Everyone tried but nothing. Evelyn sat down in the hall with tears in her eyes scared to death that something may have happened to her man. 12 O’ clock the time struck and mega news was everywhere. The headline’LUCAS GRAND HAD PROPOSED TO MAY SUNI’ Everyone saw it ….no one could believe the news phone calls were made. People surrounded Evelyn to ask if she was seeing the news but she made no response. She started at her phone and wondered when it had all happened with tears dripping down her face and her mascara smudged. She left the hall entered a car and drove nowhere ALIAS POV “ Dan, what’s this news I hear of. A random Lucas getting engaged to the best friend of his fiancée” Alias asked “ I really dunno Alias. It’s quite shocking. But if you want me to dig in for you I can” Dan responded “With immediate effect” Alias commanded and Dan left the room. Dan has always had a thing for Evelyn since highschool. He always had the reputation of bad boy but quiet. Never really getting into trouble. Girls swarm around him but he paid no attention till he moved to Mexico and no one heard about him anymore. He read the news and was wondering why Lucas would do such to someone who he had been with for more than 6 years. Despite the fact that Alias was away, he always kept tabs on Evelyn. EVELYN POV “I need to get home “. She speed through the highway heading to where she believed was going to be a safe place for her but she never knew what awaited her. She drove in parked her car and summoned enough courage to come down the car. Faced with the pitiful look the workers gave her her shame and embarrassment only grew . She tried forcing back the tears but it would take absolutely nothing to not see it. She walked up the stairs and stared at the door right in front of her. She couldn’t bear the look of everyone in the family. Her crippled sister and also her mum who had a few months left the leave and then her ruthless father. Though she had a company, there was a great loss so financial issues began and her father developed a king of hatred towards the family. She opened the door and met her mother on the floor with tears in her eyes and her sister on the wheelchair shivering. She was shocked at what she saw. She rushed over to her mum to help her sit and hugged her while letting out her tears. Evelyn apologized severally that’s she was sorry and didn’t know what had happened. Her father came in and met her. He gripped her by the arm and rose her to her feet. Evelyn’s puffed eyes met the cold gaze of her father. “You are leaving this house this minute’ he shouted. “You would pack all that you own and leave my house. You have brought disgrace to me and this name and I won’t let that happen. I rather disown you than let this family’s name get drawn”. Evelyn was confused. She didn’t do anything. Nothing was her fault. She begged her father to please forgive her. She hadn’t committed a crime. She was just betrayed. What offense had she committed? She had no energy in her to shout nor scream. She asked, Father what did I do?” Mr Jandre through documents at her. Each document contained financial records of money embezzled. The family’s business was at a great loss. Debt was screaming at her face while she stared at the paper. She was confused. She couldn’t process anything at all. She just stared. Her father didn’t want to listen to her at all.
