Chapter 53: Swamp Battle

897 Words
Having the mature Falcarius in front of him, Ivan wasn’t confident that he could win the battle but he wasn’t nervous. Due to his past experiences, he knew that he could run away if things went wrong. Ivan kept hitting on the Falcarius with his Speed Staff.  Thanks to his continuous attack, Falcarius's blood volume finally dropped to 20%, but suddenly a green label appeared across the body of Falcarius. Following that, Falcarius's blood volume began to gradually increase. “That’s Revenant…neither talent nor skill…” Ivan was shocked but thankful that the mob was still at Common Level and his attack speed was faster than that of the Revenant. -15 -14 "Come on! Ivan! Can could do better!” Ivan yelled at himself. The red powder consumed the mob’s blood, but the damage was still very minimal. Ivan decided to try the green powder, which was capable of weakening a mob’s defense skill. -69 -72 Critical Strike-141 “Critical Strike? Great! I will be hitting you with more green powder!” Ivan knew it was hard to achieve Critical Strike as a Priest. As he expected, Falcarius fell at his feet and when Ivan kicked the body, one silver coin and scaly material appeared.  “s**t. I swear I will learn some attack skill when I get back,” Ivan couldn’t imagine how hard it could be if he came across a real boss, “Oh, Could I use three powders at the same time?” Ivan looked around and then slowly turned his head back. He thought he saw something that was not there before. He was right, a not appeared in mid-air. “Swamp Challenge?” A huge title showed above the note. At the center of the reading note was a thin red line, showing only a number.     “One? What does that mean?” Ivan was a bit confused, “Is this some hidden mission…Ah, I see! Something will happen when I kill enough Falcarius!” As he read the note, three more Falcarius appeared. "Come on, big reptile," Ivan lifted his staff. Two minutes later, three Falcarius laid dead on the ground. Ivan looked back to the red line, as he expected, the number increased to four. It seemed that the more Falcarius he killed, the more progress he made. He immediately decided to change his strategy, he began to look everywhere for Falcarius. Although his attack skill was not the best, the progress bar was still steadily moving. 20 30 60 100 ...... An hour later the progress bar was finally full and Ivan reached Level 17. He was more excited to see that his two skills, Poisoning, and Mass Heal, reached to Greater, and the Poison-Ace Mage reached Average. His Heal skill was Proficient and once his other skills reached that level he would be eligible to learn a new skill. He was so excited to be one step closer. As the progress bar reached 100, something strange began to happen. The quiet swamp boiled, with grass and leaves rolling across the top of it. When Ivan saw a tree fall into the water, he started to get scared, “It’s not an earthquake, is it?” Ivan was unable to keep his balance due to the violent shaking. His eyes were focused on the darkest spot in the swamp, he felt as if he was standing in dark, black fog. "s**t! I knew I picked the right place!” Ivan was happy about the decision he made. There had to be a strong boss in the area, he continued to watch the black fog over the swamp with anticipation. As the dark fog grew, a strong smell arose. It smelled like thousands of dead bodies being shaken free from the bottom of the swamp. Ivan quickly covered his nose with the sleeve of his shirt. -2 -3 Ivan noticed that his blood volume decreased when he covered his mouth and nose. He assumed there was something wrong with the dark fog, then waved his staff calmly to increase his blood volume.   Five minutes later, a monster finally appeared in the black fog. It was still mostly hidden by the mist; however, Ivan was able to see its stats.  Shadow Giant (Golden) Level: 23 ATK: 100 HP: 7000 DEF: 60 Profile: Horror mob hidden under the swamp. It survives by sucking the breath of death, and it will be awakened when the breath of death in the swamp reaches 100. Skill: Wave Claws. ATK+25%; Additional Poisoning injury+2%; CD: 60 seconds. Summon: Summon Shadow Monster from the Hell. CD: 300 seconds. Average Revenant: Revenant is activated when its HP is reduced to 20%. CD: 30 seconds. "What the hell? A Golden boss? Are you kidding me?" Ivan exclaimed. Clearly, this boss was even stronger than Skullshatterer, the one he met in the Centaur camp. Looking at its HP and DEF, Ivan knew that it could be the hardest mission he ever had. Fortunately, he also knew that a boss like that always sucked at attacking. Shadow Giant opened his huge eyes and stared at Ivan, making a ghostly sneer. Ivan was pretty sure he had heard him mocking when he said, “Young man, you are going to die!” The terrifying laugh, dreary fog, and a huge monster were combined into one apocalyptic image to weaken a player’s mind. As the owner of two Epic equipment, Ivan was used to creepy situations. Even if it was the God of Death standing before him, he would fight to the end. After all, the worst-case scenario was his death. Realizing that he could die, Ivan raised his staff, then turned to run away.
