Jason’s POV The nightmare gripped me like a vice, pulling me deeper and deeper, even as I forced myself to pull myself out of it. My breaths came in short gasps, and sweat poured down my back as I thrashed against the heavy, invisible strain pressing on my chest. I laid there almost immobile. I couldn’t move well, couldn’t speak. Every part of me was frozen except for my mind, which screamed so loudly. The walls in my dream seemed to close in around me, suffocating me, their edges sharp and merciless. I tried to shout, to call out for Cara, but the sound wouldn’t come. This was like a routine for me though, on nights when my nightmare decided to visit, and I would take it like that without any fuss. I had undergone treatment after I left the army, but sometimes, I had dreams like this.
