Cara’s POV The steady rhythm of a machine’s beeping brought me back to consciousness. My eyelids felt heavy, but I forced them open, squinting against the dim light filtering through the door. I knew this was as a result of the drugs that were given to me, but I could also tell that it was the exhaustion my body had gone through these past few days. Outside, when I turned my head towards the window, I could see that the sky was painted with shades of deep purple and soft orange, the sun dipping just below the horizon. It was almost night. I sighed and let my head sink deeper into the pillow, my body aching in ways I couldn’t quite pinpoint.
