Lydia woke up with the sun shining in her bedroom window and smiled, despite the pain in her arm. She was looking forward to today with Trevor. She got up from the bed and made it to the bathroom to wash up and everything. It was still early in the morning, Trevor wasn’t meant to come by until around lunch, so she had time to pick the perfect outfit and eat breakfast and see if her mom could fix something for lunch for her and Trevor. She made it downstairs and found her mom sitting at the table sipping her coffee, like most mornings. “Hi, Mom, how are you?” Lydia asked as she rounded the counter to grab something to eat. Mrs. Wilson replied, “I’m good honey, how is your arm?” Lydia shrugged and said, “It’s hurting so I going to take some pain medicine and eat some breakfast.” Her mom nodded and noticed that Lydia was struggling with getting the medicine bottle open, “Lydia would you like me to help you with the bottle and fixing you something to eat?” Lydia let out a breath and said, “That would be great, thanks.” Lydia went the table and sat down. Her mom came back over with her pills and a glass of water. “What would you like for breakfast, dear?” Her mom asked. “Bacon and toast would be fantastic,” Lydia said. Her mom laughed and said, “Sure honey.” “How is work going for you,” Lydia asked her mom. Mrs. Wilson looked up from the stove and replied, “Work has been great. Dr. Mays is a wonderful person to work for. I am definitely enjoying the patients. It is so much slower than a hospital that I normally work at.” Lydia nodded and said, “I am glad you are enjoying your job Mom. How is dad doing with his job?” Mrs. Wilson replied, “It has been pretty stressful for him this past week. He is the head contractor on this particular job and he has a deadline to make so. But he is doing his best.” “When is the deadline?” Lydia asked. Her mom brought her food to the table for her and said, “Around Christmas I think. I am not really sure.” Lydia nodded and began to eat her breakfast while her mom cleaned up the kitchen.
Lydia went upstairs to gather her clothes for the day. She grabbed a light purple dress, since that would be easier to put on with her caste arm. Lydia went to her door and yelled for her mom to help with her dress. Mrs. Wilson came up and helped her with her dress and her hair. “What is going on with this Trevor guy anyway?” her mom asked. Lydia blushed and shrugged, “I don’t know Mom, but we are just friends.” Lydia’s mom replied, “Alright, honey. But if things change, let me know OK.” Lydia nodded, “Oh, Mom could you fix us something to eat for lunch when he comes over. He should be here around lunch time.” Mrs. Wilson smiled and asked, “What are you wanting for lunch?” Lydia thought for a moment and said, “How about mini burgers?” Her mom nodded and said, “That I think I could do. Anything else?” Lydia said, “Homemade Lemonade?” Mrs. Wilson nodded and went out to get thing prepared for lunch. Lydia went to her bedside table to grab her phone and notice she had text message, “Hey Lydia, I am getting ready now, I should be there in about twenty minutes.” Lydia smiled and became nervous, Trevor will be here soon. She grabbed her book bag and went downstairs to set up the study area on the kitchen table. As soon as she got the lemonade set up on the table as well, the doorbell rang.
“Hi,” she said as soon as she open the door. Trevor replied with and wave, “Hi, how are you feeling?” Lydia rushed him and replied, “I’m OK, it hurts a little but the pain meds are helping. Thanks for asking.” Trevor nodded and said, “I see that you went with a pink caste, is that your favorite color?” Lydia looked down at her arm and said, “Yeah it is, follow me we will be having lunch here soon and I have already set up the study area at the kitchen table.” “Alright sounds good.” They went to the table and sat down, then Lydia asked Trevor, “Would you like some lemonade?” Trevor replied, “Yeah I would love some.” Lydia poured them some in two separate glasses and handed him one. “Thanks,” he said. Mrs. Wilson came over with lunch, “It’s good to see you again Trevor. I made mini burgers per request from my lovely daughter. I hope that is OK.” Trevor replied, “It smells delicious and I am a growing boy so anything is OK with me, Mrs. Wilson.” Lydia thanked her mom and grabbed herself a mini burger and looked at Trevor and said, “We will eat then get busy with studying.” Trevor nodded and grabbed himself a burger. They ate in silence with an occasional glances at each other. As they got done with lunch, Trevor volunteered to put the dishes up in the sink for her. Lydia said, “Trevor you didn’t have to do that, you are a guest.” Trevor replied, “I don’t mind and plus it looks like it hard for you do much with that caste. I am here today to help you.” Lydia smiled and blushed. “OK, if you insist and thank you.” Trevor nodded and winked at her, “It’s my pleasure.” “Let’s get to work now so we can go play later. I can’t wait to see the town,” Lydia said. Trevor said, “Of course, we must get some ideas down for our project.” Lydia got her laptop out and some pen and papers. They got started doing the research on their class project on the Civil Right Movement. Trevor stopped and asked her, "Would you mind me signing your caste?" Lydia laughed, "I did say you could signed it didn't I? Yeah let me go get the markers." She went to the kitchen and grabbed the markers out of the junk drawer. Trevor grabbed the blue marker and took her arm and signed his name with a heart beside it. Lydia looked down and smiled and said, "Thanks, now its time to finish up." Trevor nodded with a wink.
Time flew by and it was about 4:00 in the evening, Trevor asked her, “Are you ready to hit the town?” Lydia replied, “Sure, let me just clean up the table and take my stuff up to my room, then I will meet you outside.” Trevor nodded and said, “Sure.” Lydia grabbed her bag and took it up stairs to her room and grabbed her shoes and purse off the dresser and rushed outside. Trevor was leaning against his car with his hands in his pants. ‘He is so cute, I’m a little nervous about going out, I hope he can’t tell’ Lydia thought to herself. Lydia got to the car, “Penny for you thoughts.” Trevor looked up and said, “Just thinking about what place I’m taking you to for dinner.” Lydia smiled, “So, is this an actual date or just two friends hanging out?” she asked. Trevor said, “Would you like it to be a date?” Lydia blushed so red, “I’ll let you know once it’s over.” Trevor nodded and opened the door for her. Lydia said, “Thanks, who knew there were gentlemen out here anymore.” Trevor replied, “You’re welcome and my parents raised me right.” Lydia smiled and was getting more anxious about what he has planned for the evening.
