Chapter Five

Then before I went out of her office a text came to my cellphone. ‘Where are you, you’re making me worried sick?’ So I texted back. ‘Be with you in a sec. See you at the main door, by the stairs.’ So I went out of Miss Stevens’ office and went to the main door where Khrystel was waiting for me. “Where have you been, I have been roaming around looking for you?” “Sorry. I had to go to Miss Stevens.” “The counselor? Oh, that’s why you didn’t have a phone signal.” “What do you mean?” “I have been calling you for ages. Your phone seems to be turned off.” “But it was on?” “Yeah, but her office is a dead spot.” “How did you know?” “Remember you guys were looking for me yesterday, I was there.” “Why did you go to her?” “I was asking about your situation.” “And that’s where you got the idea for me to transfer?” “Yeah, but I guess, Amber and I can’t cope up with what’s after that.” “I don’t want to be away with you guys as well.” “So, what are you going to do?” “I will go on a diet and start to exercise.” “Great! Let me join you with the exercise.” “Wow! Can we jog on Saturday?” “You bet!” “Thanks.” We walked faster and in no time, we were already at Khrystel’s house. “Bye, girl. See you tomorrow.” “Bye, Olivia.” And she went inside her house and I walked towards the home. When I came into the house, dad was already there with my mom. “Oh hi, my princess.” “Hi dad, you’re early today.” And I placed my bag and books in the living room and went back to the kitchen to join my parents. As I sat on the stool and picked an apple to munch. “Yup, I closed the clinic early.” “Oh, what are we having tonight?” “Chicken casserole.” “Oh, I like that.” “Guess what?” “What, dad?” My dad and my mom came closer to me, my dad sat on a stool, while my mom stood beside him, placing her hand on his shoulder. “I went to this music school, and we, your mom and I would like you to have voice lessons every Saturday. How’s that?” My eyes popped and my face filled with joy as I jumped off my seat and embraced them both. “Wow, thank you! Thank you so much mom, dad. I love you.” “We love you too.” And I embraced my mom. “Thanks, mom.” “I don’t want to be jealous, but me too.” “Of course dad. I love you both so much.” “Khrystel promised to join me on my Saturday jogs. What time will my lessons be?” “There are two slots left. That’s 10 in the morning and four in the afternoon.” “What do you think is the best time dad?” “When is your voice better, morning or in the afternoon?” “Afternoon.” “Okay, I will call them tomorrow so you can start on Saturday.” “Wait, where is that?” “Mom and I will accompany you, leave you while we date by the park” “I like that. So I jog in the morning and have my voice lesson in the afternoon.” “Cool, right.” “Thanks, dad.” And I hugged him again as mom placed the food on the table. We usually eat early because mom and dad rest early so we can all rise early as well. Dad brings mom to her office before he goes to his clinic. His patients at a time come as early as eight in the morning. He’s good orthodontics that parents trust him through word of mouth. We ate while we laughed at dad’s jokes and bloopers. “There was a funny incident this morning in the clinic.” Mom and I looked at him while smiling. “A grandma came for a false teeth fix. Before she can tell me why she came, her false teeth fell. I told her ‘I know why you came today.’ And we both laughed.” Then we all laughed. I can imagine how my dad and that grandma laughed in his clinic. As the night ends, I slept smiling thinking of my Saturday schedules. The next morning, while Khrystel and I were walking towards the school, we saw that scumbag Michael Brown driving his car going to school. We were far behind him because he was in his car while we walked. Then he stood leaning on his car when we came past the Parking lot towards the main door. He was about to approach us, but Khrystel shot a very stern look at him that he shunned away as we entered the building.
