slipping into the Abyss
Stephanie's point of view. The birds chirping loudly and the morning sun blazing down on the body laid beside the river bank. The sun was reflecting directly on her making her eyes flutter Open. She groaned, scratched her eye lid before sitting down. “What happened to me?” She groaned as she tried to stand up but her wobbly legs felt reluctant. She looked down on her legs and saw the cuts on them, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “What happened to me? What is all this?” She questioned herself further as she reached for the bruises on her legs. Immediately her hands brushed the tiny cuts, she felt a sharp sting that sent shivers to her spine and goosebumps arousing immediately. Stephanie looked up to her surroundings and was more perplexed as she couldn't remember how she ended up in a forest. The last thing she remembered was hearing the beeping of the heart monitor in the hospital before passing out. The forest was Dense and the sun was struggling to shine its glory. “Where am I? How did I get here?” She let on as she managed to push herself up with the little strength she had. The river Waves caught her attention and she walked towards it, her legs felt numb that she couldn't feel the grass brushing under her barefoot. As soon as she reached the river, she knelt down and scooped up water with her hands and gulped it down. The salty water quenched her dry throat and she let out a loud satisfactory groan. Stephanie bent over to have another scoop when she realised her reflection. Her reflection caught her off guard as she jolted backwards falling on her butt. “What, what was that?” She said in a shaking voice. Her whole body trembling at the revelation of the reflection. She got up and walked closer to have a peep again. The reflection was still the same. “This isn't me. Who is this?” She questioned, analysing the face before her. Her breath was heavy and stuffy as she inhaled. “What? Who? What is the meaning of this?” She continued with the rhetorical question. Her reflection was that of a girl in her twenties, same as her but, with very unique features. She had red hair, freckles scattered all around her face not to mention her small petite shape. “This isn't me. How can it be? I never looked like this” Stephanie said as she began to break down. “If I can remember clearly. I had a black hair, I wasn't as fair as this? Who's body is it and why am I in control of it” she was still saying then paused as a flash of memory floods her mind. Flash back. “Doctor, doctor. She's in labour, but her water broke” Stella spoke in a haste as she pushed the wheelchair to a ward. The doctor took one look at Stephanie and dropped his notebook, ordering a nurse to follow him. “Don't worry, we'll take it from here. Meanwhile, we would like you to call Mr Thane concerning this” he said and Stella stood frozen. “He won't answer the phone” she said abruptly and the doctor made a sharp turn. “What do you mean? We need his consent to operate on his wife. Please make a call across” the doctor implores but Stella, Stephanie's personal maid, maintains her position. “He wouldn't pick the call. Please just take care of her, I'll find a way to get through to him” Stella said, trying to convince the doctor but he remained adamant. “I don't think you understand Ms. We follow a strict policy here and….” Before he could finish Stephanie let out a dry cough. This drew their attention to her, her eyes were drippy, and she seemed to be in great pain. “Doctor..” Stephanie began in a whisper “the alpha is very busy. Please just get this thing out of me” she pleaded. The male doctor sucked in a deep breath before speaking up “I am very sorry Ms Thane. We cannot do anything about it” he let out and proceeded to leave the ward, leaving only Stella and Stephanie alone. Stella quickly went to Stephanie's bed and sat beside her “it'll be okay. I promise. I know he would answer…” before she finishes, Stephanie interrupted her, raising her hands in the air. “He wouldn't. Liam has never cared not even once for me” tears already rolling down her eyes. “Don't say that Steph, I'll try to reach Fiona again. The last time she didn't let me finish before ending the call” as she was about to place another call on Fiona, the television news popped up and drew their attention. The news was talking about a successful businessman who just opened another branch business… “Isn't that the Alpha? And who's that lady beside him?” Stella let out a confused question, not acknowledging Stephanie’s plight. Stephanie was in grave shock. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. Stephanie was in labour in need of her husband and there he was, having a good time with another woman. The sight of seeing Liam and her pained Stephanie to the core that it sent a sharp pain to her chest, directly to her heart as she felt betrayed and heartbroken. she let out a yelp clenching her chest with her hands. The throbbing pain in her stomach also added to her anguish and she found herself crying and letting out an ear deafening scream. Stella was trying her best to calm her down and calling the doctor but to no avail. The pain only increased as Stephanie watched Liam kiss the woman on television. Stephanie was still screaming for what felt like forever before the doctors barged into the ward to help her but her eyes had become droopy and dizzy, so that she could barely see anyone, she felt like she was drowning in water, struggling to stay afloat while the water was filling her lungs. Then, Her subconscious began panicking as she thought of slipping to an early grave at twenty. “Is this how I'll end my life? Will I be happy in the new world I'm crossing too? What did I make of this world to begin with? I thought I could have a better life here if I had found the right mate who would love and cherish me but what was it all for? I have never been loved, not by anyone. Not by my mom, my dad , even the person I loved the most doesn't care about me. I should just go” the thought ramped in her mind as the doctors were trying their best to keep her alive. Stephanie knew her time was up and she was ready to let it go but at a second sound of her baby, she had a change of plan. “No, I don't want to go like that. I want a life where I would avenge myself and watch my child grow up. I would allow My child to grow up with a heartless beast calling themselves the Alpha. And so, moon goddess I beseech you, give a life which I'll avenge those who'd wronged me. A life where I would be able to slay those who hurt me, and a life where I'll take care of my child. I don't want to live a mundane life, I want to avenge my death” and with that she slipped to the abyss of no return, a stray of tear lingered in her eyelid.
