The ghosts of Stoney

Kenmey was coming back from a regular day at the office when she had forgotten to pick up dinner for her paranoid parents who refuse to ever leave the apartment expecting for work. She arrives home where they ask her if she brought food with her on the way home and she replies “I didn’t know it was my night, very busy day at the office today .” Her parents both have an irritated look on their faces, their eyes like daggers. Her mother replies “ If you’re so busy all the time you might as well move out you never do anything around here.” I thought to myself maybe if you would just communicate with me instead of just expecting me to read your mind then maybe we wouldn’t fight like this. “Fine” I replied then added “I have some work to do in the field anyways so yeah I will just move out and never return since I’m so difficult to live with.” She then packs her bag and calls her boss explaining everything and requesting to use a camper to go to the scene of the old town till she gets a place bought and built; which he agrees and sends her on her way. She’ drives for five hours and comes upon a gas station where she fills her tank back up then goes in to buy some snacks. The man behind the counter asks her where she is going and she replies “ I’m headed to Stoney, it’s around here right?” He scratches his neck then says “why in the world would you ever want to go there?” She thinks to herself for a moment on how to explain her mission without giving herself away, she has heard that if the spirits hear you coming they will kill you. She replies “well I am here to study the buildings and structures to see if we can make It just how it used to be.”
