I knock on Zander’s door three days after he told me everything. He opens it warily, his eyes rimmed red. His face crumbles as soon as he sees me, and I hold him in my arms. I pull his face and press our mouths together.
I thought I needed more time to think, to understand. But just like what they say, it’s not that deep. We’re all just humans who make mistakes. To ourselves, to others.
Once out of breath, we press our foreheads together. “It was you. That’s what matters. It was you all along.”
He nods. “Yes. It was me. All me.”
