Blurb

Alice is a teenage girl struggling with her school work and home life. She has an inconsiderate and immature elder brother who refuses to offer any help to her newly single, divorced mother. She silently battles with her depression and anxiety while putting a smile on her face for everyone around her and fills the role of her mom as she grieves the absence of her husband. Even though she puts on a mask in front of people, she longs for someone she can trust to comfort her, and to show her the exciting part of life. To share the unique adventure of romance with just a little bit of drama and a lot of love. All she wants to do is bring her grades up and to graduate highschool with a scholarship in tow, hopefully with a boyfriend by her side.

Hot Jerk
Alice's POV "Ugh!!! For once in my life, can you please just work for me!?" This has got to be the worst morning ever. One, it's the first day of my senior year. Two, I did NOT sleep well at all last night, which means I'm in a worse mood than I'm normally in because I am so not a morning person. Three, my phone wasn't plugged in all the way so it was on 1% when I woke up BEFORE my alarm, because Heaven forbid I actually get to sleep. Four, my old truck refuses to start...and I'm late because I had to re-dry my clothes as they were still damp in the dryer from last night. Therefore, I am now on the verge of breaking down as tears pricked my eyes. bzzzzz....bzzzzz....bzzzzz... I sighed as I pulled out my phone from my back pocket, "Hello?" I answered the phone without looking at the caller ID. "Girl, where the heck are you!? I'm standing here all alone like a weirdo and class is about to start!" I chuckled, "You're weird whether you're standing or walking, and especially talking. And I know, my stupid truck won't start." I emphasize my feelings by hitting my fist against the steering wheel. "Oh, ha-ha, your so very funny." I could tell by Carrie's sarcasm laced voice that she rolled her eyes. Carrie is one of my closest friends. My best friend moved away a couple months ago, around the same time my parents split up so the move was harder than it should've been. "I am actually, thank you. But I know nothing about auto-repairs or whatever and I live too far from school to walk." Carrie sighed, "Okay, you know what? I'm coming to get you. Your late, I'm late." "No Carrie, you can't do that. I'll just skip today, it's the first day of school, we're not doing any work." "Which is why it's okay to be late. And don't argue with me, I'm already on my way." I sighed, "Thanks Care-Bear, I owe you." "Yes, you do actually. So make it up to me by buying me food." I laughed, "Will do, I'll see you in a bit." "Okay, bye." We hung up the phone. I stared at the blank screen as my smile slowly died as I thought about what she said "So make it up to me by buying me food." I sighed to myself because I barely had enough money to get my own food. 20 minutes later Carrie showed up. I climbed out of my truck and into her small car. "Thank you so much Care-Bear, I really appreciate it." Carrie smiles at me, "No problem baby girl, now buckle up." I immediately complied when I saw the glint in her eyes and braced myself as she sped down the road. "You do know that if we get pulled over we're going to be more late than if we drive the actual speed limit, right?" I put one of my hands on the door handle and the other on the console, squeezing my fingers until they turn white. Carrie rolled her eyes, "Will you chill out, your making me nervous." I laughed, "I'M making YOU nervous!? You just ran a stop sign!!!" I should've stayed home, I forgot how much of a maniac she could be when behind the wheel. Carrie took a sharp left as we pulled into the school, and in the process almost flipped us. As soon as she parked, I jumped out and took my bookbag with me. I slammed the car door shut and sped walked to the front of the school, not waiting on Carrie. "Hey, wait up!!" I heard the clicks of Carrie's high heels on the concrete. I laughed but slowed my pace. She caught up to me just before I reached for the door handle that leads into the school lobby. Right as I placed my hand on the handle, the door swung open and knocked me on my butt. A guy walked out and didn't even glance at me. "Hey!! What's your problem!?" I yelled after him and the only response I received was a middle finger held up in the air. All I could do was gap at him. Carrie scoffed and helped me up, "What a jerk." When we walked into the school, before the door shut, I couldn't help but take a second glance at the rude stranger. Mmm, he's a hot jerk though. My eyes widen and a red tint fills my cheeks. Nope, just a jerk. Totally not hot at all. I took a deep breath and followed Carrie to first period.
