Chapter 1: Alpha Refused to Heal Her Blindness
Chapter 1: Alpha Refused to Heal Her Blindness
(Seraphina's POV)
A breathless laugh escaped me as Damien drew me toward the bed, his deep chuckle resonating through his chest like distant thunder.
The scent of pine and wild musk enveloped me completely, setting my pulse racing.
Another night of burning desire awaited us.
Damien and I made love every night. We were obsessed with each other's bodies.
His wolf tore open my flowing dress, exposing my body to the somewhat cold air. But his warm lips quickly covered it, from my throat, across my collarbone, to my chest, and then all the way down, trailing fire with every touch.
Heat pooled low in my belly as desire coursed through my veins like liquid flame.
"Look. You're absolutely breathtaking, Sera," his voice was rough with want.
I couldn't see.
A serious car accident three years ago caused me to lose my sight. But fortunately, I had seen Damien before I became blind.
My fingers served as my eyes, tracing the sharp line of his jaw, the fullness of his lips, mapping the planes of his chest and the ridged muscles of his abdomen. In the darkness, I could paint his beauty from memory and touch.
His hardness pressed against mine with barely restrained hunger, every muscle taut with the effort of holding back his wolf's wild nature.
"I love you, Sera," he said, thrusting hard into me. "I will always love you."
I moaned sweetly, feeling him pounding inside me, hard and wild. Even though I couldn't see it, I could feel his fervent desire for me.
"I want us to have a pup, Sera," he murmured breathlessly against my ear, his voice thick with longing and hope.
I was lost in the overwhelming tide of his love.
When I woke up, I found myself in Blackwater Central Infirmary.
I was very familiar with this ward, as I have often been treated here in the past. The smell of disinfectant was everywhere, and the humming sound of medical equipment could be heard in the silent space.
My memory slowly came back to me, and I recalled that during the intense s*x with Damien, I suddenly felt a sharp pain and then lost consciousness.
I still felt a slight pain in my lower abdomen. I didn’t know what happened to me. Nobody was in this ward, even Damien. I felt a little insecure. But luckily I quickly found my ash wood cane, a mating gift from Damien.
Outside the ward, Jenna's voice carried through the thin walls. The young omega healer's aide was gossiping with other aides.
"Alpha Damien is so devoted to his mate," Jenna whispered to another healing aide near the door. "Did you see how he carried her in? So gentle, like she might break."
The other aide giggled softly. "Remember three years ago? When Marcus Valerius publicly rejected her after she lost her sight? Everyone thought she was finished."
"But Alpha Damien stepped forward immediately," Jenna continued, her voice full of admiration. "He claimed her as his mate right there in front of everyone. Saved her from complete disgrace."
"Alpha Damien has been so protective ever since," the aide added. "Never lets her out of his sight. Such a devoted Alpha."
Their words triggered memories that made me feel both bitter and sweet.
I was engaged to Marcus when I was still young. Marcus was the heir of the previous Alpha, and we grew up together.
But Marcus started to distance himself from me after it was discovered that I was not Beta's biological daughter. After the car accident that took away my eyesight, he publicly broke off our engagement, even though I was still in the hospital.
It was the darkest moment in my life. I lost my eyesight, my career as a gifted healer, and my fiancé.
In my moment of despair, Damien showed up like a hero.
He told me that he had loved me since the first sight.
He spent millions of dollars on the finest healing herbs to save my life, and searched for the most powerful healers to perform a healing ritual for me to heal my eyes.
The damage to my eye was too severe to be healed. Even though I have great healing powers, I cannot heal myself too.
However, Damien had given so much to me, and I was deeply moved.
After I recovered, I experienced my first shift, finding out that my fated mate was actually Damien. I accepted the gift from the Moon Goddess and mated with Damien, with overwhelming happiness.
It was Damien who had saved me. He had been my knight, my salvation, my everything. I was reborn.
I heard the other aide’s voice. “Don’t forget that Alpha Damien was not Alpha at first. Six months after mating with Seraphina, he defeated Marcus and became the next Alpha, defying all expectations. He was chosen by the Moon Goddess herself to lead the Crimson Peak Pack.”
“Yepp. Seraphina went from a discarded blind wolf to Luna. Every she-wolf in the territory envies her.” Jenna continued excitedly. "What kind of she-wolf would have such good luck?"
What they said was true.
It was really a surprise that Damien could become the Alpha, which brought lots of opposition and criticism to me. Some of the werewolves thought I was blind and couldn't fulfill my duties as Luna. Others thought I was too weak to help the pack become stronger.
However, Damien ignored that rumors and never left me. Instead, he took good care of me. He even helped me dress, fed me, and when I wanted to drink water, he would personally hand me the cup. He protected me from everything. I hardly had to do anything.
Just as the two aides said, I was so lucky. Sometimes I couldn’t believe it was real. How lucky was I to have Damien as my fated mate.
I must be the happiest she-wolf in the world.
After only a short separation, I began to miss Damien. I picked up my cane and groped my way out.
I tried to find where Damien was, and suddenly my enhanced hearing, sharpened by three years of blindness, picked up familiar voices from a nearby office.
One of them was Dr. Finch Alistair, a good friend of Damien. He had been treating me since I lost my sight in that terrible accident. I had no doubt about what he said.
"Seraphina and the pup are safe temporarily," Dr. Finch was saying. "But they're still vulnerable. She needs more care."
The PUP?
I was sure I had heard it right. The pup.
I was pregnant. It was unbelievable that I was pregnant.
Damien had a secret. He was almost infertile. We'd tried countless treatments, even ancient werewolf rituals, but nothing had worked.
Ecstasy overwhelmed me, and I almost screamed.
I couldn’t control myself to imagine how happy Damien was.
I almost wanted to rush in and share the good news with Damien.
But Damien’s response was muffled, almost indifferent, which was beyond my expectation.
“All right.” Damien said. “Thank you.”
I was confused. Wasn’t Damien happy for this news? Why did I feel like he's in a heavy mood?
What Dr. Finch said made me feel more weird.
"You need to arrange an eye transplant for Seraphina," Dr. Finch urged. "If she remains blind, she might injure herself and the unborn pup."
An eye transplant.
It was not a novel term.
I had consulted Dr. Finch for many times about its possibility, with Damien accompanying me.
“Impossible.” Every time Dr. Finch stressed to me. “You are too injured to receive a transplant.”
But if eye transplant was impossible, why he suggested this to Damien now?
Was he deceiving me in the past?
My fingers tightened around the cane until my knuckles went white.
And then, I clearly heard Damien’s voice ---
"No."
There must be something wrong with my hearing. I tried to persuade myself.
But Damien confirmed what he just said.
"Absolutely not."
My world began to tilt beneath my feet.
"But Damien—" Dr. Finch tried again.
Damien's voice was firm, final. "I said no, Alistair."
His cruel words shattered my world.
Damien refused Dr.Finch’s suggestion. I didn’t know why. Didn't he want me to see again? Didn't he want me to see our pup's face?
My hands on the cane trembled uncontrollably. Through the thin door, I heard the rustle of fabric, the soft scrape of a chair. Damien's scent carried to me - that familiar mixture of pine and musk. I heard him reach for something, then stop.
"Can't smoke in a hospital," he muttered.
Dr. Finch's voice grew heavy with resignation.
"Damien, I can't keep this secret for you anymore. ”
