Chapter Thirteen

Enzo’s POV

By the time I got back inside, my mom, dad, Zeke, Colton, and Elder Stewart were in the living room talking.

“How is she?” My father asked.

I put my hand to the bridge of my nose and took a deep breath.

“Honestly, I don’t know, Rae and Everleigh showed up and are watching her now. I told her to stay outside until I got there and got her, but she didn’t listen.” I spoke.

“Son, we are so sorry this is happening. She will need us all now more than ever. If we need to step up the next couple of days or weeks, we don’t mind.” My father said to me as he came over and pulled me in a hug. I started to break down.

“It killed me to see her like that. I can’t stand to see her angry and in pain. I don’t know what to do. How did this even happen in space? We must have a traitor.” I growled with those last words.

“I’m not sure, but we will do everything we can to figure this out,” Elder Stewart said.

“I’ve already bagged up the hair we found in her hand and sent it off,” Zeke whispered.

“If this person has killed her mom, she may be next. She needs to be heavily guarded until we find this person.” Mom replied.

“I couldn’t agree more, I need to tell you guys something no one knows but me about her family,” Rae said, walking in.

I whipped my head around, “who’s watching Sterling?” I shouted.

“Dr. Sneed and Everleigh took her to the pack hospital to keep her sedated the rest of the night.” She answered.

“Let’s go to my office, there are too many ears,” I spoke.

We all walked out to the SUVs and got in. My mom, dad, and I were in one and everyone else got in the other. We all rode in silence all the way back to the packhouse. Once we got there, I had my mom, dad, Elder Stewart, and Rae come to my office. Once the door was shut and locked, I turned to them and walked around to my desk. I sat down and took a deep breath.

“Please tell us what you meant.” I said to Rae.

“Well, have you guys ever noticed how Sterling avoids the topic of his dad or tells his mom to stop?” She asked.

“Now that I think of it, I remember that day in the hospital when she did that,” I said.

“Well, Sterling was never happy that he was her father. When she was younger, he would beat her. Casandra used to overlook it until one day he knocked her out and it took a while for her to wake back up. Casandra rejected him on that spot that day. He was not happy since he left his pack to go there. I know it's not traditional, but he didn’t want them in his pack, so he said. Anyways, he swore on that day he would be back for her, and he would finish what he should have done a long time ago. He beat the crap out of Casandra that day and told her that he never loved her and regretted ever having given her a pup and that he would find them and kill them both since he couldn’t have them. Sterling didn’t like his father. His mom always held out hope that he would come back and change his mind. She did reject him for Sterling’s safety, but she loved him and was still in love with him. “Rae said.

“Wait, how did no one know about any of this?” My mother asked.

“She would pull Sterling from school when the bruises were bad enough that she couldn’t hide them. The time she and Sterling were both beaten, she took personal time off and home-schooled Sterling during that time. My mom would make them food and leave it on the doorstep for them. She didn’t come out of the house until they were both completely healed,” Rae said while sobbing.

“What about her father? How did he leave?” I asked.

“He came to me one day and asked to be released from the pack. He said he missed home and his mate rejected him and he had no reason to stay. I released him that day and wished him good luck. I didn’t know whether he had a daughter or was Casandra’s mate. I didn’t release many pack members while I was Alpha. Only two and one was a female." My father lowered his head into his hands. My mom walked to his side and was trying to calm him down.

“What pack did he come from? Did she ever say? Why would he leave his pack to come to hers and that doesn’t add up?” Elder Stewart chimed in.

“She never said what pack he came from; she did say he was ranked and stepped away from her. I know none of this adds up. I only know what they told my mother and me, since my mother is no longer alive. I knew once you told me Casandra had been murdered, I had to tell you guys even though I promised Sterling I would never speak of it.” She started to cry even harder,

“Well, now we need to figure out if he did come back, how he got in,” Elder Stewart said.

“Well, if he had ranked blood so does Sterling, we need to do a blood test on her and see. This may answer why her wolf looks the way it does and how she couldn’t be controlled earlier.” My father answered.

“This conversation is to never leave this room. That is an order!” I boomed.

“Yes, Alpha.” Everyone said.

“I am going to see my girl and be there when she wakes up. If nobody has any information at all, mind link me privately. I don’t want to worry about Sterling about his father yet, just in case it’s not him.” I said, standing up.

Everyone walked out the door and I followed and locked my door behind me. I walked towards the pack Hospital, and I was following her smell. She was in the same room as last time. I turned the corner and stood in the door frame, just staring at her doorstep. It was so beautiful.

“Alpha, she will be fine, she should wake up soon, she will need you and the rest of your family right now more than ever.” He spoke.

I nodded my head and walked in and sat beside her at first. I picked her up and crawled into bed with her and wrapped her in my arms, hoping my scent would help. I could feel her sleeping. I listened to it and slowly drifted asleep.

Sterling’s POV

I felt a pair of arms around me, sparks were all over my body. Enzo is holding me; everything last night was a blur. The last thing I remember was running into my house and then finding my mother dead. Oh, my Goddess, my mother is dead. I started to panic. I was hoping it was a dream.

“Sterling, I’m right here, we will be okay, I promise. I’m so sorry this happened to you.” Sapphire said to me.

“Thank you, Sapphire, I’m sorry I reacted the way I did.” I said while I felt my eyes tearing up.

“When you are hurt, I’m hurt. We are one remember, I’m always here.” She said softly. I smiled a little,

“Baby, are you okay? were you just talking with Sapphire just then?” Enzo said, pulling away to look at me.

“I thought it was a dream, Enzo. I woke up, and then the memories flooded into my head. I don’t understand why this would happen.” I whispered.

“We are trying to figure that out as well. I do need to talk to you about something. Rae told me everything, she also told us something that I think even you don’t know. She told us everything about your dad and what happened when you were younger. She told us that your mother had told her that your father was a ranked member of his pack and that he had left.” He spoke.

“Damn it, she wasn’t supposed to say anything. Wait, what do you mean ranked? I thought he was just an omega.” I answered him.

“I don’t know what it means, but if you would like, we can do a blood test and find out. Also, she told us that her mom had been murdered. She felt it was important for her, so don’t be mad at her. This may help us figure out a lot about your wolf and what happened to her” he said, caressing my cheek. My head is starting to hurt just thinking about everything. I feel so overwhelmed.

“What do you think we should do?” I asked Sapphire.

“I think we should do the test and find out what’s the worst thing that could happen? Enzo is right. He could answer a lot of questions,” she replied.

“I will do it.” I answered him.

“Do you know anything about what happened to my mom?” I questioned.

“There was some hair we found in her hand, we sent it off to figure out the DNA.. That should be back today sometime. That will help us figure out who attacked and killed her.” He spoke.

My heart was breaking thinking about what happened to her. I know her, and I did not have the best relationship, but I still loved her. I was not supposed to lose her this soon, I cannot get the image of her on the ground out of my head.

"Dr. Sneed should be there in just a moment to get some blood for the baby test.” Enzo said, kissing my forehead. I nodded my head; I felt so numb.

“Hello sterling, I am here to do your blood test. Are you ready?” Dr. Sneed answered.

“Yes, I am,” I replied. He pushed the needle in and took two vials of blood, he pulled the needle out and wiped my arm.

“It will take an hour at most to get these results back. Once I have them, I will come to find you guys.” He said and bowed his head and walked out.

“Are you ready to leave?” Enzo asked me.

“Yes, please. I hate being in hospitals.” I huffed.

We got up and walked out. Fortunately, we didn’t have discharge papers since I was never admitted. We walked out of the hospital and up towards our room. I wanted to walk down the stairs to just think. We got right in front of his office,

“Baby, my parents, Lacie, your friends, Zeke, and Colton are in this room. They would like to see you if you are up to it,” he said, while turning towards me.

I don’t know if I’m ready. I also don’t want to be alone during this either. Enzo’s parents are the only parents I have now. I know I need my family and friends to help me.

“Yes, I think it's okay.” I hesitated.

“Are you sure? No one is going to be upset if you decide you're not ready,” he replied.

I nodded, “I just don’t want to be tackled with hugs, I don’t want to cry.” I answered.

His eyes clouded over; I knew he was linking them, telling them not to hug me. Once he was done, he grabbed the handle and opened the door. We both walked in. He and I both walked over to his desk, he sat down and pulled me into his lap.

“Sterling, honey, we are so sorry about what happened.” Julie said while trying not to cry.

I could tell she was hurting me, “It’s not your fault, it’s no one’s fault who is in this room. We will catch the person who did this and kill them.” I said while trying to be strong.

“When you are ready, we will have a service to honor your mother, only when you are ready though,” Stark said.

“I don’t think I can plan it, I jus-“I started to speak,

“Don’t worry about a thing, we will handle it if you would like us to,” Julie said, as Everleigh and Rae nodded.

“I would like that a lot, thank you.” I answered her.

“Alpha, Dr. Sneed wants to know if he can enter,” Zeke said.

“Yes, however, Lacie and Everleigh you will need to step out, I’m sorry,” he replied.

They both bowed their heads and stepped out of the office, while Dr. Sneed stepped in.

“Alpha, Luna”. He bowed his head to us.

“Please have a seat,” Enzo pointed to the couch.

“I was just coming to tell you that Sterling’s results are back,” he answered. He looked nervous.

“Well, what are the results?” I blurted out.

“I ran them twice to be sure, but you have Alpha blood Luna.” Dr. Sneed said.

“WHAT?! Are you sure?” I stood at my feet growling.

“Yes Luna, I ran it twice.” He answered me.

“Well, this does make sense now,” Elder Stewart said.

“What do you mean?” I asked him.

“Well, your wolf is differently documented. I’ve never heard of a wolf having three different eye colors and no white wolves have been documented in over 200 years.” He replied.

“Plus, I commanded you to do a couple of things and you didn’t listen enough, though you are my equal, it should still have phased you.” Enzo chimed in.

“Sapphire, did you know this? Did you know about any of this?” I asked her.

“I did know that we were different, but I didn’t know that we had Alpha blood in our veins. It does make sense of what they are saying though. Remember when Enzo told you to stay outside and you didn’t? He didn’t ask you? He commanded you.” She said to me.

I don’t know what to think, I can’t believe “I was being lied to this entire time and my mother knew. She. She had lied to me my entire life. How could she do that to me? I trusted her, and she lied to me.” I started to shout.

“Baby, I’m sure she had a good reason.” Enzo said, pulling me into a hug. I broke down and started to sob.

“I am done talking, I want to go lay down please.” I said in his chest.

“Anything you would like, my love. Excuse us everyone, she and I are going to go lay down. None of this conversation is to leave this room. That is an order,” he replied.

“Yes, Alpha.” They all said back.

We both walked out of the room, and I walked a couple of feet down the hall. I felt my legs collapse from under me. I just sat there for a moment crying. Enzo picked me up and started towards our room. I wrapped my arms around his neck, he opened our door.

“Stand right here baby and I’ll get you one of my shirts.” he said, setting me down in front of the bed, as he turned towards the closet.

He came out of the closet in his boxers, he walked over to me and helped me take my clothes off. He slipped his shirt over my head, and we climbed into bed. He wrapped his arms around me, and I put my chest in his and was breathing in his scent. It helped calm me. I slowly drifted off into sleep.

Enzo’s POV

She fell asleep in my arms crying. I hate to see her hurt. I cannot even begin thinking about how she feels. First she experienced Ariel and her nonsense, then her car got vandalized. She ends up having another encounter with Ariel again and she ends up punching her. Now, the same day she becomes Luna, her mother is murdered, and she sees her body. Then, the day after, she finds out she has alpha blood; it has been a crazy two weeks. I wish there was something I could do to take her pain away.

“Alpha, we have figured out who the hair belongs to and who destroyed her car.” Zeke's mind linked me.

“I’ll meet you in my office in a few days” I responded back.

“Sterling baby, do you want to stay in bed or would you like to come to my office with me? I found out some information.” I said while I moved her hair out of her face.

“Mhm, I’ll go.” She mumbled.

I laughed a little, she is not a morning person at all. She stretched out, rolled out of bed and went to the bathroom to brush her teeth. I followed behind her and did the same.

“We will shower when we get back, okay?” I said to her.

“Sounds good,” she replied.

We walked down the hall and to my office. I opened the door and locked it, since Zeke and Colton were already there. We went over to the couches and sat down,

“So, what did you find out?” I asked.

“We checked her car for fingerprints, and we found a match of two people. We were lucky since the hospital has the fingerprints and DNA of everyone in the pack,” Colton answered.

“The first person was Ariel, and the next person was Everleigh,” Zeke answered.

“ARE YOU SURE?!” Sterling was yelling with her Luna tone or was it her Alpha tone?

“Yes Luna, I had Dr. O’Conner looked at it twice, since she is the one that was on that stuff. I also ordered her to not tell anyone else,” Zeke replied.

“Once this conversation is done you will bring them in, you will tell Ariel the Alpha wants to talk to her in private without me. You will tell Everleigh that I asked for her to be at my side right now. That way they don’t know we are on to them.” Sterling said before I could even answer. Damn, she was sexy when she took charge. I couldn’t wait to get her alone. I could feel myself getting hard,

“What about the hair follicles?” I asked them.

“It was indeed Chad Verlice, and you are not going to believe this, but Ariel as well.” Colton spoke up.

“How did he get into space? Why come back now, after all these years?” Sterling questioned.

“I don’t know but we will figure this out, as of right now. Let’s handle the two we know. Zeke, if you go get Everleigh and Colton, if you go get Ariel, Zeke, I want you to go now and Colton, I would like you to go in 10 minutes to get Ariel.” I demanded.

“Yes Alpha”, they bowed their heads and walked out.

“I can’t believe that Everleigh would do this.” Sterling was pacing back and forth.

“I don’t understand either, but I feel like there is more to this story than we both think.” I answered her.

“What are we going to do with her and Ariel?” she asked.

“Well, Everleigh committed a crime but she didn’t break the law, so there will be two weeks in the dungeon with only water. Ariel broke one of our pack laws that is punishable by death.” I answered her.

“I want Rae in here so she can hear how she betrayed us both.” She demanded.

“I don’t know if that is a good idea,” I replied.

“I wasn’t asking, I was telling you.” Her eyes clouded over and then there was a knock on the door. Her eyes returned to normal but were black with anger. Onyx was ready to come out himself, “I walked over to the door and saw Rae.

“ Luna asked me to come to your office, Alpha. She said there was something important I needed to hear.” She said to me.

I huffed, “Yes, come in. You need to go sit in that corner on the other side of my bed and don’t move until told otherwise.” I ordered her.

“Yes Alpha,” she walked past me and into the corner and sat on the floor. No one could see her this way and she could hear everything.

“I need you to stay quiet while you are over there. I don’t want this person to know that you are here. Do you understand”, Sterling used her Luna tone.

“Yes, Luna, I understand” Rae answered.

We stood there for a moment and we were trying to calm our nerves, just then there was a knock on the door.

“I have Everleigh here.” Zeke mined linked me. I nodded to Sterling. I went and stood behind the door, and she walked over to it and opened it.

“Everleigh, thank you so much for coming. I really needed a friend and Rae is off doing something.” She answered.

“Anything for you girl, you know that.” She walks in and shuts the door and Everleigh jumped when she saw me.

“I didn’t know you were going to be here, Alpha,” she bowed her head.

“Yeah, Sterling had asked me to come down, she wanted to go over the memorial stuff and wanted me by her side. My mom should be here in a minute or two.” I lied.

“I would be honored to help you” she turned toward Sterling. All three of us walked over to the couches.

“I was thinking that we should have it outside near the lake since we used to always go when I was younger. It was her favorite spot.” Sterling started the conversation. I could tell she was trying hard to keep her cool.

“I think that is a great idea. What do you want flower-wise?” she answered her.

“I keep going back and forth on that, you see. I know she loved sunflowers and lilies. It’s just hard to think about all of the details.” She pretended to get choked up.

I pulled her over onto my chest and placed her head out of Everleigh’s sight. She was crying, but she was crying from anger. She took a few deep breathes of my scent and pulled back.

“Alpha, Ariel is very eager to see you.” Colton's mind linked me.

“Excuse me girls, I’m going to get to the door if you don’t mind pausing the conversation until my mom comes in.” I said to them both.

They nodded. I went over to the door and took a deep breath. I opened it just enough to where she could only see me.

“Please come in. I pushed the door open and had my body blocked, Sterling and Everleigh. Zeke walked in first and then Ariel's eyes grew big when she saw Sterling and Everleigh on the couch. She tried to turn and run out of my office, but Colton grabbed her by her neck and threw her back in. She fell to the ground gasping for air. Normally, I’m not the type to treat women this way, but she deserved it. I mind-linked my parents to bringing Elder Stewart so he could sign Ariel's execution order. Ariel was getting up,

“What is the meaning of this? I was told you wanted to speak to me privately.” She was yelling at me.

“Well, you were told wrong. Now go sit down and shut up.” I boomed in my Alpha tone.

There was another knock on the door, and it was my parents and Elder Stewart. They walked into my office and stood by my desk. Everleigh looked very uncomfortable along with Ariel.

“What is going on son?” My father sounded confused.

“Well, father, you see these two pack members were brought in here for a reason. Everleigh and Ariel are the ones who destroyed Sterling’s car and, to top that, all of Ariel’s hair was in Casandra’s hand when we found her the other night.” I answered him. I knew all hell was about to break loose and I was ready.
