Chapter Fourteen

Sterling’s POV

“They are lying, I would never do that to you!” Everleigh was screaming.

“Sit down and shut the f*ck up, there is proof. They found your fingerprints and Ariel’s all over my car. I’m not your f*cking Luna, huh? I am a w***e? Did you really think that we wouldn’t look into who did that?” I shouted at her.

“I thought you didn’t like Ariel. Why did you do that with her?” Enzo asked her.

“Shut up, you shut up and don’t say a word.” Ariel lunged at her. Zeke used his wolf speed and grabbed her. He threw her up against the wall.

“You do not speak unless spoken to, do you understand me?” I said in my Luna tone.

I could tell she wanted to go off on me, but she had to obey an order since she is a member of this pack.

“Yes, Luna”. She bowed her head.

“Now, Everleigh, I am going to give you one chance and only one to tell me everything and I mean everything that you know and why you did it. If you are lying it will not end well for you,” Enzo said calmly.

It was scary to see him so calm, he normally was yelling and throwing stuff.

“Ariel is my mate” she lowered her head.

The entire room gasped, “WHAT?” I shouted.

“I found out that she was my mate when I turned 18. I was in the game room with a bunch of other people that day. She walked in, and it hit me. I was pissed at first. When she found out it was me, she was angry and rejected me and said she only wanted to be with Enzo. She said the moon Goddess would bless her with a second chance mate and it would be him. I never accepted her rejection and she knew it. Right after she found out that you were his mate, she came to me and told me if I helped her with a few things, she would accept me. I was desperate. She told me about the first plan, and I agreed only because I thought we wouldn’t get caught. She then told me I had to do a few more things with her to earn my keep. She told me that someone else was helping her and that I needed to ask her mom to come home the night of our ceremony and tell her it was an emergency. She followed me all the way to her house, and I asked her if we could go in to talk. She let us both in and then that is where this man and Ariel attacked her. She was screaming for me to help her. I was scared and ran away; I did not know that she was going to kill your mother. I soon realized that she was never going to accept me as her mate, and I was going to have to accept the rejection and live with my guilt. I was contemplating on coming to the Alpha privately and asking him to release me so I could live the rest of my life out as a rogue. Then I decided I should come clean, but I couldn’t find the courage to tell you.” She was crying at that point. I guess she couldn’t tell I knew her fake tears over her real ones.

“Why wouldn’t you come to us sooner so we could help you?” I shouted at her. She didn’t answer and put her hands in her face and sobbed louder.

“Ariel, how did you Chad?” I asked. She stayed silent at first.

“Your Luna asked you a question to answer!” Enzo yelled in his Alpha voice.

Her eyes widened with fear, “I was out one night bitching to my friend at a bar for our kind about Sterling and her mother. This guy overheard me. He came over to me and asked me if I was talking about the Verlice family. I told him yes. He said he would help me get my spot as the Luna if I could help him in return. He told me his name was Chad. He said that if I could get the both of you over to your mother’s house, that he would kill you both. I wanted you to die so Enzo could have been blessed with me as his second chance mate. Everleigh was supposed to get the both of you to come to the house that night, your mom was supposed to come in and sit down and talk to Everleigh for a moment and have her mind link you to come down. Chad jumped the gun and went for the kill immediately and it ruined everything.” She was laughing at the end. This b***h is truly crazy.

“Did Everleigh know that you were going to kill my mother and me?” I asked Ariel.

“Yes, she said she would do anything to get me to accept her, even if it meant killing her best friend and your mom.” Ariel screamed.

Sapphire was on the verge of coming out any second. I felt an arm on my shoulder. I looked over and it was Julie. It was nice to have a mother figure.

“Where is Chad now? How did you get him inside of the space?” Elder Stewart asked her.

“I got him in by pretending he was a booty call, the guards didn’t question it and let us in. He left as soon as we heard the guards heading towards the house. We both left the back door. He left space, and I haven’t heard from him since. He said he was going to come back and finish the job though.” A huge smile came across her face with a sinister look in her eyes.

“So, you did lie to me Everleigh, you assisted with the murder of my mother!” I ran over to her and grabbed her by her throat and threw her against the wall. She tried to fight back but couldn’t.

“How are you stronger than me? I have always been able to beat you.” She yelled in my face. I started to growl. Sapphire was telling me to rip her limb from limb. I ignored her.

“As Elder of the Red Moon pack, I hereby am signing for BOTH Everleigh Sneed and Ariel Carter to be executed for killing a pack member unlawfully and assisting with murder.” He shouted.

“No, please!” They both started to yell.

Colton walked over and stood at my side waiting to take Everleigh; I felt a hand on my shoulder. It was Enzo’s.

“Baby let go, let Colton take them down to the dungeon and we will handle it.” I pulled her off from the wall and tossed her on the ground.

Colton ripped her up and put silver shackles on her. She cried out from the burning pain. She and Ariel both did. The boys both pulled them out of the office. I had almost forgotten about Rae. I’m sure she is freaking out.

“Rae you can come out now.” I said her eyes were wide and tears were running down her face.

“I can’t believe it, I am so sorry, Sterling”, she ran over and grabbed me into a hug, with tears running down her face. She broke down even more when I wrapped my arms around her. I pulled one of my hands to the back of her head. She and Everleigh were a lot closer than Everleigh and I.

“She knew what she was doing. Don’t apologize to me.” I tried cooing to her. I pulled back from the hug, “Will you go sit down on the couch, I need to call her father in here,” I said to everyone.

“Enzo, linking you, please mind linking him to come here?” I asked sweetly. I was nervous to see how he was going to take it.

“He said he would be right; I don’t think he has a single clue as to what is going on,” Enzo replied.

“How do we tell him and who will tell him?” I asked everyone.

“If you are not up to it, Luna the Alpha and I can speak while you are all here,” Elder Stewart graciously answered.

“I think that would be best,” Enzo replied. I nodded. There was a knock at the door.

“I’ll get it.” Julie said while walking over to the door. She opened it up,

“Please come in, Dr. Sneed” she said with a smile on her face.

I could tell she was trying her best to hide everything. I’m sure he could feel the tension in the air.

“Dr. Sneed will you please have a seat?” Elder Stewart pointed towards the couch next to Rae. He nodded his head and went and sat down next to her.

“You are probably wondering why we called you in here today?” Enzo said sternly.

“We called you in here because of Everleigh.” Dr. Sneed’s eyes widened with fear.

“What happened to her? Is she okay? Where is she?” I could hear the fear in his voice.

“Well, is it more along the lines of what she did?” Elder Stewart answered his question.

“Were you aware that she had found her mate?” Enzo questioned him.

“No! I was not Alpha. What did she do? Where is she?” He started to get frustrated.

“Dr. Sneed your daughter found her mate, her mate rejected her, and she kept it a secret all this time. Her mate is Ariel Carter. As we all know, Ariel is obsessed with the Alpha. When she found out that he had found his mate and it was not her, she lost it. Ariel went to a bar for our kind one night and was complaining about the Luna. A gentleman overheard and asked if she was talking about the Verlice family. She told him yes, he offered to help her in exchange for killing them, both. So, she went to Everleigh and told her that she would accept her only if she helped her with a few things. Everleigh and Ariel’s fingerprints were all over Luna’s destroyed car. They admitted to destroying it. The night that Casandra was killed, Ariel had Everleigh lure Casandra down to her house. Everleigh told her it was an emergency and when they entered the home, Casandra was attacked by Ariel and Chad. They murdered her and your daughter knew they were going to do it. They had plans to take the Luna down there as well, but it didn’t work out that way.” Elder Stewart said to him.

“She admitted to all of this?” He had tears in his eyes. She was the only family he had left, and he knew that he had lost her because of her actions. I could not help but start to tear up for him. I can’t even begin to think about the pain he is in.

“Yes, she admitted to everything. At first, she lied about knowing that Ariel and Chad were going to murder Casandra and Ariel told the truth.” Enzo answered him this time. His tears were running from his face, he placed his face in his hands.

“Derrick, you do know what that means, right?” I said to him.

“Yes, Luna I do.” He paused and lifted his head up.

“I would like to see her before she dies, please,” he asked.

“We will have to be down there with you,” I answered him.

“If you need time off, please let us know. If there is anything you need, we will help you. I know this isn’t easy,” I said to him.

“Thank you,” he answered. I turned towards Stark and Julie so he couldn’t see my eyes.

“Do not let him out of your eyesight, that is an order.” I mind-linked them both.

They nodded their heads to tell me they understood, “ If you will excuse me, Enzo and I need to handle a few things first.” I said, and he and I both stepped out of the room.

Everleigh’s POV

I cannot believe they found out; I am beyond pissed.

“I told you not to believe her, you wouldn’t listen to me.” Caroline spat in my head.

“She is our mate. What did you want me to do? I love her!”

“The Moon Goddess could have blessed you with a second chance mate, but you didn’t care. You wanted her.” She was growling at me.

I tried to answer her, but she was blocking me out. I cannot believe she just blocked me out. I was thrown into one of the cellars in the dungeon. It was wet and cold. Colton put silver shackles on my feet and chained me up to the wall. I yelped out in pain. The silver was burning me. I tried to link up with my father but was met with a block. He probably knows by now. I was the only family he had left. My mother died giving birth to me.

“If you had stuck with the f*****g plan, none of this would happen right now!” Ariel was yelling across from the dungeon. I just ignored her, hoping she would shut up.

“He was supposed to love me and make me his Luna, not hers” she was yelling out in pain. I heard Zeke putting the silver shackles on her.

“Shut up!” he growled at her.

I heard a loud cracking noise and she yelled out in pain; he must have punched her in her face. I hurt my father and my best friends; I broke the law with someone who would never accept me. She tricked me by knowing I would give in because I never accepted her rejection. I cannot believe I was so stupid that I fell for it. Caroline tried telling me, but I ignored her. I wish I could go back and change what I did and tell her no. I don’t understand why this guy was so eager to help Ariel anyway, and why he wanted to kill Sterling and her mother. Why could I not stop Sterling from throwing up at a wall by my neck either? I’ve always been stronger than her. None of this s**t was making sense. Just then, I heard a door open and footsteps coming down the stairs. Just then, I saw my father next to Sterling and Enzo, then Rae stepped out from behind them. I hung my head in embarrassment, I knew I only had moments to live, and I was a disgrace to my father.

“Colton, can you please bring her out here and chain her to this wall,” Sterling said with anger.

I looked up and saw her eyes black with rage. I knew I was screwed.

“Yes, Luna.” He bowed his head, and he turned his heels to walk towards me, he undid my chain from the wall and grabbed my arm. I dragged my feet.

With every step I winced in pain. The silver was rubbing my wrists and ankles, he pushed me on the ground and chained me back up to the wall that was in front of everyone.

“Fathe-.” I tried to say.

“Don’t you father me, you disgust me right now! How could you do this? Your mother wanted a good life for you, she gave her life for you to live. She would be so disappointed in you” he was growling in my face with tears running down from his black eyes. “You don’t know how hard I’ve tried to make sure that you would have a good life and here you go and f*ck it up. All because you believed lies.” I could tell his wolf was about to surface.

“I know what I did, I can’t change it. Dad, I’m sorry I messed up, I know that doesn’t mean much right now.” I was trying to hold back my tears. “You did more than enough for me, I was just stupid. I should have listened to Caroline when she told me not to, I accept my death penalty.” I whispered.

“You are damn right you accept it; you need to do what is right. I will never forgive you for this. I will always love you because you were my daughter, but that is it, nothing more. I am not proud to call you my daughter either.” With that, he turned away.

I felt the tears start running down my face. They were hot. My father had never told me that, he never said he wasn’t proud of me. I can feel my heartbreak.

“Alpha, can I please be excused from work? I need some time off.” My father was crying. I could hear his voice breaking.

“Yes, Dr. Sneed we will have a guard placed outside of your house, so no one tries to start anything with you over what Everleigh has done.” Enzo replied so calmly.

It’s scary to see him and Sterling so calm. Normally she would be flipping her sh*t and I assume he would be doing the same.

“Thank you, both for giving me this chance to see her. Alpha, Luna.” He bowed his head and two guards followed him out. I turned my head back to Enzo, Sterling, and Rae, waiting for them to speak.

“You know I used to think of you like a sister to me, but now I only see you as a traitor. You lied to us all and pretended like you loved us and were shocked when everything happened. I always thought that the three of us would grow old and our children would be best friends as well. It disgusts me to even think about you, let alone look at you. I am so glad that I will never see you again. I hate you Everleigh Sneed.” With those final words, Rae came over and punched me across the face. My jaw snapped.

I felt the blood forming in my mouth. I yelped out in pain. I can't bring myself to speak. The pain is too much. I turned my head and she was already halfway up the stairs. I deserve this. I don’t want to live anymore.

“You know at first I liked you and thought you were a good friend for my baby, but now that your true colors have shown, it makes sense why you always seemed jumpy or on edge.” Enzo was growling. “Do you have any final words?” Sterling said to me.

I nodded, “Why did everyone seem to know Chad? Also, how are you stronger than me?” I whispered through the pain in my jaw.

“Chad is my father; I figured your little mate would have told you that. For me to be stronger, I have my wolf now and, well, oh, alpha blood runs through my veins.” She answered me.

“What?” I can hardly speak.

“it’s true we did a blood test on her and had them do it twice. Her father used to be an Alpha. He left his pack because I’m going to assume he broke the law and came here to live with his mother. He would beat Sterling and he knocked her out one day. That is when Casandra rejected him and he beat the s**t out of her as well. He swore to her that day that he would come back for them. You helped him and now he knows that Sterling is the Luna and I’m sure he will stop at nothing to get her.” Enzo growled in my face.

“Can I say one last thing?” I asked them both. They nodded their heads, “I Everleigh Sneed, accept your rejection, Ariel Carter.” I felt my heart shattered. I gasped from the pain. I looked up and saw that the Alpha was standing in front of me. I heard Ariel crying out from the pain of the rejection. The Alpha took another step forward and had his hands around my neck. I closed my eyes, and the darkness took over.
