I was walking in the packhouse, heading to my job. I work as a kitchen omega. Looking down and thinking about how my shift would go, I was not paying attention and ran right into a hard chest. Nearly falling backwards, a strong pair of hands grabbed my arm and caught me.
“Are you okay?” Enzo questioned while helping me, stable myself.
I could not form the words; I just nodded my head. I did not want to look away from his emerald, green eyes.
“Be careful, see you around.” He answered while walking away.
I stood there for a moment and thought about how his hands felt on my arms. It was so nice and felt right. I shook my head and started back to the kitchen.
I started right away, placing everything for lunch. I could not stop replaying the incident in my head. His arms grabbing me, his husky deep voice speaking to me. He asked me if I was okay. I wonder if he truly meant it. I just kept thinking about his eyes. They were mesmerizing to me; I brought my hand to my arm where he touched me. I closed my eyes and pictured him.
“Sterling, are you okay?” Mrs. Lee came up behind me speaking.
I jumped and turned. “Oh, yes. Sorry I was thinking about something.” She scared me.
“Okay, could you help me carry these plates?” she asked, pointing to a few plates on the counter.
I hurried over as if nothing happened and went about my kitchen duties. The day went by so fast. It was now time for me to go back home.
I got in my car and waited for Rae. A few minutes later, she walked out and got in my car.
“How was the kitchen today? Anything fun happened?” She asked while buckling up.
I started my car as she roared to life.
“Well actually, I bumped right into Alpha’s son Enzo on the way to the kitchen. He stopped me from falling and busting my butt.” I blushed and replayed the memory in my head.
“No way, what did you say?” She looked over with excitement. She knows she has had a crush on him for a year now.
“I didn’t say a word, I just nodded. I felt so stupid, I couldn’t form words.” I sounded helpless.
“No, I’m sure you didn’t look dumb. He isn’t Alpha yet; he probably just thinks you are intimidated by him. You know he was probably planning for his party and wasn’t paying attention.” She pulled her phone out and started texting. He and I share the same birthday day.
“I wonder if Ariel is his mate, she has only been following him around her entire life.” She looked at me briefly.
“Only the Moon Goddess knows, besides, I doubt it, she is older than him already.” I huffed, clenching my teeth.
“I don’t want to talk about this anymore please.” I begged her while I pulled into the driveway. She nodded her head, “So, what are we doing tomorrow night for your birthday?” she turned to face me.
“I’m not sure just yet. Maybe a bonfire with you and a couple of other people?” I questioned the idea.
“We did that last year for your 17th birthday, try again.” She rolled her eyes.
“I don’t know Rae; I’ll think about it okay.” I said while pulling myself out of my car. I said goodbye to her. I walked inside and noticed mom wasn’t home yet. I went to the pantry and grabbed a snack. I dragged my feet to my room. I took off my shoes and stuck them in my closet. I grabbed one of my books from my shelf, tossed myself on my bed and started to read; I hadn’t even noticed I was tired. I have been reading the same sentence repeatedly. I started to drift off into sleep, darkness consumed me.
