My Life Saving Mate

Chapter Two

I jumped awake. My heart was beating out of my chest. The alarm was blaring; we were under attack! I jumped out of my bed, rushed to my closet and grabbed my shoes. I swung my bedroom door open, running out. I was pulling my hair up as my mom ran out of her room. I looked down at my watch and noticed it was 11:52. I would be 18 in 8 minutes. Great way to spend my birthday.

“Sterling, please be safe! I don’t know what’s going on.” My mom shouted out as I ran out the front door.

Being a warrior meant I had to fight even if I did not have my wolf yet. I was slamming my feet on the ground running to the space line. I don’t know if this was a test or not.

“Sterling?” I heard Everleigh scream. Rae and Everleigh ran up to me.

“What the hell is going on?!” They both screamed.

“I don’t know, but let’s go!” My heart was beating out of my chest. I didn’t understand what was going on. As we reached the boarder lines, I noticed a couple of the pack members shifting and lunging at other wolves. We have not been attacked in years; this does not make sense. I looked to my left and saw them.

They smelled like rotten trash.

“Rogues!” I shouted to the girls.

They both shifted and helped me take them. I ran straight up a nasty brown and gray colored one. He was snarling his teeth at me, getting ready to pounce. I guess he thought I was an easy target. Life. Does he know I am one of the best fighters? He lunged and I slid to the side, dodging his bite. I jumped on his back and pulled my fist back ready to hit him. Suddenly, I was knocked off. I felt the cold ground as I went rolling. I slammed right into a tree. I yelped in pain. I flipped my head up, now there are two of them.

“What the hell, really?” I stood to my feet.

Everleigh came to my side snarling and growling and getting in the pounce stance. I took off running with her towards the rogues. She got to them a lot faster because she was in her wolf form. I jumped on the back of one of them, snapping at her. I tried to put my arm about its neck to get ready to snap it when I heard a yelping howl. I turned and saw Rae in a circle of at least 6 rogues. I locked eyes with Everleigh. She nodded for me to go; I took off running as fast as I could. My heart was pounding out of my chest. Hopefully, I can make it for her. One of the rogues had just lunged himself toward her. I was about to lose it, I ran right up to the group of rogues and slid right under them, pushing myself next to her. They pounced as soon as I got to my feet. I grabbed one of them back by the neck and snapped it. The next one kicked me, and I flipped down on the ground hard. I felt another sharp pain in my stomach, that jerk broke something. It knocked the wind out of me. I felt like I could not breathe. My eyesight was starting to blur. This did not seem right. Something is wrong, I try my best to get up but fall back down. Rae is trying to get to my side.
