CHAPTER 1:The Boy I Hate
Amara's pov
There are three things that annoys me on a Monday morning: slow walkers,The morning Crowd and lastly Daniel Cole. He is literally the last person I would love to see everyday of my life.
"Slow down Williams"
I stopped and turned around and there he was leaning against the wall flashing those perfect white teeth
Daniel Cole, the captain of the basketball players of Westbridge High and every girl's dream guy
Of course
Apparently my Monday morning wasn't miserable enough without him making an appearance.
What do you want, Daniel ? I asked, regretting why I turned around.
Good morning to you too Amara, he said.
It was a good morning until you opened your mouth hole.
He chuckled pushing himself off the wall."still charming,I see."
"And you are still as annoying as ever. Some things never change."
His smile faltered for a fraction of a second.
Good.
Maybe he remembered after all.
Maybe he remembered what happened two years ago, maybe he remembered the promises, the secrets, and the way he looked me in the eyes like nothing else matters before everything fell apart
And Maybe Cole Daniel had perfected the art of pretending he hadn't destroyed something that couldn't be repaired
"Are we still doing this?" he asked quietly.
I stared at him.
"Doing What?"
This. The pretending that I don't exist. The insults. The way you look at me like you want me to disappear."
I let out a humourless laugh.
"You want to know what's funny, Daniel? You act like you have no idea why I hate you."
His jaw tightened.
For once, he had nothing clever to say.
I stepped closer,lowering my voice.
"You don't get to hurt me, walk away, and come back expecting everything to be fine."
"Amara..."
"No." I held up my finger. "You lost the right to explain yourself a long time ago ."
I turned and walked away before he could respond.
I refused to look back.
Because the last time I trusted Daniel Cole, he gave me every reason never to trust him again.
And I would rather die of embarrassment than let him know that despite everything,a small part of me still wanted to hear what he had to say.
He wanted to come after me, but Nathan stopped him.
Nathan Reed. Daniel's academic rival and, apparently, his archenemy.
If Daniel was the kind of person who could ruin your morning with nothing more than a smile, Nathan was the kind who could ruin his with just a few words.
I didn't know what Nathan said to him, but I wasn't interested enough to stick around and find out.
I had more important things to worry about than Daniel Cole and whatever game he thought we were still playing.
I turned away and continued down the hallway, pretending I couldn't hear Daniel calling my name.
I didn't bother looking back.
Whatever Nathan was saying to Daniel was none of my business. At least, that was what I kept telling myself as I walked down the hallway, my books clutched tightly against my chest.
Daniel Cole had a talent for ruining my mornings. No, scratch that. He had a talent for ruining my entire day just by existing.
"Amara, wait!"
I recognised the voice before I even turned around.
Nathan.
I stopped reluctantly as he caught up with me, slightly out of breath.
"What's your problem with him?" he asked.
I stared at him. "Are you seriously asking me that?"
He raised his hands in surrender. "I'm just asking."
"Then stop asking stupid questions, Reed."
I turned to leave, but his next words made me freeze.
"He wasn't the only one who made that mistake, you know."
