Chapter 24
Marco and Aubrey spent the next couple of days in and out of the hospital. He wasn’t sure if he was welcome, but he promised Aubrey he would be there for her. At night she’d cry in his arms, and he would hold her until early morning came and they were back at the hospital.
Her father was still lucid, but his days were coming to an end. Marco avoided his room as much as possible, preferring to support Aubrey from the closest waiting room.
It was lunchtime now, and neither Aubrey or her mother had walked past, which meant they hadn’t eaten a thing. He went down to the cafeteria, picked up a few things, and brought them upstairs.
He walked to the room and gave a gentle knock. This time her father was awake. He had avoided the awkward reunion, but it had seemed that time was up.
