Jax POV
"well that went well!" I say, internally to my wolf Max.
"Yeah.. all I could smell was her cheap perfume.. I was starting to get nauseous."
I smirked as I walk back to my pickup truck in the parking lot of the cafe I just had an interview at. Working in a cafe is not my first choice for work but I'm a little pressed for money at the moment and I'm familiar with the work.
I left my pack a little less than a year ago, I wanted to get away from pack life and see what it would be like on my own. As much as I miss my family I just had this urge to get away and see what living around humans would be like.
When I turned 18 and shifted into my wolf for the first time, I was so excited! I couldn't wait to meet my mate. Now at 25 and still no mate, I felt the urge to look for her. while many of the girls in my pack were more than interested in me, I just couldn't bring myself to settle for less than my fated mate.
My father, Alpha Rich of the Blue Moon Pack, was not happy with my decision. Over the years he has sent me to many packs in the area but have had no luck finding my mate. Once he started talking about a chosen mate I knew I had to make a move. I told him I needed to go out on my own and see if I could find my mate. He believed it would be a waste of time but I was persistent. And Max was not at all ok with a chosen mate.
After a few months on the East Coast, living in Northern New Jersey, My father said he had enough and is no longer going to send me money. And if I didn't return then I had to fend for myself. So here I am looking for work to pay for my room in my apartment that I share with my roommate Ryan. He is a quiet guy, keeps to himself. we don't have much in common and he always has a different girl with him every night.
As I start the truck I take a deep breath and stare off into the sky, the sun is setting.
"Can I go out for a run tonight? its been forever!" my wolf whined at me.
I feel bad for Max, since I have been in the human world I don't get nearly as many opportunities to let Max out for a run.
"Alright buddy, let me get something to eat and when the sun is down I'll let you out in the wild life preserve "
I can sense him getting excited. he loves to run and hunt.
*****************************************
later that night I pull up to a small parking lot just outside a heavily wooded area. I walk deep enough into the woods so as to not be seen. I strip down and hide my clothes by a tree and shift with the quickness. Max takes off running like he was on Fire!
Max is a handsome wolf. All black with a patch of white on his chest and toes. He is huge and intimidating looking but acts like a golden retriever, always excited and ready to play.
"Max do you think our mate is out there?.. What if she died and we are destined to be without our fated mate?"
Usually while Max runs is when we have our more deep conversations.
"she is out there I can feel it!.. I thought I caught a scent of something mouth watering when we were in the cafe, but it was over powered by that retired cheerleader of a boss of yours. maybe she is a customer and lives nearby."
" Really?!.. but would that mean she is human?"
I said to Max, a little nervous about what that could mean.
"Its possible I guess." he said, not really seeming to care either way.
I'm not surprised. Max wants his mate even more than I do. Its all he thinks about.
" Alright Max its time to head home. If you want maybe we can check out the cafe in the morning and see if we can catch our mates scent. If she is a customer she may swing by."
I said to get him excited to head home. I know he loves to run around but getting him to hand me back control has been difficult lately.
"Fine.." he huffed at me. and reluctantly started to head back toward the parking lot.
Heading back home I feel a sense of excitement. I hope our mate is here somewhere. I have waited and looked for so long.
**************************
the next morning I wake up early to get some breakfast and head to the cafe. I'm not sure what time she would be stopping there so I figured getting there for the morning Rush couldn't hurt. I head out around 7:30 a.m. Cafe is only 10 minutes from my place so I should be there just as the majority of people are there.
I park my truck in the parking lot and head for the door of the cafe. I can feel Max just at the surface wanting to make sure all my senses are on high alert. a walk in and order a chai latte and sit in the far corner of the cafe. I'm right next to a huge window that looks out into the parking lot and I have a full shot of the entire Cafe from here. I pull out my cell phone and scroll through some text I received last night with my future Beta
Mark. he's just as antsy for me to come home as my father is. the sooner I get back the sooner I can take over as Alpha and him as Beta.
just as I'm about to type out a message to him I hear a loud car pull up into the parking spot just by the window I'm sitting at. the music from the car is loud sounds like classic rock and from the look of the car it seems to fit. An 80s style black Monte Carlo with t-tops pulls into the spot. the car shuts off and just as I'm about to turn back to my phone the car door swings open and the person coming out is not what I expected. A short girl looks to be in her 20's steps out of the driver side door. She has long strait Black hair in a high pony tail, and she is wearing silver reflective Aviator sunglasses. she grabs her bag and throws it over her shoulder and starts to walk towards the door.
Max's interest has peaked. as she is walking, I'm drinking her in. Thick thighs, an even thicker a**, small waist and full breasts. just a bit more than a hand full.
Max is drooling in my mind and my eyes can't leave the beautiful creature.
She is small maybe 5 foot tall. So cute but looks like she could kick my a**... I would let her.
She swings open the door and I'm hit with the most amazing scent of Lavender and chamomile. Max starts to howl loud as could be in my head. I can barely stay focused.
"MATE" Max shouts in my head. I almost blurt it out loud with him but I hold it in.
My heart is pounding against my ribcage I almost lose my breath.
" okay, okay, calm down buddy. Just relax, I need to think!" I scold my wolf who is trying to take full control of me.
"Think about what?!! she is ours! go get her!!!!!" Max is frantic at this point.
"MAX PLEASE CALM DOWN! we are in a human cafe! we can't just run up to her throw her over our shoulder and run out!!"
Max starts to whimper in my head as he tries to calm himself.
She walks toward the counter and I watch as the customers and employees are all saying hi to her.
"Hey Macy!"
one of the employees working the bar shouts over to her.
"Macy" I whisper In my mind. and I hear Max purr.
" Hey Tim! long time no see!" She yells to him and winks at him.
A small growl rumbles in my chest and I try to fight it back.
who the hell is Tim?! I think to myself.
" I have a short shift today but let me know if you and B are chillin tonight." he says as he is heading in her direction. She smiles up at him while she ties her apron on.
" I don't like how she smiles at him." Max growls.
"Its okay he works here and so does she, and now we do too. we will figure this out. Just keep the possessiveness to a dull roar for the moment." I scold Max.
I know he is excited, so am I but we cant go all Alpha right now we need to play it cool.
I can't stay here. I have to go and get my mind right.
I'm working tomorrow night here and I'm not sure who I'm working with but whoever it is I'm sure we can get some more info from another employee about the relationship between my mate and this Tim guy. And who the hell is B?..
I grab my drink and head for the door. It took every bit my my will power to walk out of that cafe but I needed to or Max would have shifted and marked our mate by force.
As I head to my truck I pull out my phone and call my Beta Mark.
After 2 rings I hear his excited voice.
"JAX!! how is it going man!? I haven't heard from you in a few days how is the Job hunt going?"
" We have an interesting development." I say to him as I start the truck and pull out of the parking lot.
