I spy

Jax POV I take a quick look at the layout of the backyard, and I see that just a few yards away, there's a heavily wooded area behind the house. Must be due to the house being at the dead end of the street, I thought to myself. As I turn back to head to the Jeep, I notice light shining from a window very close to the ground. This must be a basement window. I crouched down and see what looks like a bar and a pool table. I can faintly hear voices, and then I see her. Macy is sitting in a computer chair just beyond the pool table. She's looking over at Blake and Tim. She hasn't moved from her seat to get up to hug or kiss either of them, and a part of me takes a big sigh of relief. I don't think my wolf will be able to contain himself if he watches two men touching our mate. An Alpha wolf is notoriously possessive and will not hesitate to break into this house and rip the heads off the two men touching what belongs to us. I watch for a few more minutes. I see Blake lights a blunt and takes a few hits and pass it to Macy. She smiles and takes a hit and relaxes back in her chair. Watching her smile and laugh has me awestruck, seeing her hard, cold face warm into a smile. Then jealousy creeps its way in.. I want to be the one to make her laugh and smile like that. I forced myself to stand up and walk away from the window, and I continue to walk my way to the Jeep, making sure not to be seen. I get back into the passenger seat, and Mark is looking at me expectedly with an eyebrow raised. "Well? Is it her? Is this the place?" He asks, eagerly awaiting my reply. " Yeah, this is her place. She has her own entrance in the back of the house. The backyard is heavily wooded. It shouldn't be too hard keeping an eye on her without knowing. I look back at Mark, who now has a victorious look on his face. "What?" I ask, confused by his look. " Just waiting for a thank you or a, you saved the day, Mark!" I chuckle at his childish behavior. " ok, you're the best, Mark. I don't know what I would have done without you. You're the best beta an alpha could ever ask for." I say with a dry sarcastic tone. "Aww, any time, Alpha!" Mark says with his hand over his heart while he bats his eyes at me. I chuckle, shaking my head. "Alright, let's get you a place to stay nearby." Mark starts the Jeep, and we head to the closest hotel. ***************************************** Once we get Mark checked in and settled into his room, I find my mind drifting to thoughts of my mate. I wonder what clothes she sleeps in. Does she sleep naked? I wonder what her body would feel like pressed up against mine. My thoughts are cut off by Mark clearing his throat and giving me a knowing look. "You got it bad, man!" he laughs. I just shrug. I'm not going to argue that. I know in do. "How are things with you and Jessica? Have you decided to take her as your chosen mate?" I ask him, trying to take his attention off of me. He sighs heavy as he sits on the end of the bed. "I don't know.. I care for her, I do, but I just can't help but feel..-" " Like it would be a mistake to not wait for your mate?" I interject. He looks at me and nods his head. Mark is a good guy. I grew up with him. he is the closest thing I have to a brother. He is a good-looking guy, too. He is just a little shorter than me with dirty blond hair blue eyes. And due to the intense training we do as high ranked wolves, he is built like an MMA fighter. He could have his pick of any she-wolf. But I understand the need and drive to find your true mate. "You won't receive any pressure from me. I get it. Do what feels right for you, bro." "Thanks, man." he says with a smile. "Well, it's getting late. I'm gonna head back." I say as I stand from the chair. " You need a ride?" he asks, standing from the bed. "No, I'm good. I'm gonna let Max take me home. The woods are just across the street, and if I cut through them, I can make it home in half the time." " Yeah, and according to the GPS, your mates house is on the other side of those woods as well." he says, wagging his eyebrows at me. " I know." I say with a wink, and I head to the door. " Get some sleep, Beta. I'll give you a call in the morning." I say over my shoulder as I step out of the room. "Goodnight, Alpha, run safely!" ***************************************** The second Max's paws touch the ground, he is sprinting through the woods following the natural magnetic like pull to our mate. As he is running, I can't help but feel a bit sad for Max. Having a human mate means he has no wolf counterpart to bond with. As if reading my thoughts, Max says. "I don't care that she has no wolf. I want her just the way she is." he says with finality. " I can bond with her just the same. I'll be whatever she needs me to be. " Max is head over heals for our mate, and he has only seen her for brief moments. Max slows as we catch some light from Macy's house. As he walks closer to the tree line, we hear the heavy storm door open and out comes Blake and Tim, quietly chatting with each other as they walk twords the front of the house. Then I see Macy step out of the storm door. She looks up at the moon and closes her eyes, and takes a deep breath. Max and I are captivated by her. Her raven black hair is shining under the moon light, her smooth pale skin is glowing. Max has his sights locked on her as he inches closer to her as if she were our prey. Then suddenly her head whips in our direction, and Max crouches low to the ground to hide the white patch on his chest so she can't see it in the dark. The wind shifts in our direction, and Max lifts his nose in the air and takes a deep breath to catch our mates scent, lavender and chamomile. Max starts to purr in satisfaction, and in a half whisper half growl, he says "Mine"
