Chapter 2

I get straight to the point “did you know?”I asked my mother, pointing to the couple still locked together on her bed. She looks away guilty. “You have to understand. Sally needs a man to take care of her and the baby. You don’t need anyone to take care of you. You have a bright future and can get another man” my jaw drops “Baby?” The couple on the bed smirk. “I’m having Ryan’s baby. You’ve never been enough.” Sally says with a sneer. “Sally Michelle, don’t you dare talk to your sister like that. She’s just focused on her future right now. You can’t fault her for that”. “What, mom? It’s true. She always acts better than all of us, but she’s really not. Like she’s actually going to have a future cooking. She’s pathetic.” Before “mom” -and that’s a lose term- could reply, I asked her“ did you know about the bet?” I stared my mother down waiting for an answer, when there was a slight nod. “Words, mother, did you know?” Rayna asked again. My mother looked away. “I thought it was just a rumor. I didn’t think it was real. And either way, I knew you were smarter than that. You have so much potential.” I was devastated. My mother knew my “boyfriend” was f*****g my sister and the b***h defended their actions. I can barely speak “does everyone know?” “I’m sure. They weren’t subtle, but Luanne doesn’t know, since that’s what you’re really asking. We didn’t need the distraction before the baby and wedding announcement.” “The distraction?” She questioned. “My “boyfriend” betting on my virginity while knocking up my w***e of a sister is classified as a distraction?” My mother flinched like I’d hit her. “Honey, it’s not like that. Sally isn’t as strong as you are. She needs more support from those around her. We will all get over this and you’ll help us with the baby shower and wedding.” The f*****g audacity of this b***h. I’m laid back and avoid confrontation but I’m not a pushover. Far from it. “You've enabled that entitled b***h and chose her over me for the last time. From this day forward, I have no mother or sister. You are both dead to me.” “What about your niece or nephew?” The b***h on the bed smugly asked, rubbing her belly. “ I don’t have a sister. How can I have a niece or nephew?” I responded and started walking down the stairs when my mother grabbed my arm. “Rayna, honey, we need to talk about this. You’ll hurt yourself acting like this. We are your family. We will work this out. You two get dressed and get downstairs. Rayna, we will sit down and discuss this.” The audacity of the woman is appalling. “Janice, remove your hand now. I will not sit at the table with any of you. There is nothing to work out. This is the last time I deal with you treating me like s**t while encouraging her disgusting behavior. For years, I defended you and Sally from dad’s family. It turns out everything they said was true. I’m leaving.” “Rayna, I am your mother. How can you talk to me like that? What will our relatives think of you abandoning your family when we need you? Sally and Ryan need your support with the baby.“ “I’m not abandoning anyone. My relatives only have to watch the video that has been live-streaming this entire time to know why I have no family. Maybe someone on your side of the family will finally understand what I’ve been saying for years. Luckily, dad’s family helped me prepare for who you truly are before you took us from them. You two are great actresses. I’ll give you that- “ “It’s being recorded not live-streamed, f*****g slut. You only have to get me my $900 bucks and no one will ever see any of this. Otherwise, I’ll go play the poor jilted lover who turned to your sister for comfort. People know how I was head over heels for you and doted on you. Still, you never let me f**k you. God you too much f*****g work for an average looking bitch.” I humorlessly laughed in Ryan’s face. “You’re dumber than I thought if you believe Kay isn’t broadcasting this to the entire world right now and recording it. She wants to do the most damage possible. Isn’t that right Kay?” I looked at the camera. Ryan and Sally looked livid, Janice's skin paled to a sickly white. I saw her trembling, “you deserve it. You’re always blowing everyone off and acting too good to hang out with us. I’m not the only one who wants to see you brought down a peg or two.” I see Ryan and Sally jumping towards the camera and Kay screaming. Over, it all, I hear Janice “Where are you going? We’re all you have. We're a family, your sister needs your support.” “I’m going to my family. We’re strangers if I ever see you again. What you did is so much worse than what they did. I wish you the life you work for.” With that, I walked out the front door. How did today get so f****d?probably when I decided to f**k-well date - someone I’m not attracted to. I let everyone get in my head and make me feel inadequate for never having a boyfriend or s*x. Funny thing is, Sally and Kay were the ones pushing me the hardest to give Ryan or Noah a shot. They put all that time and energy into hurting me because I was focused on my future and not partying and s*x. Who the hell does that? My phone starts ringing, and I notice it’s Janice. I take the time to block every one of them. Janice, Sally, Ryan and Kay. I know I need to let Lu know what happened, but I need to process everything. I can’t think of anything I’ve done that would’ve made them all want to be so cruel to me. I do my work, school, I help around the community. Walking down the street, I noticed Tyler, Kays' brother, running towards his car. Once he spots me, he stopped, runs to me and hugs me. “Hell, Rayna, how are you doing? I tried calling you. I figured you had your phone off. Lu called me in a panic. We both saw everything. I’m so sorry, you never deserved that, my sister is a useless cunt out for herself.” “You sure you’re not talking about my sister?” We laughed at that. “Seriously, they were brutal, but you know every bit of that was a lie, right? You’re f*****g amazing. I understand you don’t see me that way, but I’ll always have your back, OK, firefly?” “I know. Thanks, Ty. I should’ve listened to you from the beginning. I let people get in my head and I almost made a horrible mistake. I was on my way to tell him I’d f**k him. Kay and Sally kept telling me all this s**t, like that’s what real girlfriends do, whether they’re up for it or not. I let them get to me. Thank god that happened when it did. Kinda sucks it was recorded for the world to see. Guess I am kinda pathetic.” “Abso-f*****g-lutly not, firefly. Nothing about you is pathetic. You gave the wrong man a chance and he was a giant prick. You’re not pathetic at all. Those three backstabbers are.” Tyler was outraged. “I just wanted to be normal, Ryan convinced me attraction would come. I’ve got to be the only 19-year-old who is never attracted to someone. I tried but just felt disgusted. And I let my school fall behind because he wanted more time with me. Now I’m a whole year behind.”I sighed “I don’t know what I was thinking. If I look back, I see all the red flags I just listened to people I shouldn’t have.” Tyler looks at me thoughtfully. “You know how I feel about you.” I nodded “Why didn’t you come to me? I would have done anything to make you happy, to try and win your affection. I just… I just, I don’t know. You told me why you wouldn’t go out with me but went with Ryan. He didn’t deserve your time or attention.”
