Chapter 1: The Night of Rejection
The night of the Full Moon Ceremony was supposed to be the most important night of Nyra Vale’s life.
Instead, it became the night everything broke.
Cold air drifted through the clearing, carrying the scent of pine, earth, and wolves. The forest glowed faintly under the full moon, its silver light casting long shadows across the gathered pack.
Laughter echoed around her.
Voices. Confidence. Belonging.
Nyra stood at the edge of it all.
Alone.
Her fingers tightened around the thin fabric of her dress as she watched the others celebrate. Every movement, every smile, every shared glance—it all reminded her of one thing.
She didn’t belong here.
“Careful, omega.”
The voice came from behind her, followed by a deliberate shove to her shoulder. Nyra stumbled forward slightly before catching herself.
A group of girls stood nearby, their expressions filled with quiet amusement.
“Wouldn’t want to ruin the ceremony with your presence,” one of them added, her lips curling.
Nyra lowered her gaze.
She didn’t respond.
She never did.
Because there was nothing to say.
They weren’t wrong.
At eighteen, every wolf was supposed to have awakened their wolf spirit. It was the moment they truly became part of the pack.
But Nyra?
She had nothing.
No wolf.
No strength.
No place.
Just a title whispered behind her back—
The useless omega.
Her chest tightened slightly, but she forced the feeling down.
She was used to it.
Or at least… she tried to be.
Then—
It started.
A strange pull.
Soft at first.
Barely noticeable.
Nyra frowned slightly, her hand instinctively pressing against her chest.
“What…?”
The feeling grew stronger.
Warmer.
Like something inside her was waking up.
Her breath caught.
No.
It couldn’t be.
Her heart began to race as the pull intensified, guiding her forward step by step, as if an invisible thread was leading her somewhere.
Or to someone.
Around her, the ceremony began to quiet.
The atmosphere shifted.
Heavy.
Anticipating.
Then—
He appeared.
Alpha Kael Draven.
The moment he stepped into the clearing, everything changed.
Conversations died instantly. Laughter faded. Even the air seemed to still in his presence.
Power radiated from him effortlessly.
Cold. Controlled. Absolute.
Nyra’s breath stopped.
The pull snapped tight.
Her heart slammed painfully against her chest.
Him.
Her feet moved before she could think.
Drawn toward him.
Unable to stop.
His dark eyes scanned the crowd—
Then landed on her.
Time froze.
The moment their gazes locked, something inside her exploded.
Warmth flooded her veins.
A connection.
Deep. Unbreakable. Real.
Her lips parted, her voice barely more than a breath.
“Mate…”
The word echoed louder than she intended.
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
Nyra didn’t hear them.
She couldn’t.
Because Kael was staring at her.
And the look in his eyes—
It wasn’t what she expected.
There was no warmth.
No recognition.
Only shock.
Followed by something far worse.
Rejection.
“No.”
The word was sharp.
Cold.
Final.
Nyra blinked, her heart stuttering.
“What…?” she whispered.
Kael stepped forward, his presence overwhelming.
“I, Alpha Kael Draven,” he said, his voice carrying across the entire clearing, “reject you, Nyra Vale, as my mate.”
The world shattered.
A sharp pain ripped through her chest, stealing the air from her lungs. Nyra gasped, her body trembling as the invisible bond between them snapped violently.
It felt like something inside her had been torn apart.
Her knees hit the ground.
The dirt beneath her felt distant.
Everything did.
Whispers surrounded her.
Mocking. Shocked. Cruel.
“An omega?”
“She’s his mate?”
“That’s disgusting…”
Tears blurred her vision as she looked up at him.
At the man who was supposed to be hers.
“Why…?” she asked weakly.
Kael didn’t hesitate.
“You are weak,” he said coldly. “And I do not accept weakness.”
The words cut deeper than the rejection itself.
Something inside her broke completely.
Her head lowered, her shoulders trembling as the last piece of hope she had ever held onto crumbled into nothing.
But beneath the pain…
Something stirred.
Something dark.
Ancient.
Watching.
Waiting.
Unseen by anyone—
Nyra’s eyes flickered faintly.
A soft glow.
Gone before anyone noticed.
