Theodore was taken from Nevis to Port Royal, Jamaica in the belly of an English warship. He was chained to the hull along with two other men also accused of piracy. The voyage, although a short one, was excruciating. Sailing near the equator in early summer made for severely oppressive conditions, especially below decks. Naked, except for the linen trousers he had worn on the day of his surrender, Theodore, along with his fellow prisoners, sweated and sweltered in the dank, smelly bowels of the ship. In the dark, he could hear the scurrying of rats.
Immediately recognized by his two fellow captives due to the dragon tattoo, they marveled that the famous captain of The Dragon had been taken prisoner. In the lore of the pirate world, he was thought to be invincible.
