Chapter 26

‘’How did it go?’’ Alessandro asked as soon as he walked into the room.

Luciana sighed, walking towards the bar to fetch herself a drink. There were many things that she wanted to tell him but all that was in her mind at that moment was the anger that was burning within her. She felt insulted, felt weak and above all felt a burning anger within her.

She had never been insulted this much in her life before. There were many things she had faced in her life but not this much insult from her greatest enemy.

‘’Reed insulted me.’’ Luciana said.

If Alessandro was surprised about this, he hid it from his face. Luciana knew he was angry, livid instead but like the man he was, he kept his cool and waited for her to say what she had in her mind.

‘’What did he say?’’ Alessandro asked.

Luciana poured herself a drink, sipping slowly as she made her way towards the large couch. She took another sip, looking at nothing in particular.

‘’He called me a slut but i know he’s just frustrated because he just discovered who i am.’’ Luciana smiled.

Alessandro chuckled, taking a seat in front of her. He was expecting something like this from Reed and he wasn’t quite surprised that he was doing something like this. Jealousy is a very strong reaction especially when it comes to people who we thought were greater than and in the case of Reed, he actually thought he could intimidate Luciana, not knowing that she was the master of the game.

‘’Don’t get worked up over what the fool said. I can tell that he was actually very surprised, you know seeing you this way.’’ Alessandro said.

Luciana sighed, downing the rest of her drink in one gulp. She knew Alessandro was right but the sting of hearing that insult from him, especially since she developed a little feelings for him hurt her so bad she couldn’t breath.

‘’I know i shouldn’t say this now seeing that you’re just coming from one but you have another meeting with the higher ups, your fathers trusted men by tomorrow evening down at the wharf. They want to know how far you’re going concerning the Fontana’s.’’ Alessandro said.

Luciana was expecting this but she wasn’t expecting it to be so soon. Nevertheless, she would go because those men had helped her father shape the organization to become what it is today. They deserved that respect.

‘’Okay, thank you for letting me know.’’ Luciana smiled.

She was so overwhelmed with emotions that she ended up giving Alessandro a big hug. He wrapped his hands around her body, breathing in her banana flavored shampoo on her hair. For someone as young as she was, she had actually gone through hell and back. Sometimes, he couldn’t quite understand the type of strength she used to get by everyday.

‘’I just want you to know that you’re really strong and very brave.’’ Alessandro said, kissing the top of her head.

‘’Thank you Andro.’’ Luciana smiled.

Alessandro nodded before stepping out of the room. Luciana slumped on her bed, staring at the ceiling in dismay. These were one of the moments she badly needed her parents, even her mother. She just needed someone to care for her. She was tired of caring for herself. Alessandro was doing a good job but it still wasn’t like her parent’s.

‘’I think i need to get laid… or not.’’ Luciana murmured.

Luciana wanted to do that but yet, the very idea disgusted her. She didn’t know what that was but the image of Reed just popped into her head and she deadened the idea immediately.

‘’What is the meaning of this?’’ Luciana murmured.

This was the person she hated, someone she wanted to kill, why then was his face coming to her head. Her mind went back to what Alessandro had said and she realized that he was right. She was fond of him and that was why she kept on thinking about him.

‘’But how can i be fond of him when i badly want to kill him.’’ Luciana said.

She sat up in bed, looking out of her window. The rain that had threatened to fall earlier on was now a big ball of cloud that was hovering over the skyline. The rain was still going to fall, that was one thing Luciana was sure about.

‘’Damn it!’’ Luciana said, rising to her feet.

She grabbed her jacket from where it was hanging at the edge of the chair before walking out of her room. She needed to leave the house for a while if she didn’t want to dwell on thoughts about Reed.

‘’Diabla, where are you off to?’’ Alessandro asked.

Apparently, he had spotted her from the library where he was going over some files the don had left in his care.

‘’Why are you asking me that Alessandro, i’m not a baby remember?’’ Luciana snapped.

She saw the hurt look in his eyes and she immediately felt bad over what she had said. Alessandro was just looking out for her and he didn’t deserve what she had just told him.

‘’I’m… i’m sorry.’’ Luciana sighed.

Alessandro sighed, walking towards her. He took her hands in his, giving it a gentle squeeze. He was right about the stress she was passing through and now, he could see that it was telling on her.

‘’I just want to keep you safe, that’s all.’’ Alessandro said.

‘’I know you want to do that Alessandro but you should know that I'm no longer a child too. I’m my own woman so i should be allowed a free reign at times.’’ Luciana said.

‘’I know but Diabla, you should know that you have a whole lot of enemies out there and the last thing I want for you is to get hurt,’’ he said.

‘’I’ll be okay. Sometimes, i think you forget the kind of person you’re talking to.’’ Luciana laughed.

‘’I know you, smart ass.’’ Alessandro laughed.

‘’I’m off to the club, i just need to live a little and with something other than this revenge mission we’ve got going.’’ Luciana said.

‘’Okay but don’t be late.’’ Alessandro said.

Luciana rolled her eyes before walking away. Unknown to her, Alessandro had placed a tracker within her wristwatch and that would enable him to know where she was going at all times.

He couldn’t take any risk when it came to her and he wasn’t ready to do any of that because just before the don died, he had whispered something to her and that was what he was going to take to his grave.

‘’See that she doesn’t get hurt.’’ Alessandro said.

‘’Yes boss.’’ an agent said before walking away.

Luciana climbed into her car, heading towards her favorite club. That was the only place she could unwind. She was hoping to get laid but still, she wasn’t banking on that quite yet.

‘’Diabla.’’ the bartender said, bowing his head a bit.

It was usually an honor to have someone like Luciana here with him. He had also noticed that anytime she was here, business usually boomed better for him throughout that week. Perhaps she had a good luck charm around her.

‘’How are you doing Matt?’’ Luciana smiled, taking a seat.

‘’Very fine. My wife put to bed last week… a girl and both of them are doing alright.’’ he grinned.

‘’Congratulations! I’ll send a gift over this weekend.’’ Luciana smiled.

She downed her drink in one gulp, looking around the bar. Alessandro was right about being vigilant and she wasn’t about to let her guard down especially since she had Reed as an enemy now.

‘’Is there a party going on Diabla?’’ Matt chuckled.

Luciana stared at him with a confused look in her eyes. She couldn’t quite understand what he meant by that. She looked around again but there was no indication that a party was taking place here which just left her all the more confused.

‘’I mean… the other boss was here a few minutes ago. In fact, i think he’s in the restroom.’’ he said.

‘’What other boss? Last time i checked Matt, i’m the only boss.’’ Luciana said, squinting at home.

Matt realized his mistake a little too late because at that moment, he saw comprehension dawn on her face and with it came an hatred so strong it was almost choking.

‘’I… i’m sorry Diabla, i didn’t mean to insult you.’’ Matt apologized, bowing his head a bit.

‘’It's okay, you’re forgiven. If you weren’t my friend, i would have killed you within a second.’’ Luciana said calmly.

The way she said it sent fear down Matt’s spine. She was so calm and collected even when she talked about killing someone.

‘’It won’t happen again Diabla and i am honored to be your friend.’’ Matt said, his head almost touching the table.

‘’Where did the bastard go?’’ Luciana asked.

This time around, she sipped her drink more calmly as she surveyed the area. There was no sign of him.

‘’To the restroom Diabla. I’m sure he’ll be coming out in a moment now.’’ Matt said.

As if on cue, Reed walked out from a corner and in that moment, it just seemed like he knew where to find Luciana because his eyes locked with her’s.

He smirked, walking towards her. Luciana was no fool and she knew that his men were scattered all around the club. For a split second, she regretted not following Alessandro’s warnings not to leave the house but she shook that thought away. The last thing she would do will be to run away like a coward.

Luciana was a goddamn mafia queen and she would act like one. Reed could come for her with everything he had, she was ready for him.

‘’Sir, Diabla is about to face the enemy.’’ the agent said.

He was on the line with Alessandro and upon hearing that, he was livid. This was what he was trying to avoid and now, it was happening.

‘’Try as much as possible to stay close to her without being seen. I’ll be there soon.’’ Alessandro said before cutting the call.

Reed got to her soon and the look he gave her was a mixture of anger and pride. He sat beside her, staring at her beautiful face.

‘’We meet again.’’ Luciana smirked.

‘’We did.’’ Reed simply said.

‘’Reed Fontana, let’s play a game.’’ Luciana said.
