Chapter 27

Reed took another sip of his drink as he stared at the woman who had intrigued him from the very moment he set his eyes on her. Luciana was unlike any other woman he had ever seen before and now that he knew the kind of person she was, he had to thread carefully if he didn’t want to end up dead because she could kill him faster than he could say his name.

‘’What kind of game Luciana or should i call you… Diabla?’’ Reed smirked.

Luciana chuckled and she knew that he was trying to push her buttons which was something she would never allow. He had insulted her once and she wasn’t about to allow him to do that to her again, she had had enough.

‘’A game i’m sure i will emerge the victor.’’ Luciana said.

Matt, who knew that tensions were high at that moment, silently left the area. He wasn’t about to be caught in a hail of gunfire and bullets if this turned out to be a very bad deal. Luckily for him, he was almost done for the day and he was quite sure that no customer would be coming to order.

‘’Why are you so full of yourself?’’ Reed snapped.

‘’That’s not being full of myself, that’s being confident and i’m sure you know that or… let me guess, you don’t like a woman who is proud and self made or little boy, are you inferior.’’ Luciana laughed.

‘’Don’t test my patience Luciana. With a snap of my finger, my men would put a bullet through your head.’’ Reed said.

‘’Oh really? Then why don’t you order them to do it now? Do it Reed and see if you’ll ever leave this place alive.’’ Luciana laughed.

It was a soulless laughter, one that chilled the very bones in Reed’s body. He had never seen a woman quite like her and he knew better than to talk to her anyhow he deemed fit.

‘’Just so you know, I own this building and so my men are in every corner watching my movement and if you for once go of course, I'm afraid all that will be left of you is maybe… your brain matter and of course fragments of your men’s body and trust me Reed, my men are trigger happy.’’ Luciana said, sitting back.

She was quite glad to see his face turn a sickly shade of white. It was a good thing to see that the brave Reed Fontana was scared and disturbed.

‘’So what’s it going to be? Do you want to listen to the rules of my game or do you want to end this here and now? Your choice but i suggest you pick your cards wisely.’’ Lucina said.

Now, she had successfully left him with no option, another of her father’s lessons she had learnt while growing up. Leave your enemies with no option.

‘’I hate you.’’ Reed said quietly.

Luciana couldn’t deny the fact that his words pierced her heart. For someone she actually liked, it was painful to hear those words from him but Luciana being the tough woman she was didn’t allow that to affect her. She hardly showed any emotions on her face and she knew that if she did that, she would appear weak so she left her face as neutral as possible.

‘’Well that’s what you feel about me so it's your choice.’’ Luciana shrugged, downing the rest of her drink.

‘’The game?’’

‘’Oh yes, back to that. I know you want me dead, in fact it's been your lifelong dream to put a bullet through my head and i hope you know that wouldn’t be possible because let’s just say i’m very well connected and secondly i’m fast, faster than you.’’ Luciana said.

There was a confused expression on Reed’s face as he tried to understand what Luciana was really talking about. Her words were as confusing to him as ever before with little or no sense in it.

‘’And…’’ Reed said.

‘’Oh for god's sake, you’re even dumber than I thought you were. In essence, what i’m trying to say is that it would be practically impossible for you to kill me and so that’s why i brought the idea of the game which we are going to play.’’ Luciana said.

‘’Tell me more.’’ Reed said.

He couldn’t deny the fact that he was feeling anxious about what she intended to say. He had read a little about her and asked some questions and he could boldly say that Luciana Andreas was no match for him. She had killed a lot of people, evil people though and she did it with a smile on her face.

Reed knew that the only reason she hadn’t killed him yet was due to the fact that she wanted to keep him for as long as possible to taunt him and it was working perfectly. Luciana was unlike any woman he had ever dealt with and it was up to him to thread carefully.

‘’Asides the whole killing stuff, i know you want me.’’ Luciana said, staring deep into his eyes.’’

‘’In what sense?’’ Reed whispered.

He knew exactly what she was saying but he wanted to hear it from her. Apparently, his emotions weren’t hard to read. Luciana had found him out and he had to think of a fast way to deny whatever was coming at him.

‘’Oh please stop it. I’ve seen the way you look at me, I've seen the way you practically want to talk to me at every chance you get. So Reed, my game to you now is not to catch feelings for me as i try to kill you.’’ Luciana said, finally.

That was basically impossible and Reed knew she knew it. She had used that against him, knowing fully well that he would fail woefully. Luciana was a smart woman and in the few minutes he had been talking to her, he had seen that first hand. She wasn’t someone who he could mess with anyhow he liked and with this knowledge in mind, he had to thread carefully.

‘’Accepted.’’ he said, finally.

If Luciana was surprised about this, she hid it well. She could never have imagined if to accept so easily when his feelings for her were as clear as the daytime.

‘’Very well, let the game begin.’’ Luciana smirked.

They stayed in comfortable silence for a long while as each receded to their own thoughts. Unknown to Reed, Luciana was going to use every means available to tempt him into falling for her. She was a beautiful woman, that much she knew and it was up to her to use every necessary means available to lure him to her, that was her game plan.

Reed thought that the only thing she would do was to talk about the game plan and leave it at that, not knowing that she was going to use everything at her disposal to tempt him. It was a double edged game and only the wise could become the victor.

Just then, the door burst open to reveal a very furious Alessandro who was storming towards them with anger in his eyes. Apparently, Luciana realized that her men had given him information that Reed was here and in order to avoid confrontation, he came to douse any form of anger and fight that might arise.

‘’What is going on here?’’ Alessandro asked, staring at Reed with a dead look in his eyes.

Luciana realized that this was the first time he and Reed would be meeting and the look he gave him was one that would no doubt lead to his death if he was left alone with the big burly man.

‘’Oh nothing. Reed Fontana and i were just having a friendly meeting, nothing more.’’ Luciana smiled.

Alessandro stared at her and then back at Reed. Luciana could swear that Alessandro snarled at him a bit before sighing. Apparently, he realized that it wasn’t worth the whole stress of screaming at him. They could just go.

‘’Are you ready to go home now?’’ Alessandro asked.

‘’Oh yes! I am. My work here is done anyway.’’ Luciana said, jumping to her feet.

She turned to face Reed who was looking at her with a mixture of hate and pride. That had been Luciana’s plan to confuse him with her many behaviors and now, she could see that it was working. Luciana walked closer to him, leaning in so that her face was just a few inches to him. If she leaned any further, she would be kissing him.

‘’Diabla.’’ Alessandro murmured.

He had no idea what she was about to do but whatever it was, it couldn’t be good. He wasn’t ready for another war just yet.

‘’Relax Andro.’’ Luciana smiled.

‘I’ll be outside anyway.’’ he sighed before walking away.

‘’What the hell are you doing?!’’ Reed whispered.

‘’Leaving you with a message and that is to never forget me. I will see you soon, sooner than you even expected.’’ Luciana smiled.

Her warm breath on his cheek left him speechless. He couldn’t even form proper words to tell her to stop.

‘’Don’t think you can escape any of this Reed Fontana and just know that i will always find you no matter how far you run or where you run to.’’ Luciana said.

She leaned in closer, just enough to graze her lips on his rough stubble. Reed closed his eyes for a minute as he tried to control himself from grabbing her and kissing her senseless. This game she introduced to him was nothing short of difficult and challenging and he wasn’t sure if he could continue with it.

‘’See you around lover boy.’’ Luciana laughed before walking away.

She made sure she swung her hips to the low music playing in the background. Luciana had no doubt that he was staring at her which would just add to the very plan she was currently carrying out.

Luciana got to the car soon, grabbing a bottle of water that sat beside her. Alessandro who was beside her sighed as the driver eased the car onto the highway.

‘’What was that all about?’’ Alessandro asked.

‘’Don’t worry Andro, you’ll soon see.’’ Luciana simply said.
