‘’How dare her! What Nonsense?’’ Pablo screamed.
Reed and the few remaining survivors of the attack stood at attention in front of their commander. To say he was angry would be an understatement, he was downright livid. He hadn’t anticipated any of this at all and hearing it from his boys had him shaking with anger. How on earth could his best men be defeated by a rival group and what’s worse, they had lost some of their best men.
‘’Who is she? I want to know.’’ Pablo seethed.
‘’Father, we really don’t know who she is.’’ Reed said, bowing his head slightly.
He was ashamed of himself for not bringing in the money they had planned to steal but he was more ashamed of the fact that it was a mere woman who had defeated him. Reed knew that if they had gone through with that attack, they wouldn’t have stood a chance with her. They were far outnumbered and he had a feeling that she wouldn’t give up so easily.
‘’Well, i’m waiting. I need a name.’’ Pablo screamed.
‘’Father please, your health.’’ Reed said.
His father’s failing health was another source for concern. The doctors had told them times without number that his health wasn’t as it used to be before and it could get worse by stressing himself too much but still, his father would never listen to the voice of reason.
‘’f**k my health! I do not care.’’ Pablo seethed.
‘’She called herself Diabla.’’ one of the men said.
Pablo stayed silent for a while as he thought about the name they had given him. Deep down, he had a feeling that he had heard that name spoken before but he couldn’t quite remember where from. It wasn’t a common name and it looked more like a title than an actual name.
‘’Did you see her face?’’ Pablo asked.
‘’That’s the funniest thing father, i didn’t see her face. She was wearing a mask all through. The only face i saw was that of her men.’’ Reed said.
‘’What nonsense is this? How can a common woman defeat you all. Its a shame.’’ Pablo spat.
Reed lowered down his head in shame. This wasn’t what he was expecting at all and it left him sad and angry. Deep down, he desperately wished he knew where this woman was so he could give her a piece of his mind and also kill her once and for all.
‘’We’re sorry father.’’ Reed said, his head still down.
‘’Sorry for yourself. I give you all a month to fish out who this woman is and bring me her head. Failure to do this would have you loosing being the heir.’’ Pablo threatened.
Reed wasn’t expecting this and hearing it from his father who he loved so much made his heart shatter into tiny fragments. This was too much for him to bear but he knew he dared not leave his father’s presence without him ordering them to leave. Even though his father was very caring, he was still very strict.
He had seen firsthand how his father dealt with his enemies a whole lot. Most times that he had seen him torturing his captives, it had been a very bloody affair. Sometimes, he couldn’t quite understand how his father was able to stomach something like that. His torture methods were very heartless to say the least.
‘’Very well Father, we will do as you say.’’ Reed said, bowing his head.
‘’Leave.’’ Pablo said.
Reed and his men didn’t waste anymore time to leave his presence. It showed even without words being said that Pablo was very angry with them. As Reed walked towards his room, his thoughts were on the strange woman who had proven to him that she couldn’t be subdued.
He was envious of her because she was able to stand her ground even in the face of a challenge. Not many women could do that and he actually envied her for that, it also proved to him that she wasn’t intimidated by him or his men.
Thinking about her now left Reed yearning to find out more about her. He badly wanted to know who she was and where she was. He had never seen a woman who fascinated him as much as this woman did.
‘’Who are you?’’ Reed mummured.
He got to his room soon, shutting the door behind him. He made his way towards the bathroom since he was badly in need of a shower. He had done a bad job by not stealing what they were supposed to do and what’s more, his father was very angry with him.
Reed was done soon as he made his way back to his room. Just then, his phone gave a small beep which indiacted that he had a call. Glancing at the caller ID, he discovered that it was his friend calling.
‘’Hey.’’ Reed said.
Dennis was Reed’s long time friend. In fact, he had been with him for as long as he could remember. They were highschool friends and they had both fought through all the storms that school brought. Dennis had his back for as long as he could remember and he was quite glad that he had someone in his corner who really cared about him.
‘’You don’t sound so good.’’ Dennis said.
If there was something Reed knew about Dennis, it was that he was also very sensitive. He had been like this for as lomg as he could remember. He knew different emotions about him which left him very surprised too.
Reed wasn’t so certain if he should tell Dennis what had happened. For as long as he could remember, they usually shared things together. There was really nothing they kept a secret from each other and not telling him would betray the trust they had for each other.
‘’I know. There’s something i need to tell you.’’ Reed began.
‘’Okay man, let’s hear it.’’ Dennis said.
Reed told him everything that had happened that day and from the way Dennis remained silent, Reed knew he was listening to him attentively. He was grateful for this because it only meant that he was concerned about the whole thing.
‘’So that’s it.’’ Reed said.
Dennis remained silent for a while as his mind mulled over what Reed had said. What he said was somewhat strange because as far as he was concerned Reed had never told him something like this before.
‘’And you really don’t know who this lady is?’’ Dennis asked.
‘’No, i have no idea who she is. In fact, she just popped in while the operation was going on. To be honest Dennis, i fear her a bit.’’ Reed said.
He could never say this to another person and the only reason he said this to Dennis was due to the fact that they were close friends. If it wasn’t for that, Reed would never have told Dennis all about it.
They were very close and Reed knew that he’d be doing a bad thing if he didn’t tell him. He also knew that if Dennis was in his shoes, he would have told him everything that was going on with him.
‘’You? Fear a woman? Reed when did you begin fearing a woman?’’ Dennis laughed.
Reed knew it was laughable and if his father got to know about what he said, he would strip him of the heir title faster than he could say his name.
‘’You actually need to see her man, she’s scary.’’ Reed laughed.
‘’Forgive me for laughing but it's all so funny. Women tremble at your sight and not the other way around.’’ Dennis said.
‘’You’ll know what I'm saying when you see her man. She has this aura around her that’s scary and violent to say the least. I have a feeling that she controls a very large cartel, one that’s very powerful too. I just have to find it.’’ Reed said.
He had been having that thought for a while now but he could be wrong. He just needed to find more information about this mystery woman so he could put an end to all his doubts and worries.
‘’Or what if you are just worried about nothing. What if this woman is nothing but a thief and a sly. You know, people who steal just know how to brag and nothing more.’’ Dennis said.
Reed thought about all of this for a moment but still he wasn’t quite convinced that she was merely a thief. There was something about her that just screamed to him that she wasn’t a woman to be messed with. He had met many women in his life and he could confidently say that he knew about their characters but this woman he met today fascinated him like no woman had ever done before.
‘’You’re thinking about her.’’ Dennis said.
It wasn’t a question so Reed didn’t bother to reply. He knew Dennis had figured it out and there would be no need to deny or confirm it so Reed just left the statement hanging.
‘’I need to know more about her.’’ Reed said.
‘’Don’t let her get to your head man, i see she’s messing with your head.’’ Dennis chuckled.
‘’Laugh all you want man but i bet you, you’ll take back your words as soon as you see her.’’ Reed said.
‘’Well, until then i really can’t say.’’ Dennis said.
‘’You at the club?’’ Reed asked.
He was hearing some music in the background and he knew that Dennis might actually be in his club. He controlled the biggest club in downtown LA.
‘’Yeah but I'll be leaving soon,’’ he said.
‘’Alright man. I need to go now, sleep calls.’’ Reed chuckled.
‘’No biggie. See you around.’’ Dennis said before cutting the call.
Reed sighed, placing his phone on the center table. He sighed yet again, something he seemed to be doing so much in the past few days. As his eyes closed to sleep, the last image on his mind was of the strange woman.
