Chapter 15

‘’Get down.’’ Kyle shouted. Luciana shot down just as the shards of broken glasses reigned down on them. Luciana had no doubt that it was the Fontana’s who had come to attack. It was strange that they came late but Luciana knew that when it came to them, there was nothing surprising about them. What she couldn’t quite understand was why they had chosen to come by this time. Luciana knew that the Fontana’s and if there was one thing she knew them for, it was their ability to keep to time. Their nine a.m was nine a.m and so, Luciana had no idea why they decided to come by this time. It was odd to say the least and now that they were here, she knew she had to fight back. It wasn’t in her blood to stand back when a fight presented itself and if the Fontana’s thought for one minute that she would run away, they were joking. ‘’I’m going out!’’ Luciana shouted. She crawled out of the car quickly, taking cover behind the line of cars that were parked at the car park of the bank. Luciana peeked behind a car and discovered that the Fontana’s were in fact at the entrance of the bank. From what she could see, Luciana discovered that they were led by four men. Judging from the way they acted and their mannerism, Luciana knew that these were in fact the men that would lead the others into the bank. Luciana radioed her men through her walkie talkie, ordering them to take position at strategic places around the compound. She needed them around because she had a feeling that they would be going in very soon. They needed to stop them and failure to do that could be a colossal loss to the state and the country at large. ‘’Prepare to move in five.’’ Luciana barked. Kyle, who had crawled out of the car, was now crouching beside her. There was a light sheen on his forehead and Luciana knew it had to be sweet. She couldn’t blame him though because anyone that faced the Fontana’s was bound to feel that way. It was a tough case no matter how you looked at it and the success of the operation largely depended on how smart and fast they were. One thing Luciana knew was that they wouldn’t give up until they stopped this operation. Failure to do that would be very bad and she had no doubt that her father would be highly disappointed in her. ‘’We move in four.’’ Luciana said. Luciana glanced at her watch, her brows creasing in an agitation. She just wanted to get this over with as fast as possible with little to no damage. Casualties to her men was something she wouldn’t tolerate. Despite the kind of job they did, Luciana loved all of them like they were her own brothers. ‘’Three.’’ Luciana called. She knew they heard her through her walkie talkie and all hopes were on the success of the operation. They had to follow Luciana’s orders if they wanted to come out of this alive. Luciana adjusted her mask, putting it back in place as she watched the first of the men walk into the bank. ‘’Two.’’ Luciana breathed out. She had timed herself to the moment when all of the men would be inside already. Three of them had already gone into the building and the last person standing was looking around, no doubt trying to find out if there were any threats around. Satisfied by this, the man walked in, gun in hand. ‘’One!’’ Luciana said. Like ants, clinging on to the last piece of sugar, Luciana and her men spread out like flies. Four of her men, two on each side stood at the corners of the bank as they looked at the entrance. They were waiting for her to give them the go ahead before they commenced the operation in earnest. ‘’By the count of my fingers.’’ Luciana said, raising up her finger. She lifted up a finger which was closely followed by another finger. When it got to the third finger, the men stormed into the bank, firing at the men in anger. Luciana came in at last and she smiled when she saw that her men were actually in control of the whole situation. She knew she could count on them and she was quite glad that they didn’t let her down. ‘’Cease fire.’’ Luciana ordered. The men stood down, taking strategic positions all around her as a human shield in case some of the men who were still alive were trying to try something funny. They couldn’t put it past the Fontana’s not to try anything rash. They were thieves as well as liars and no one could take their words seriously. The smell of gunfire filled the whole bank and Luciana welcomed in with open hands. That was what she loved. It was also a smell of victory because she knew that most of the men were either dead or fatally injured. ‘’Who are you?!’’ a loud voice said. Luciana turned around to look at the person who had spoken and discovered that it was tall broad shouldered. Luciana had no idea where he had come from but she wasn’t concerned about any of that at the moment. What she was concerned about now was on how to stop him because she very well knew he belonged to the Fontana’s. ‘’I should be asking you that. Who the f**k are you?’’ Luciana barked. As she stared at the man, only then did she realize that he was the last man who had walked into the bank. Luciana couldn't place it but there was something strangely familiar about him, something she couldn’t quite place her hand on. It was odd to say the least because she knew quite well that she hadn’t seen this man before and seeing him now was kind of strange. ‘’Do you have any idea what you’ve just done?’’ the man asked. Luciana could see that the man was angry now but at that moment, she just didn’t care. After all, angering people was what she knew how to do best. The man could as well go die for all she cared. ‘’Stopping a bank robbery, that’s what i’m doing.’’ Luciana said. She laughed, a deep heartless laughter that sent chills down everyone’s back. The bank attendants, some of which were dead laid on the ground, a shivering mess. In all the years the bank had been established, this was the first time something like this was happening. Luciana’s men who knew what that laughter was were a bit scared because whatever would result from it would be very bloody. The resultant effect could never be good and this time around, they knew she would go full force on the man who actually thought he stood a chance in talking to her anyhow he liked. ‘’Diabla’s going to have your head.’’ Kyle said. He was standing very close to her with a smug smile on his face. Luciana grind through her mask but she knew the man couldn’t actually see her face which added to the mystery. ‘’Who are you?’’ the man repeated. ‘’Well, if you really want to know who i am, its best you listen attentively boy.’’ Luciana said. If there was one thing most men hated, it was someone calling them ‘’boy’’. They liked to assert their dominance over everyone and this showed in the way they acted and spoke. ‘’How dare you!’’ the man barked, c*****g his gun. Luciana’s men did the same and soon, there was a staring match. One thing she knew was that her men would never back down even when faced with the most challenging situation. It was just not in them to do that. It was a die or fight situation and she loved them for that. ‘’You really can’t do that, you see, because my men wouldn’t hesitate to rip your head from your body. So choose what you want to go for. My story or… your death.’’ Luciana said. ‘’Master Reed, we need to go. Most of our men are down sire, it's best we go back to regroup.’’ one of his men said. There, Luciana had her answer. The man standing in front of her was indeed her greatest enemy, a man she badly wanted to kill. This was Fontana's heir and if she had her way, she knew she would kill him without a doubt. But Luciana knew she couldn’t do that, at least not for now. She needed to go with the original plan, failure to do that could be very disastrous. ‘’So you are the Reed.’’ she murmured. Luciana didn’t know what to think about the whole thing. This was the man she planned to kill but standing before her was the most beautiful man she had ever seen. His broad shoulders and his sculpted face was a beauty to behold. This was the first time in her entire life she had seen a man as handsome as this. Reed Fontana was all shades of handsome and Luciana once again didn’t know what to do about that. ‘’So what’s the going to be?’’ Luciana asked. She would never allow her emotions to get a hold of her. This was the enemy, the man who had caused so much pain for her and her family and having any thoughts about him like that was bound to lead her to destruction. Reed glanced at the men who stood around her and he had a feeling that the woman who he was seeing now wasn’t just any other woman who he could mess with. Even from her mannerism and the way she spoke, he had a feeling that she was a very important person and he would be a fool to engage in a gun battle, knowing fully well that she was well protected. ‘’For the last time, who the heck are you?’’ Reed asked. Luciana laughed, walking closer to the man. She knew he couldn’t see her face as the only thing he could see was her eyes. Luciana stood very close to him and if she had leaned in a bit further, they could have been kissing. ‘’People know me as Diabla.’’ Luciana said, finally. Reed felt a chill run down his back upon hearing that name. He had no idea why that name was familiar. Within the twinkle of an eye, Luciana left. Just before she went out of his sight, she winked at him and Reed had a feeling that that was a promise of more things to come.
