Why does he have to go and say sweet things like that? It just makes this whole situation harder. I’m not sure how much longer I can resist the magnetism between us. I feel my face getting hot as all of the blood rushes to my cheeks. I look at the ground and pray that the shadows of the cave are enough to hide my reaction. I cough a little to try to clear my throat of the giant, nervous lump that’s formed inside. “Um… thank you…” I say awkwardly. "I'm glad I met you too." We stand there in the cave in strained silence for a few moments, neither of us knowing what to say. We've both been through so much that being vulnerable feels... unnatural.
