Blurb

In a quiet village a shifter named Roan watches her world turn to ash when royal dragon shifters raze her home, leaving her the sole survivor. Haunted by loss and fueled by vengeance, Roan embarks on a perilous journey to overthrow the cruel ruler who ordered the attack.

With her father’s blade and a map etched in memory, she navigates treacherous lands, gathering fragments of a forgotten rebellion. Along the way, she encounters Kai, a mercenary fox shifter with a sharp wit and a roguish smile. Kai seems to be hiding something behind her easy nature. Though their alliance begins in mistrust, shared scars and a shared mission.

Together, they ignite a spark of resistance that could topple a kingdom. But as war looms and betrayal stalks every shadow, Roan must decide how far she's willing to go for justice, and whether love can bloom in the ashes of revenge.

The Burning Village
The smell in the air is what tore Roan from her hunting. The smell of wood, flesh, and smoke. Her head turned sharply back the way she had come. A scream ripping itself from her throat as she sees flames licking the afternoon sky. “NO!” Before she could stop herself she shifted into her other half . She could feel her skin burning as it turned to fur. Her paws on the ground before it sunk in she had completed the change. Before she thought more about it Roan dug her claws into the soil and ran.The world seemed to whizz by as she made her way back to her little village. Her breathing got sharper and more labored as she used every last stride to push herself faster. But it was too late and her claws hit the well worn gravel road of where she called home. Roan swung her head around as she slowed to a trot to take a look around at the burning and ashes before her. The deep claw marks in the building told a story. The bloodied bodies and smell of burnt flesh complete the picture. The royal dragon shifter had come to the village. They must have been here to collect taxes. Her amber eyes cast to the nearest non charred body. She knew what she would see, a hollow and gaunt face, a too small waist and pale skin that looked grey and ghoulish. A small gaunt figure who barely could stand. Her people barely made enough to feed themselves. Tears of anger came to her eyes as she growled fur stating to stand on end. How the hell did the royals expect them to keep paying?! Toan shook her head angrily with a bitter realization that they probably didn't and did not even care they lost a whole village. With a last sorrowful gaze at the bodies on the street she makes her way slowly back home. The sound of her claws clicking against the stone and the sound of the blaze roaring were the only things to be heard. When she finally made it to her house there wasn’t much left of it but burnt stone and the smell of charred flesh. A feeling of sickness rose in her throat and she gagged a bit at the smell. It took a few minutes to fight the bile in her throat, her whole body shaking as she fought the urge. Roan panted a few times to gain her senses back before she walked through the remains of her home. Her heart heavy as she took in the scene. They really did their best to make sure not a single person had survived hadn’t they? With all the smell of burning flesh and death she doubted a single person survived the onslaught. The coukd feel her throat tightened as she thought off all the lives lost the children not spared even a minute worth of thought as the Dragons rained fire and death down.
