Episode 7: Heretofore

Expecting that he was thinking the same thing, I didn’t match his speed and just followed behind him. Instead of helping, he had another idea on his mind. It was already too late when I realized what he was about to do. A bruise appeared on Chesmon’s face just seconds after Kyle’s fist, flew there. “K-Kyle!!” I hurriedly catch up not waiting for a fight to start. The new beta furiously grabs the collar of our alpha-in-training, Chesmon. “What are you doing, you bastard?!” I grabbed his arm to make him let go, but his grip was much stronger and I could not remove it. When his shoulder was raised, I knew he was going to do it again. “Kyle! Stop!" I shouted as he landed yet another punch to Alpha Chesmon. I jumped to cling onto his arm. I tried to hold him down with my whole body this time. Though I can count on my experience as a soldier, there was no way I could attack and push the new beta shamelessly on the ground. He’ll be discredited. But if I let Kyle do what he wants, who knows what the punishment will be? He might even get an early dismissal. That’s why the only thing I could do right now was stop and convince him then hold on for dear life. Chesmon on the other hand wiped the blood near his busted lip. Unlike Kyle, he was trying to calm his wolf who tried to take control of his body as much as he could. Hesitating to move to his side, Melissa watched from the sidelines. Her face was a mess. An unfamiliar woman ran next to Chesmon, trying to relax him with her touch, and then she looked at Kyle who was still boiling in anger. “What are you doing?! Is this how a beta should behave in this pack??" Nobody knows who the woman was and the reason she was defending Chesmon. But they were certain, that she wasn’t here when the whole uproar began. Chesmon moved her at his back before saying something to her. “It's okay. We just had a misunderstanding.” He said softly. “What do you mean it’s okay? You’re hurt!” “It’s fine. It’ll heal.” When we saw Chesmon smile a little to appease the worried brunette, we three had the same suspicion. “You are…” My curiosity gets ahead of me and wanted to confirm. “I’m your alpha’s mate.” My hold increased just in time when I felt Kyle trying to attack Chesmon again. “You-You—I believed you wouldn’t do that of all people. You told me you can't do that to Melissa—that you won't do that to her!" Kyle stared down at the only confused person there. “You’re choosing her, is that it? It didn’t even take you a day to throw it all away!” He roared, hoping the outsider would get flustered by his actions, but the woman wasn’t in the least bothered. Chesmon however didn’t like how he was acting towards his mate. “I can accept your disrespect towards me, beta, but I won’t let you act that way towards your future Luna.” He warned. “And now she’s my Luna?” “Kyle!” “Beta!” I was earnestly praying this would end right away. But looking at the furious man beside me, and the starting to be pissed-off Alpha, this is not gonna happen any time soon. I can’t even get close to Melissa right now to console her. “I know my situation very well, Beta. I've already made my choice. This wasn't easy for me too." “No, don't give me that excuse. You were a different person before this. You were ready to throw everything away just to be with Mel. You were so sure, even let me believe that you—you!” “Beta, I’m not gonna do this if I didn’t realize it’ll be impossible in the end. You know me, I decided this after weighing things." “Don’t give that garbage, Ches!” Kyle shouted. “Please, Kyle! Don't make this harder. We can talk to him later, just not this way please!" I begged hoping he wouldn't jeopardize any more of this important day. He turned to me and I saw his fuming eyes settling down to a series of emotions before calming down. The rejected gamma opens her mouth slowly to talk. “B-Beta. It’s fine. It was supposed to be like this. Our relationship wasn’t supposed to happen.” Melissa’s voice quivered and it remained that way when she talked to her now past lover. “Che, I—No, Alpha Chesmon. Please forgive the beta for the disrespect. I-I will not get involved with you from now on so please forget all of this..." She lowered her head. It was visible on her cheek that her tears were still falling. “Please excuse me.” She turned her back to everyone and left to get away from the place. “Are you alright?” “Yeah.” He looked at his mate. Seeing she still held concern for a man like him, who had done an unforgivable thing. He feels less of a fiend. “Sandy…you might want to ask what was going on—“ “It’s okay, Alpha Chesmon. You don’t have to explain right now. Let’s go and treat you first, we can talk after that.” She held his hand and smiled, then grabbed his arm gently towards the pack house. Looking at the two made me realize that there was nothing that could go between what’s meant to be. It was an undeniable fact in the past, now and in the unclear future. I shifted my sight from them back to the boy whom I was still holding on to dear life. I felt down all of a sudden. It would’ve been good if I could keep him hanging to me like this and never let go. It would’ve been good if we were mates.
