Episode 6: Hitherto

Jolting from the sudden grip on my waist, I can’t help but fall a little backwards. “You’re here.” Hugging me from behind. “Like I’d missed this more than anything.” My face became red when he placed his chin over my shoulder. His face was so close that I completely forgot the timing to breathe. “But you’re late.” “I-I am but—!” I shivered at the proximity between us. Without warning, the air that came from his mouth tickled the sensitive area of my neck. Swallowing the abrupt, tingly feeling, I turned to face him. He was still burying my neck with his chin. “But?” “I-I was there. I was at the passing of rights, so I’m not completely late.” Though the orbs in my eyes were a bit shaky. I stayed focused, not removing eye contact to show that I was telling the truth. I am also not giving him any more access to the part I’m vulnerable to any longer. When I was about to remove my body from him, his cheeky smirk appeared, making it difficult for me not to waiver and give in. “Hm…Did you?” Pulling me tighter. “Don’t tell me you don’t believe me?” I narrowed my eyes at him. I wiggled in his arms trying to escape, but unlike before when it was easy to overpower him, It was hopeless now. Recently, he always gets to do what he wants. Even though I’m on the losing side, it was making me happy. “Okay, I know I am always late at almost everything but If I said I’ll be there then I’ll be there. I always keep my promises, you know that.” “I don’t know. Late is always your favourite word.” “At least it’s not my only favourite—“ His expression changed and it was the kind he always makes when he’s interested in something. He will just keep bothering until he gets to say or do what he wants. “So…what’s your other favourite?” “W-Well there’s pasta, summer, weddings—“ “Not that. Person.” “My sister, your mother—“ “Nichole..."He calls my name to interrupt me. His gaze holds me in captivity while visibly persuading me to say something that can finally feed his waiting ego. I know what he wanted to hear from me and it was just fun to see his reactions when I kept pretending. “Let go of me first.” I’ll overheat if I don’t get out of this position first. He doesn’t know how much he affects me now. “No, say it first.” “Kyle…” “I think my hands are getting used to this. They don’t want to let go. They might stay here forever—“ He dramatically said. “Okay, okay, It’s you alright. Now release me.” “Me what?” Trying to make me repeat them but more clearly. “You’re…m-my” I moved my head down because of the embarrassment, while the rascal of a beta leaned in his ear quite in a provocative way. My patience finally ran out, and I turned around while I was still in his arms. I was planning to hit his chest but before my limb could land on his upper torso, a commotion got our attention. Kyle’s hold got loose when we found out the people behind the ruckus. Melissa and Chesmon were in a heated conversation. The former was in a terrible state after getting confronted by Chesmon. She has been in a relationship with him for some time now. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Mel.” “Ch-Ches, you promised me." Her eyes were red from the crying. “You promised me that we would work this out no matter what. This wasn’t what you told me. This was not supposed to be our p-plan..!” She stuttered, tightening her hold on his arm. Melissa was worried that the contact of their skin was not enough to keep him at her side anymore. “Mel, I’m sorry...I don’t have any excuses. I was wrong, I can’t fight this.” “What do you mean? This was just the start. We were supposed to fight this together. You said we’re going to work this out. You told me that!” “I know and I shouldn’t have. It was a mistake, I’m sorry.” “Save me the apologies, Ches. I don’t need that, I need you. Please!" She begged. People all around them stopped what they were doing and were still focused on the lovers. “Ches!” She shook him who looked detached and stressed from the whole situation. “Please, Mel, let’s just end this. If we continue this relationship, I will only hurt you. We would only hurt each other.” “We know that already. You know that it will not be easy but we expected that before we got to this point. We made sure we were ready, Ches.” The tone of her voice was not consistent and her body was visibly shaking. She was not strong enough to stand the constant rejection, the man was making on her. “I already waivered, Mel. If we wait this out, the result will still be the same. It will only get worse for us, trust me.” He sighed. “No, you’re wrong. The last thing you shouldn't ask from me is trust. How would I know if believing in you is the right thing when you swore to me before, then betray me now—!” She cried. “S-So please, stop doing this. Y-You’re making a mistake! Chesmon!” “Melissa, if you don’t trust me now, then trust me as someone you grew up with…As your friend, you know I won’t say things I don’t mean. Let’s not make this harder, please.” Her fingers that were holding him were plucked one by one by Chesmon. “Friend…” She scoffed, and then her features grieved. “….How? Why? We were still together just moments ago. We were so determined to take on everything. So how come you easily—you easily—” Her enervated knees gradually fell and she hid her tear-stricken face with her slender hands. Not getting chosen by Chesmon was a bad dream she wanted to wake up to. The sound of her wailing made everyone silent and uncomfortable. They were still rooted on their feet as they continued to observe the scene unfold again. Chesmon bends down and supports Melissa. She staggered to stand but she gave her remaining energy to her legs. “Mel, please. Let’s break up.” His voice didn’t reach her. It doesn’t mean that she wasn’t hearing him but she already knew he would say those words. Melissa's hands wobble and lethargically rest on her sides. Her face had given up hope and her eyes distant. “That guy…” Kyle clenched his jaw as he glared furiously towards their way. Like him, I was also beyond mad by what was happening. The only thing that was running through my mind right now was to get Melissa out of there fast. When my feet just started to move—Kyle, on the other hand—was already running their way.
