Alpha's heir

Diane smiled as Amber walked into her coffee house, she turned to Lucy who was wiping down the counter and smiled at her. "Would you please bring us two hot chocolates? We'll be over there." She pointed to the corner booth and when Lucy nodded she walked around the counter to meet Amber. "I was hoping I'd see you before you left." "I would never leave without my hot chocolate fix."Amber laughed. "And I'm only leaving tomorrow, Jane and Mya have some last-minute things to sort out. But I was hoping I could talk to you and ask you and Alice for a favor?' "Anytime, let's go sit, Lucy has our order." "I could never complain about the service here." She followed a grinning Diane. "Is Alice around?" "No, she had something to sort out with Michelle. I'm not sure what, she just said it was important." "Okay." Amber drew the word out. What could Alice have to discuss with Michelle? "Anyway, there are two things actually, first let me ask you, would you please keep an eye on Sam and Addi? She's the best mom, but the other night she let Addi crawl around the house without a nappy. Because how is she supposed to shift with constricting pants on?" Amber smiled affectionately. "Addi is two months old, I don't even know if she can shift yet." "She's the alpha's daughter, so she probably could," Diane said, she smiled and thanked Lucy for the hot chocolates. "But of course we will, every minute we get to spend with Addi is precious. Sam might throw us out though." "No, she will never admit it, but she gets nervous being alone with Addi, she's scared she crushes her or something." Amber laughed. "She's so amazing." "I'm glad you two sorted your things out, you are the best thing that ever happened to her. Even the pack agrees. Luna." "That still amazes me, I never thought they'd accept me." "You gave us an heir, that means the wolf gods accepted you, who are we to argue with gods?" Diane laughed at Amber's expression. "You have been with us for so long, but there is still so much you don't even know about us." She lifted her cup and looked over the rim at Amber. "What was the other thing?" "That's true and the reason I'm actually here. Addi. How did we, Sam and I, conceive?" She dipped her head, not wanting Diane to see she was embarrassed.  "Ah, Sam told me once you wanted to talk to me about that before you started a family, but life had other plans." Diane took a deep breath and sat back against the booth seat. "An alpha always needs at least one child, the child always takes over from the alpha. When a long time ago, not even our pack, a very isolated pack's alpha turned out to be a lesbian, it became clear that she would not be able to have children, the pack wanted her to step down, she was challenged by every straggler that heard about her predicament. She was a good alpha, and she loved her pack, but she loved her mate more. So she went to the fae, she trusted them more than the witches. She asked them for help, they sent her to their fertility fae who took one look at her and asked her, who told her she couldn't have kids with her mate?  She said she was a woman and so was her mate. To which the fae laughed and told her what does that matter, you are an alpha, and an alpha always has an heir. To be honest Amber, I have no clue how it happens. The physical aspect of it, but over the years, we've heard of more than one story, where other wolves, not alphas, had children, it doesn't happen often, but it does." "And men?"  "Well they are the exception of course, but they are allowed one female to mate with, she carries the heir and when the child is born, she and the child become a part of the alpha's family. The woman is allowed to find her own mate, but she is always seen as the heir's mother. It's considered an honor." "I'm glad she doesn't need a man for that, I would never be okay with her or me, sleeping with someone else," Amber admitted. She ducked her head. "Not even to conceive an heir." "Well then be glad you don't. It can't be easy for the men either."  "Did you and Alice ever consider having kids?' "Together? Yes, we spoke about it, but I have Sam and Matt, and they are my life. Matt has become such a good man over the past months. And Alice had you and Taylor." She sighed. "We have a great life together, we have our kids, and now a grandchild." She laid a hand over Amber's. "We are just happy to be a part of this new journey that you and Sam offer us. And we will fight with you to keep this pack and family safe." "Thank you, Diane." She linked their fingers and squeezed Diane's hand. "I hate leaving now, but we need more agents, with this pack growing and with the threat Ava poses, we need to be stronger." "I know, just be careful who you trust. And listen to Mya and Jane, their instincts are good." "Yes, when it comes to the job. And I will."  "Can I ask you something now?" Diane laughed.  "Of course you can." "Taylor is like my own now too, in more ways than one. Is she going to get hurt by those two?" She held up a hand before Amber could answer. "I know Mya is a close friend, but I want an honest answer." "No, I don't think so. Uh Sam and I, we, you know, anyway, and when we were done Sam was looking out the window laughing, I walked over and Mya and Jane were on top of each other, the s****l tension was palpable even up in my office, if Taylor hadn't interrupted them, they'd have had s*x right there." She drank the last of her hot chocolate. "This trip will have them close together, and I'm hoping by the time we get back, they will have sorted their issues and can be together, with Taylor. Because they do love her, both of them do, that's no secret." "Okay, that's good enough for me then. I'll tell Alice to stop worrying."  "Thank you for the talk and hot chocolate, it's always a pleasure being with you like this." "My door is always open, Amber." Diane looked over at Lucy, caught her watching them. "Can I ask you one more thing?" "Sure?"  "Where is Jake? Is he alive?" Amber's expression closed off. And Diane knew she would not get a straight answer.  "You have to ask Sam, Diane. I can't answer that. Not because I don't want to, but because I don't know. Michelle said she snapped his neck, but Sam won't let me go down there, if he's dead he deserves a wolf's burial, no matter what he did." "She needs closure too, he was or is her brother." "I'll speak to Sam, see what I can do." "Thank you, Amber." Amber stood when Diane did. "Let me know, so I can give her some peace." "I will." She hugged Dianne and laughed. "Good luck with Sam." "I can handle my daughter, she's not too old to be spanked." Diane laughed, Amber was as red as a tomato as she left the coffee shop.
